Abstract: with the objective of investigating the use of business information in the strategic decision process in tbcs of celta this exploratory research was developed as a case study. data analyses revealed that the tbcs managers know that the strategic information is important and relevant in the managing process of decision taking. however, there is no evidence of the use of the structured information in the process of strategic decision.
A importancia do diagnóstico precoce na preven??o das anemias hereditárias
Melo-Reis, Paulo R.;Araújo, Luiz M. M.;Dias-Penna, Karlla G. B.;Mesquita, Mauro M.;Castro, Frank S.;Costa, Sérgio H. N.;
Revista Brasileira de Hematologia e Hemoterapia , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-84842006000200017
Abstract: hereditary anaemias, which include hemoglobinopathies and thalassaemias, are genetically determined diseases. in most cases patients are asymptomatic and do not know about their genetic defect. in general, there is a deficit in the clinical and laboratorial investigations of these diseases that affect a significant number of brazilians. the reporting of this case aims at highlighting the importance of precocious clinical-laboratorial diagnosis. this diagnosis is only possible if it is performed, by a qualified professional, using specific methodologies to elucidate the varying genetic interactions. a study of the affected families is an essential part of the diagnoses; many cases require genetic counseling to avoid transmission of these anomalies resulting in sick individuals who occasionally have short life expectancies.
Prevalência de anticorpos antimicrossomais em pacientes com esclerose múltipla

Arquivos de Neuro-Psiquiatria , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0004-282X2004000400020
Abstract: the aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of antimicrosomal antibodies ama, thyroid function and the occurrence of hypothyroidism symptoms in patients with multiple sclerosis (ms). clinical examination was carried out in 21 ms patients; thyroid-stimulating hormone (tsh), thyroxine (t4), free t4 and ama were measured. mean age was 41.05 years. hypothyroidism symptoms included fatigue, weakness, lethargy and paresthesia. ama were found in four patients (19%). three categories of disease duration were considered: <60 months (3 patients ama+; 7 ama-), 60-120 months (8 patients ama-), and >120 months (1 patient ama+; 2 ama-). two patients presented decreased free t4 levels, but there was no associated decrease in t4 and tsh levels. in two patients, a mild increase in tsh levels was observed: one presented normal t4 levels (subclinical hypothyroidism) and the other one had low free t4 levels (classical hypothyroidism). we conclude that ama measurement and thyroid function tests should become part of the routine assessment of ms patients, in view of the inaccuracy currently observed in the assessment of clinical hypothyroidism as a result of the superposition of hypothyroidism and ms signs and symptoms.
Toxoplasma gondii in semen of experimentally infected swine
Moura, Anderson B.;Costa, Alvimar J.;Jord?o Filho, Sérgio;Paim, Beatriz B.;Pinto, Fernanda R.;Di Mauro, Daniela C.;
Pesquisa Veterinária Brasileira , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-736X2007001000008
Abstract: eight reproductive boars were divided into three groups and inoculated with toxoplasma gondii [gi (n=3) 1.5x104 oocysts strain p; gii (n=3) 1.0x106 tachyzoites strain rh; and giii (n=2) non-inoculated control]. clinical, hematological, parasitemia and serological tests and studies of the parasite in the semen through bioassay and pcr, and in reproductive organs (bioassay and immunohistochemical analyses) were conducted to evaluate the toxoplasmic infection. blood and semen were collected on day -2, -1, 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 14 and weekly up to 84 days post-inoculation (dpi). no clinical or hematimetric alteration was observed in the boars. parasitemia was detected in one boar inoculated with oocysts at the 7th dpi and in another boar infected with tachyzoites (gii) at the 3rd and 49th dpi. serological tests revealed antibodies against t. gondii in animals inoculated with oocysts or tachyzoites at the 7th dpi with dilutions of 1:256 and 1:64, which reached peaks of 1:4096 at day 11 and 9, respectively. the bioassays revealed the presence of the parasite in semen samples of a boar inoculated with oocysts (gi) at 3, 49 and 56 dpi and from two boars infected with tachyzoites (gii), one animal at 5 and two animals at 49 days dpi. mice inoculated with semen from the control group (giii) remained serologically negative. pcr analysis showed t. gondii dna in the semen of boar 1 and boar 3 inoculated with tachyzoites and oocysts, respectively. the immuno-histochemical tests showed t. gondii in the reproductive organs of boar 1 and boar 2, inoculated with tachyzoites and oocysts, respectively. these findings suggest the possible occurrence of venereal transmission of t. gondii in swine.

Braga, Mauro Mendes;Azevedo, Sérgio de;

Abstract: this article reports questions related to the training and jobs of chemistry graduates from brazilian universities. it is focussed on academic and career paths and on relations between knowledge and work. the main questions addressed in this study were: what have been the paths since undergraduate education? what were graduates doing before their enrolment in master and doctoral programs? which were their motivations for this? where do graduates work now? how do they appraise some aspects of their graduate education? did the degree enlarge their job opportunities and improve work quality? how much do they earn?
