Harmonic Analysis in Discrete Dynamical Systems  [PDF]
Gerardo Pastor, Miguel Romera, Amalia Beatriz Orue, Agustin Martin, Marius F. Danca, Fausto Montoya
International Journal of Modern Nonlinear Theory and Application (IJMNTA) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/ijmnta.2012.11003
Abstract: In this paper we review several contributions made in the field of discrete dynamical systems, inspired by harmonic analysis. Within discrete dynamical systems, we focus exclusively on quadratic maps, both one-dimensional (1D) and two-dimensional (2D), since these maps are the most widely used by experimental scientists. We first review the applications in 1D quadratic maps, in particular the harmonics and antiharmonics introduced by Metropolis, Stein and Stein (MSS). The MSS harmonics of a periodic orbit calculate the symbolic sequences of the period doubling cascade of the orbit. Based on MSS harmonics, Pastor, Romera and Montoya (PRM) introduced the PRM harmonics, which allow to calculate the structure of a 1D quadratic map. Likewise, we review the applications in 2D quadratic maps. In this case both MSS harmonics and PRM harmonics deal with external arguments instead of with symbolic sequences. Finally, we review pseudoharmonics and pseudoantiharmonics, which enable new interesting applications.
Cryptanalyzing a discrete-time chaos synchronization secure communication system
Gonzalo Alvarez,Fausto Montoya,Miguel Romera,Gerardo Pastor
Physics , 2003, DOI: 10.1016/j.chaos.2003.12.013
Abstract: This paper describes the security weakness of a recently proposed secure communication method based on discrete-time chaos synchronization. We show that the security is compromised even without precise knowledge of the chaotic system used. We also make many suggestions to improve its security in future versions.
Residual symptoms and functioning in depression, does the type of residual symptom matter? A post-hoc analysis
Irene Romera, Víctor Pérez, Antonio Ciudad, Luis Caballero, Miguel Roca, Pepa Polavieja, Inmaculada Gilaberte
BMC Psychiatry , 2013, DOI: 10.1186/1471-244x-13-51
Abstract: Patients with MDD who responded (≥50% on the 17-item Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression; HAMD-17) after 3?months of treatment (624/930) were included. Residual core mood-symptoms (HAMD-17 core symptom subscale ≥1), residual insomnia-symptoms (HAMD-17 sleep subscale ≥1), residual anxiety-symptoms (HAMD-17-anxiety subscale ≥1), residual somatic-symptoms (HAMD-17 Item 13 ≥1), pain (Visual Analogue Scale ≥30), and functioning were assessed after 3?months treatment. A stepwise logistic regression model with normal functioning (Social and Occupational Functioning Assessment Scale ≥80) as the dependent variable was used. After 3?months, 59.5% of patients (371/624) achieved normal functioning and 66.0% (412/624) were in remission. Residual symptom prevalence was: core mood symptoms 72%; insomnia 63%; anxiety 78%; and somatic symptoms 41%. Pain reported in 18%. Factors associated with normal functioning were absence of core mood symptoms (odds ratio [OR] 8.7; 95% confidence interval [CI], 4.6–16.7), absence of insomnia symptoms (OR 1.8; 95% CI, 1.2–2.7), episode length (4–24?weeks vs. ≥24?weeks [OR 2.0; 95% CI, 1.1–3.6]) and better baseline functioning (OR 1.0; 95% CI, 1.0–1.1). A significant interaction between residual anxiety symptoms and pain was found (p?=?0.0080).Different residual symptoms are associated to different degrees with patient functioning. To achieve normal functioning, specific residual symptoms domains might be targeted for treatment.Residual symptoms of depression cause significant functional impairment [1,2]. This has been reported in patients who respond but are not remitters, partial remitters [1,2], and even in remitters (typically defined as a score of ≤7 on the 17-item Hamilton Depression Rating scale [HAMD-17]) with residual symptoms [2]. Residual symptoms are also associated with persistent functional impairment [1]. However, little is known about the role of specific residual symptom domains, such as core symptoms, symptoms of anxiety, somatic
Critical wetting of a class of nonequilibrium interfaces: A computer simulation study
Elvira Romera,Francisco de los Santos,Omar Al Hammal,Miguel A. Munoz
Physics , 2008, DOI: 10.1103/PhysRevE.77.011116
Abstract: Critical wetting transitions under nonequilibrium conditions are studied numerically and analytically by means of an interface-displacement model defined by a Kardar-Parisi-Zhang equation, plus some extra terms representing a limiting, short-ranged attractive wall. Its critical behavior is characterized in detail by providing a set of exponents for both the average height and the surface order-parameter in one dimension. The emerging picture is qualitatively and quantitatively different from recently reported mean-field predictions for the same problem. Evidence is shown that the presence of the attractive wall induces an anomalous scaling of the interface local slopes.
LA FEDE CRISTIANA DI FRONTE ALLE SFIDE DELLA CULTURA CONTEMPORANEA THE CHRISTIAN FAITH TOWARDS THE CHALLENGES OF CONTEMPORARY CULTURE
LUIS ROMERA
Synesis , 2012,
Abstract: : La cultura contemporanea è di solito denominata post-moderna. The contemporary culture we live in is usually called “post-modern”. Its relationship with modernity is dialectic in the sense that our culture accepts the basic inspiration of modernity but criticizes some of its presuppositions. Hence originate a mixture of light and shadow, and important challenges, as for instance: recovering a concept of reason that is not one-dimensional, and overcoming social and anthropological reductionisms produced by secularization. The marginalization of religion and religious indifference are typical phenomena of the process of secularization. They create a vacuum in the human person that a merely functional and individualistic religious feeling cannot address sufficiently in an anthropological and religious sense. Facing these challenges the Christian faith is an important element that opens human reason to the truth and offers salvation to man by guiding him to the love of God.

Stereo Vision Tracking of Multiple Objects in Complex Indoor Environments

Sensors , 2010, DOI: 10.3390/s101008865
Abstract: This paper presents a novel system capable of solving the problem of tracking multiple targets in a crowded, complex and dynamic indoor environment, like those typical of mobile robot applications. The proposed solution is based on a stereo vision set in the acquisition step and a probabilistic algorithm in the obstacles position estimation process. The system obtains 3D position and speed information related to each object in the robot’s environment; then it achieves a classification between building elements (ceiling, walls, columns and so on) and the rest of items in robot surroundings. All objects in robot surroundings, both dynamic and static, are considered to be obstacles but the structure of the environment itself. A combination of a Bayesian algorithm and a deterministic clustering process is used in order to obtain a multimodal representation of speed and position of detected obstacles. Performance of the final system has been tested against state of the art proposals; test results validate the authors’ proposal. The designed algorithms and procedures provide a solution to those applications where similar multimodal data structures are found.

Variantes ethnonymiques de la locution filer à l’anglaise
ángela Magdalena Romera Pintor
Synergies Espagne , 2012,
Abstract: La locution fran aise filer à l’anglaise se retrouve dans un grand nombre de langues européennes, telles que l’espagnol ( despedirse a la francesa ), l’anglais ( to take French leave ), l’allemand ( sich auf franz sisch empfehlen ) ou l’italien ( andarsene alla francese ).
