Abstract: The child with developmental disabilities significantly influences the lives of the other members within the family. Findings in the therapy and rehabilitation of children with developmental disabilities emphasize the importance of the parental role in the support of his/her development. The type of child’s disability is a very important factor, because if the disability requires a high level of dependence on the help provided by the family members, it decreases their quality of life. This study is the first of this kind conducted in Croatia, which investigates an important issue that arises within the families of children with disabilities. Its aim was to evaluate whether the type and level of the child′s developmental disability, affects the parental perceived subjective quality of life. In regards to the limited resources and explorative nature of this study, as well as the legal and social sensitivity of the topic, three subsamples were constructed each containing parents of children with developmental disabilities, which were volunteers and members of parental associations; parents who had child with motor, psychomotor or intellectual disability, respectively. The International Wellbeing Index, IWI, consisting of the Personal Wellbeing Index-PWI and the National Wellbeing Index- NWI, was applied. The obtained results didn't show statistically significant difference between the subsamples of parents. Such results didn’t differ from other study carried out among the general population, but comparison of these results showed more positive subjective wellbeing among the parents, when compared to the results from a study carried out on parents of children with autistic spectrum disorders. Therefore, it can be concluded that the type and degree of child's disability affects the level of perceived subjective wellbeing.

Sociologija , 2013, DOI: 10.2298/soc1301141m
Abstract: The period of adolescence is the most risky stage when it comes to the beginning of the consumption of illegal psychoactive substances, and the goal of this research is the examination of social and individual factors that contribute to this phenomenon. Specifically, this study has aimed to determine the contribution of personal characteristics, affective states and characteristics of social environment to the use of illegal psychoactive substances in adolescence. The sample consisted of 629 adolescents, high school students. Multivariate analysis of covariance confirmed the existence of a significant relation between the studied social and individual factors with the use of illegal psychoactive substances in young people. Social environment factors, namely the use of illegal psychoactive substances by peers, proved to be the most important for this behavior in adolescents. In addition, significant factors of using illegal substances in adolescence have proved to be personality traits extraversion, openness, agreeableness, conscientiousness, dysphoria, stressful experiences in a social context - the total number of stressors, family and school stressors, and the availability of illegal psychoactive substance in the social environment of adolescents. These results can be applied to design appropriate prevention programs.

Socio-demographic factors and substance use in adolescence
Mari? Mia
Stanovni?tvo , 2011, DOI: 10.2298/stnv1102091m
Abstract: The emergence of risky behavior is characteristic in adolescence. Of all forms of risky behavior in adolescence, the use of psychoactive substances - cigarettes, alcohol and illegal psychoactive substances particularly stand out, because of the frequency and degree of prevalence of use, and because of the impact that they have on youth development in this sensitive stage of growing up. Unfortunately, today we are witnessing the fact that such behavior in adolescents has gained an increasingly epidemic character mainly due to the characteristics of the social context in which young people are growing up. The main objective of this research, conducted in the framework of the doctoral dissertation of the author, was determining relations between relevant sociodemographic factors: gender, age, school success, financial status and place of residence of respondents, with the appearance and intensity of use of three types of psychoactive substances - cigarettes, alcohol and illegal psychoactive substances among the general population of adolescents. The sample represents non-clinical young population, and it consists of 529 adolescents, students of the 2nd and 4th class of secondary school (17 and 18 years old). The data was collected by using Scale use of PAS (psychoactive substances) in adolescents, which was designed for the purpose of this research, as well as using a set of questions intended for the registration of socio-demographic variables. Respondents filled in questionnaires in groups, during the school lessons. The data show a relationship between the three studied socio-demographic variables with the occurrence and degree of use of psychoactive substances in the adolescence period, such as gender, age and school success of the respondents. As regards gender of respondents associated with the occurrence and degree of alcohol and illegal substance use in adolescents, male adolescents more likely use alcohol and illegal psychoactive substances. Age of respondents associated with the use of all three types of psychoactive substances in adolescence, found that older adolescents were more likely to use cigarettes, alcohol and illegal psychoactive substances. School success of the respondents is associated with the occurrence and degree of use of all three tested categories of psychoactive substances - cigarettes, alcohol and drugs, and the obtained findings indicate that with the decline in school success, the prevalence of all three types of psychoactive substances increases in adolescence. Besides the theoretical significance, the applicability of the

Otters Caught in Traps: A Minor Problem or the Tip of an Iceberg?
Mia Bisther
IUCN Otter Specialist Group Bulletin , 2011,
Abstract: In Sweden, only four otters have been reported killed in mink traps during the last three decades. But one third of 1 024 traps found during otter surveys 1989-2010 were illegally constructed. The most frequent incorrectness was a too large entrance hole of the trap. This considerable increases the risk for otters to get caught in traps. There is a need for changed regulations as well as better information about trap selectivity.
