Universities: Facing Change and Competition

Abstract: The growing importance of international competition is well recognized both in the business and academic environment. This article’s aim is to discusses the issue of how universities must learn to compete, given that national institutional context and everchanging environment facing many and different challenges. This means that, in some ways, the university has a central place and becomes more integrated into state’s economic activities and companies, than they were before. In the knowledge society, the university' mission is to create, develop and transfer knowledge capital in order to obtain valuable asset status in the modern economy. Therefore, universities face continous challenges due to globalization and internationalization of education, learning and research, and must satisfy higher quality demands, ‘measurable’ outcomes, and explicit economic benefits. Facing competition from other knowledge-providers, universities must change their identity from that of state-financed monopolies to self-financed participants in the knowledge - providing markets.

Abstract:

The (seldomly quoted) generalised-Heisenberg uncertainty relations are an effect of the quantum correlation coefficient inequalities. The quantum correlation coefficient determines how much a state can be compacted and on what basis. It is shown that how this can be used to best compress a signal (such as a radio wave, or a 2D laser complex field at a focal plane) while at the same time encrypting the signal.

Abstract: Various code development platforms, such as the ATHENA Framework [1] of the ATLAS [2] experiment encounter lengthy compilation/linking times. To augment this situation, the IRIS Development Platform was built as a software development framework acting as compiler, cross-project linker and data fetcher, which allow hot-swaps in order to compare various versions of software under test. The flexibility fostered by IRIS allowed modular exchange of software libraries among developers, making it a powerful development tool. The IRIS platform used input data ROOT-ntuples [3]; however a new data model is sought, in line with the facilities offered by IRIS. The schematic of a possible new data structuring—as a user implemented object oriented data base, is presented.

Abstract: La concurrence accrue manifestée dans le marché détermine les entreprises de chercher des solutions pour améliorer leur compétitivité. Une solution viable est d’adopter une stratégie de la qualité, qui permet de former une perception favorable pour ses produits a ses clients. L’objectif du cet article este de mettre en évidence les avantages qu’on peut bénéficier les entreprises qui adoptent une telle stratégie fondée sur la qualité. Sont présentés les concepts intégrateurs de la qualité: Total Quality Control, Company Wide Quality Control, Total Quality Management, et leur importance pour le succès d’un démarche stratégique de la compétitivité.
Duality for Multitime Multiobjective Ratio Variational Problems on First Order Jet Bundle

Abstract: We consider a new class of multitime multiobjective variational problems of minimizing a vector of quotients of functionals of curvilinear integral type. Based on the efficiency conditions for multitime multiobjective ratio variational problems, we introduce a ratio dual of generalized Mond-Weir-Zalmai type, and under some assumptions of generalized convexity, duality theorems are stated. We prove our weak duality theorem for efficient solutions, showing that the value of the objective function of the primal cannot exceed the value of the dual. Direct and converse duality theorems are stated, underlying the connections between the values of the objective functions of the primal and dual programs. As special cases, duality results of Mond-Weir-Zalmai type for a multitime multiobjective variational problem are obtained. This work further develops our studies in (Pitea and Postolache (2011)).

Abstract: A previous paper (2011), Pitea andPostolache, considered the problem of minimization of vectors of curvilinear functionals(well known as mechanical work), thought as multitime multiobjective variationalproblem, subject to PDE and/or PDI constraints. They have chosen the suitable frameworkoffered by the second-order jet bundle, and initiated an optimization theory forthis class of problems by introducing necessary conditions. As natural continuationof these results, the present work introduces a dual program theory, the general setting, and the theory which is new as a whole, containing ourresults.

Linear Recurrent Double Sequences with Constant Border in M2(F2) are Classified According to Their Geometric Content

Abstract: The author used the automatic proof procedure introduced in [1] and verified that the 4096 homomorphic recurrent double sequences with constant borders defined over Klein’s Vierergruppe K and the 4096 linear recurrent double sequences with constant border defined over the matrix ring M2(F2) can be also produced by systems of substitutions with finitely many rules. This permits the definition of a sound notion of geometric content for most of these sequences, more exactly for those which are not primitive. We group the 4096 many linear recurrent double sequences with constant border I over the ring M2(F2) in 90 geometric types. The classification over Klein’s Vierergruppe Kis not explicitly displayed and consists of the same geometric types like for M2(F2), but contains more exceptions. There are a lot of cases of unsymmetric double sequences converging to symmetric geometric contents. We display also geometric types occurring both in a monochromatic and in a dichromatic version.
