Hydrologic balance estimation using GIS in Korinthia prefecture, Greece

Abstract: The main objective of this work is to determine the parameters of hydrological balance for several basins in the prefecture of Korinthia (SE Greece), using hydrometeorological data and geographic information systems (GIS) technology. Multiple linear regression and GIS were used to estimate the spatial distribution of rainfall. The largest precipitation amounts occur in the SW part of the region and decrease towards the eastern and northern coastal parts. The long term mean annual rainfall is 1.39×109 m3. Based on the Thornthwaite method, infiltration and streamflow were estimated to be 0.29×109 m3/yr and 0.38×109 m3/yr, respectively. The unequal distribution of rainfall results in water surplus in the western part of Korinthia prefecture and water deficit in the eastern. We conclude that he estimation of hydrologic balance is a useful tool in order to establish sustainable water resources management in each hydrological basin.
Camp Sports Injuries: Analysis of Causes, Modes and Frequencies

Abstract: The purpose of this study was the description of sports injuries sustained by campers at summer camps, aged 7-15 years. A sample of 8 camps from the Greek camp population participated in this sport injury surveillance study. Doctors and camp directors completed reports detailing the number of sports injuries events sustained and provided specific information about each event. During the period of the study, 337 sport injury reports were completed. A total of 237 (70.3%) boys and 100 (29.7%) girls reported having a sport injury. Age of campers sustaining a sport injury was 10-12 years old (60.8%). The frequency of sports injuries was highest during the first camp season. The leading causes of sports injuries in children’s were: falls, crushed by object, collision with other person and slips. Cut/scratch injuries were the most common diagnoses (38.9%). Football, basketball and volleyball were the most frequent sport activities for injuries. Reports based surveillance systems can be successfully used to conducts sport injury surveillance among children attending summer camps. Data collected via such systems can be used to calculate sports injury rates, to describe patterns of sport injury and to identify risk factors for camper – related sport injuries. The results provide necessary information to develop prevention interventions to decrease the number of youth whose camp experiences are negatively affected by sport injury.
Summer Camp at Sport injuries: a Tool for Safety Planning

Abstract: This study analyses surveillance data on summer camp sport injuries. The aim of this study was to create a typology of sport injury characteristics and circumstances specifically designed to elaborate safety strategies. Seven variables describing aspects of 337 summer camp sports injuries registered over a 3 month period in 8 different camps summer were analyzed simultaneously using, in sequence, the factorial analysis of correspondence (FAC) and the hierarchical ascendant classification (HAC). Relationships between sport injury characteristics and injured pupils’ age and gender were measured. Five sport injury patterns as a typology was obtained and significant relationships were found to exist amongst sport injury patterns, age and gender. Findings revealed that the construction of a sport injury typology - by means of methods similar to those employed in the current study – may be of use for those concerned with camp sport injury prevention, such as camp managers and administrators.
The One-Body and Two-Body Density Matrices of Finite Nuclei and Center-of-Mass Correlations

Abstract: A method is presented for the calculation of the one-body and two-body density matrices and their Fourier transforms in momentum space, that is consistent with the requirement for translational invariance, in the case of a nucleus (a finite self-bound system). We restore translational invariance by using the so-called fixed center-of-mass approximation for constructing an intrinsic nuclear ground state wavefunction by starting from a non-translationally invariant wavefunction and applying a projection prescription. We discuss results for the one-body and two-body momentum distributions of the 4He nucleus calculated with the Slater determinant of the harmonic oscillator orbitals, as the initial non-translationally invariant wavefunction. Effects of such an inclusion of CM correlations are found to be quite important in the momentum distributions.

