A cabe?a voraz
Mindlin, Betty;
Estudos Avan?ados , 1996, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-40141996000200015
Abstract: the article focuses an indian myth about a flying and voracious head, that was told to the author by several indian tribes from the amazon, such as the tupari, the macurap, the jabuti, the aruá, the sateré-mawé. each version has a different plot, but the intriguing theme is always the same: the mutilation of the body, a head that is transformed or attaches itself to another being. the essay delves into the meaning of this myth, to which claude lévi-strauss dedicated a good portion of his two important books, l'origine des manières de table and la potière jalouse, and that was used by mário de andrade in his classic book about brazilian hero, macunaína, one of the few works of fiction to have been inspired by mythicalindian themes and characters. reporting this myth is just a small part of a large project of documentation of myths and traditions of brazilian indians that author has been working on for several years. the aim of this text is to show the rich imagination of brazilian indians, and to insist on the need to document contemporary cultures that are still widely unknown. brazilian art and fiction could enlarge their universe by exploring and trying to understant the heritage left to us by over two hundred different indian tribes. it is also important fot the indians to reaffirm their ethnic identity, and enhance the worth their participation in brazilian society, by writing, telling and spreading these myths, and by using them in their schools.

A study of governance practices in corporate foundations
Mindlin, Sérgio Ephim;
Revista de Administra??o (S?o Paulo) , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0080-21072012000300010
Abstract: implementation of social investments through corporate foundations is growing and, therefore, it is important to study their governance aspects better. governance is conceptualized as a set of control and incentive mechanisms to overcome the so-called agency conflicts, which originate from the separation of property and management in for-profit organizations, a concept also applied to nonprofit institutions. it is argued that corporate foundations have the characteristics both of companies and of civil society organizations, which distinguishes them from both types of organizations. this paper analyses a study in which a set of governance mechanisms, adapted from those identified by a literature review of corporate and nonprofit governance, was selected for study. it is an exploratory descriptive case study, which analyzed data about eight organizations collected through publications and interviews with their ceos. the data analysis indicates that it is appropriate to distinguish the different organization types and to apply the agency theory. research results indicate that the selected governance mechanisms may be adapted and used in corporate foundations. however, they are only partially applied in the observed cases, which suggests the need for further studies that might consolidate these practices in such organizations.
SOMBRA DO PAI THE SHADOW OF THE FATHER

The year 1997 will mark 400 years since the death of Jose de Anchieta - and a good chance that "The Apostle of Brazil" will be canonized. A careful survey of his written work - letters, lyrical and epic poems, a grammar, a catechism and several aulas (religi -ous plays) allows an almost complete reconstruction of the then-reigning Weltanschaung: the Europe of the cinquecento, expansionist in both temporal and spiritual sense, in the wake of the Counter-Reformation. From this angle the role of the Jesuits and the founder of the Society of Jesus, Ignatius of Loyola, takes on very special significance, both as catalist of European trends of thought (mainly in terms of M. Foucault's analogia and convenientia) and as a disseminator of those same trends, this time in extra-European terms, via religious conversion and colonization.

NóBREGA E ANCHIETA: UMA 'LITERATURA EMERGENTE'? Nóbrega and Anchieta: A 'emerging literature'?

An examination of theatrical texts produced by these 16-century Jesuits, from two angles: as part of a mercantile, expansionist project; and as a demonstration of prevailing philosophical bases, in the light of Foucault's concept of similitude. The work tracks referencesto Nóbrega and Anchieta in several histories of Brazilian literature, in an attempt to identify what might be called a Brazilian core in the writings of two Jesuits, in spite of the seemingly European configuration of their texts.
