Toledo invariants of Higgs bundles on elliptic surfaces associated to base orbifolds of Seifert fibered homology 3-spheres
Mike Krebs
Mathematics , 2005,
Abstract: To each connected component in the space of semisimple representations from the orbifold fundamental group of the base orbifold of a Seifert fibered homology 3-sphere into the Lie group U(2,1), we associate a real number called the "orbifold Toledo invariant." For each such orbifold, there exists an elliptic surface over it, called a Dolgachev surface. Using the theory of Higgs bundles on these Dolgachev surfaces, we explicitly compute all values taken on by the orbifold Toledo invariant.

Abstract: Network design must carefully consider how routers and circuits are interconnected to form an overall system with as few single points of failure as possible. Social network analysis can be applied to the design of computer networks. In this paper the centrality measures are used to analyse the efficiency and the resiliency of computer networks.
Bilinguisme, interculturalité et communication politique Bilingualism, Interculturalism and Political Communication
Viola Krebs
In an increasingly interconnected world, where people are more and more mobile, interpersonal communication and the mastering of multiple languages are of growing importance. This might be one reason why, in the past few years, an increasing number of scientific studies on bi- and multilingualism have been published. They show that b

On Matrix Product States for Periodic Boundary Conditions
Klaus Krebs
Physics , 1999, DOI: 10.1088/0305-4470/33/14/102
Abstract: The possibility of a matrix product representation for eigenstates with energy and momentum zero of a general m-state quantum spin Hamiltonian with nearest neighbour interaction and periodic boundary condition is considered. The quadratic algebra used for this representation is generated by 2m operators which fulfil m^2 quadratic relations and is endowed with a trace. It is shown that {\em not} every eigenstate with energy and momentum zero can be written as matrix product state. An explicit counter-example is given. This is in contrast to the case of open boundary conditions where every zero energy eigenstate can be written as a matrix product state using a Fock-like representation of the same quadratic algebra.
Auslander-Reiten theory in functorially finite resolving subcategories
Matthias Krebs
Mathematics , 2015,
Abstract: We analyze Auslander-Reiten quivers of functorially finite resolving subcategories. Chapter 1 gives a short introduction into the basic definitions and theorems of Auslander-Reiten theory in A-mod. We generalize these definitions and theorems in Chapter 2 and prove generalizations of the first and one and a half Brauer-Thrall conjecture for functorially finite resolving subcategories. Moreover, we show that sectional paths in Auslander-Reiten-quivers are invariants of decompositions of morphisms into sums of compositions of irreducible morphisms between indecomposable modules and are strongly connected to irreducible morphisms in subcategories. In Chapter 3 we introduce degrees of irreducible morphisms and use this notion to prove the generalization of the Happel-Preiser-Ringel theorem for functorially finite resolving subcategories. Finally, in Chapter 4, we analyze left stable components of Auslander-Reiten quivers and find out that their left subgraph types are given by Dynkin diagrams if and only if the corresponding subcategory is finite. In the preparation of the proof we discover connected components with certain properties and name them helical components due to their shape. It turns out later that these components are the same as coray tubes. In the final section we discuss under which conditions the length of modules tends to infinity if we knit to the left in a component and give a complete description of all connected components in which this is not the case.
Efficacy of Facebook Fans: Can They Influence Perception of the Brand?  [PDF]

Abstract: Using a qualitative single case study methodology, this research studied the effect that a Facebook page has on friends of the brand. The problem under investigation is the lack of understanding effects social media sites like Facebook has on the perception of the brand by the user. The data collected suggests that the use of Facebook by a SME does help maintain and in some cases increase the perception of the brand in the positive. The analysis of the data additionally shows this effect on brand perception is based on the drivers of a) connectivity, b) change of perception, c) internal value, d) goodwill, and e) the decision process. Interview participants indicate the importance Facebook has as a marketing communication tool. The findings from the research suggest that Facebook use by SMEs is an important component of an integrated approach to marketing communications when considering the perception of the brand. This research also raises important questions as to what significance Facebook use by SMEs has over other traditional marketing communication methods when creating, communicating, and delivering a message of value.
