Discriminación racial, desplazamiento y género en las sentencias de la Corte Constitucional. El racismo cotidiano en el banquillo
Meertens,Donny;
Universitas Humanística , 2008,
Abstract: in this article, we undertake an exploration of a relatively new topic in the studies of the contemporary colombian society: discrimination, understood in its negative as well as positive sense, although focusing more on the former. we look at discrimination - and particularly racial discrimination, intertwined with gender and the suffering of a population in forced displacement - from a field of analysis that moves between the spheres of normativity and everyday practices. the first is represented by international normativity, the colombian constitution from 1991 and the jurisprudence of the constitutional court during the past years; the second sphere we examine through the same lens of court sentences, complemented by some examples of everyday racism in a poor locality on the south side of bogotá.

Anales Venezolanos de Nutrición , 2002,
Abstract: women in reproductive age are one of the groups at risk of specific nutrient deficiencies. iron deficiency anemia in the fertile woman is one of the most frequent nutritional problems, while the deficiency of zinc has been associated to the use of oral contraceptive in this same group. the purpuse of this study was to determine the hemoglobin levels, serum zinc and ferritin of women in reproductive ages. the sample consisted of 60 women 15 to 45 years of age, apparently healthy, that attended the family planning control clinic of the regional health service. hemoglobin was determined by an automated method, ferritine by enzyme immunoassay and zinc by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. body mass index (bmi) was used to assess nutritional status. use of contraceptives was determined. mean values for hemoglobin, ferritin and serum zinc were 12.98±1.4 g/dl, 30.77±18.78 ng/ml, and 77.12±11.87 g/dl, respectively. fifteen percent of the women was found undernourished, 13.3% presented overweight, and 13.3% obesity. thirteen percent of the assessed women presented iron deficiency anemia and 41.8% hypozincemia. no significant association was found among iron and zinc deficiency and anticonceptive use. these results suggest the need for intervention in this vulnerable group.

Investigación Clínica , 2005,
Abstract: in order to evaluate nutritional status by anthropometry, a group of elderly (60 to 83 years old) was studied: 63 institutionalized and 37 non-institutionalized elderly from valencia city, venezuela. weight, height, triceps skinfold and mid-arm circumference were measured and the body mass index (weight/height2) was calculated. the average age for the institutionalized group was 77,3 ± 7,5 years old and 69,5 ± 7,6 years old for the free-living elderly group. tricipital skinfold (tsf) and mid-arm circumference (mac) means were within the normal reference range for both groups, without significant differences by sex. body mass index (bmi) was higher in the institutionalized group. lower bmi and mac were found in older elderly (3 80 y). according to the nutritional classification by bmi, 16% of nutritional deficit, 45% of normal status and 39.7% with of excess weight were found in institutionalized elderly; while in free-living elderly, prevalences were 8%, 62% and 29,7% respectively. even though normal nutritional status was highly prevalent, institutionalized elderly showed higher prevalences of nutritional alterations (underweight and overweight).
Vitamina B12, Acido Fólico y Función Mental en Adultos Mayores

Investigación Clínica , 2005,
Abstract: elderly people is a vulnerable population group to specific nutrient deficiencies as vitamin b12 and folic acid, which are closely related to mental functions deterioration, especially of cognitive functions. this study was aimed to measure b12 vitamin and folic acid indicators and to establish relationships to mental function. 53 elderly, older than 60 years, living in a geriatric home were assessed. the dietary intake was evaluated by the direct weighed method, serum b12 vitamin and folic acid by radioimmunoanalysis and mental function by foltein′s mini-mental test. dietary intake for vit b12 was adequate and deficient for folic acid while serum levels were within normal range. vitamin b12 levels were at marginal or deficiency values in 26,4% of the elderly and folic acid deficiency was present in 43.4%. 49% of the elderly had mental function alterations and b12 vitamin levels were significantly lower in this group. a positive association between age and mental function (elderly below 80 years had lower risk of mental impairment) and between serum b12 and mental function were found. elderly were at risk of deficiency for both vitamins and age and mental function were associated to this risk. further evaluation including other nutrients should be performed

Abstract: Over the last decade, the 1-sample-per-second kinematic Global Positioning System (GPS) has been used as a displacement sensor in earthquake observations and for structural health monitoring. Many researchers in both seismology and engineering have expressed the desire for higher-sample-rate (10-sample-per-second or higher) GPS data to acquire high-frequency displacement information. We performed several shake table tests of GPS observation on 29 April, 2009 for the purpose of evaluating the performance of high-rate kinematic GPS. We found that the accuracy of high-rate kinematic GPS depended on antenna movement, but was independent of receiver sampling rate. The errors in kinematic GPS measurements during the periods of strong shaking were systematically larger than those during the static periods. Furthermore, we found that these large errors were coincident with large accelerations and jerks in the motions experienced by the GPS receivers and antennas. Observations from the 2010 earthquake in Maule, Chile (M 8.8) indicated that strong ground motions can degrade the accuracy of high-rate kinematic GPS measurements. Significant jerks and/or accelerations can cause GPS units to temporarily lose tracking on satellite signals and lead to gaps in GPS-recorded seismograms.

Menopause is associated with an increased body weight and changes in fat distribution, high levels of homocysteine and cardiovascular risk factors associated with estrogen deficiency. The objective was to evaluate body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), waist/hip index (WHI), and serum homocysteine (Hct) levels in postmenopausal women (n 128). Nutritional status was diagnosed by BMI (WHO), WC (normal <88cm, at risk> 88cm), WHI (normal <0.8, at risk> 0.8), serum homocysteine (Hct) (ELISA) normal < 10 mmol/L, at risk >10-15mmol/L, high >15mmol/L and estradiol (ELISA) <65pg/mL (menopause). Sixty five point nine % were overweight/obese, 47.3% and 82.2% showed cardio metabolic risk by WC and WHI. There was a significant difference for WHI, and a positive significant correlation between anthropometrics indexes. Ten % showed risk and hyperhomocysteinaemia, but it was not correlated with the evaluated variables. The subjects had a high frequency of overweight, obesity and android fat distribution, showing a high risk for cardiometabolics diseases.