Abstract: The one-body and two-body density matrices in coordinate space and their Fourier transforms in momentum space are studied for a nucleus (a nonrelativistic, self-bound finite system). Unlike the usual procedure, suitable for infinite or externally bound systems, they are determined as expectation values of appropriate intrinsic operators, dependent on the relative coordinates and momenta (Jacobi variables) and acting on intrinsic wavefunctions of nuclear states. Thus, translational invariance (TI) is respected. When handling such intrinsic quantities, we use an algebraic technique based upon the Cartesian representation, in which the coordinate and momentum operators are linear combinations of the creation and annihilation operators a^+ and a for oscillator quanta. Each of the relevant multiplicative operators can then be reduced to the form: one exponential of the set {a^+} times other exponential of the set {a}. In the course of such a normal-ordering procedure we offer a fresh look at the appearance of "Tassie-Barker" factors, and point out other model-independent results. The intrinsic wavefunction of the nucleus in its ground state is constructed from a nontranslationally-invariant (nTI) one via existing projection techniques. As an illustration, the one-body and two-body momentum distributions (MDs) for the 4He nucleus are calculated with the Slater determinant of the harmonic-oscillator model as the trial, nTI wavefunction. We find that the TI introduces important effects in the MDs.
The Effect of the Short-Range Correlations on the Generalized Momentum Distribution in Finite Nuclei

Abstract: The effect of dynamical short-range correlations on the generalized momentum distribution $n(\vec{p},\vec{Q})$ in the case of $Z=N$, $\ell$-closed shell nuclei is investigated by introducing Jastrow-type correlations in the harmonic-oscillator model. First, a low order approximation is considered and applied to the nucleus $^4$He. Compact analytical expressions are derived and numerical results are presented and the effect of center-of-mass corrections is estimated. Next, an approximation is proposed for $n(\vec{p}, \vec{Q})$ of heavier nuclei, that uses the above correlated $n(\vec{p},\vec{Q})$ of $^4$He. Results are presented for the nucleus $^{16}$O. It is found that the effect of short-range correlations is significant for rather large values of the momenta $p$ and/or $Q$ and should be included, along with center of mass corrections for light nuclei, in a reliable evaluation of $n(\vec{p},\vec{Q})$ in the whole domain of $p$ and $Q$.
The Two-Body Momentum Distribution in Finite Nuclei

Abstract: The two-body momentum distribution n2(p1,p2) of nuclei is studied. First, a compact analytical expression is derived for Z=N l-closed nuclei, within the context of the independent-particle shell model. Application to the light closed-shell nucleus 16O is included and discussed. Next, the effect of dynamical, short-range correlations is investigated in the case of 4He, by including Jastrow-type correlations in the formalism. The effect is significant for large values of p1 and p2 and for angles between the vectors p1 and p2 close to 180 deg. and 0.

Abstract: Advanced educational technologies like Virtual Laboratories are being developed and launched in order to equip customers from higher education institutions, research and industry with efficient tools, supporting their work and operating new skills-training methods. Visual Model "Blast Furnace" based on a mathematical balance model of the blast furnace process has been developed for distance learning (DL) purposes. It processes entered parameters and outputs both operating and learning results. The model simulates also sinter and pellets manufacture as well as operation of hot stove. The teacher and learners can interact with each other using software interface which allows to monitor the activity of the learners, answer their questions, and analyse the learning results. The model is an ingredient of the "Virtual Lab Ironmaking". Se desarrollan y presentan tecnologías avanzadas de educación, como los Laboratorios Virtuales, para suministrar a los clientes de las instituciones de educación superior, investigación e industria, en apoyo de su trabajo, nuevos y eficientes métodos de operación y técnicas especiales de adiestramiento. Se ha desarrollado el Modelo Visual de "Horno Alto" basado en un modelo matemático del balance del proceso del horno alto, para fines de educación a distancia. Procesa los parámetros de entrada y salida en operación y los resultados de la ense anza. El modelo también simula la fabricación de sinter y pelets, además de la operación de las estufas. El profesor y alumnos pueden interactuar entre sí usando un software que permite seguir la marcha de la actividad de los alumnos, responder a sus preguntas y analizar los resultados del aprendizaje. El modelo es parte del "Laboratorio Virtual de Fabricación de Arrabio".
