Crippa, Giulia;
Revista Estudos Feministas , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-026X2003000100007
Abstract: a proposal of gender interpretation of female artistic production during the so called modernism, based on common elements in tarsila do amaral's, frida kalho's, tamara de lempicka's and georgia o'keeffe's art works, without denying their individual dimension, built upon the esthetic definition of grotesque. grotesque, in its gender and historical expression, seems to represent a face of the common language used by women, trying to meet a strategy in order to be recognized by critics and markets. though, at one side, visual and decorative tradition set the "idealized feminine", on the other side grotesque, as a way of breaking reality as rational and coherent, historically related to anti-classic movement, offers an opening to a sexuated and non-conformist expression to female artists.
A solu??o cartesiana da quadratura do círculo
Crippa, Davide;
Scientiae Studia , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1678-31662010000400005
Abstract: although the problem of squaring the circle, that is, the problem of constructing a square having the same area of a given circle, was considered an open problem among early xviith century mathematicians, rené descartes affirmed that it could not be solved. on the other hand, he himself provided a solution to the problem, that can be dated in the period, 1625-1628. in this article, i will examine this solution by comparing it to an analysis made a century later by euler, and to a solution known to the ancients and discussed by pappus. i will investigate, successively, the reasons that led descartes to dismiss these two solutions as not acceptable in the light of the ideal of exactness deployed in the geometry.
Crippa, Giulia;
Revista de Nutri??o , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1415-52732010000100016
Abstract: an iconographic and literary study on seasonal work as productive cycle between antiquity and the late middle ages is proposed, looking for boundaries between the iconographies and economy and society that produced them. the auspicious representation prevails in the historical view of iconographies associated with the prediction and hope of abundance. within the medieval society they are deeply bounded to main themes such as season changes, cyclic passage of time, journey through birth, death and resurrection. the representations of monthly work and activities change, and this change is much more than a mirror reflection, a reflection of society on the space and actors of the food production cycle. the legacy of antiquity to the middle ages is a great amount of images based on notions of personification as well of reference for the activities associated with the seasonal changes, a legacy that will be assessed and changed based on the new social and religious experience. these permeate the century during which most of the month cycles illustrated by productive works in the field are produced.
Reflex es acerca do espetáculo como fundamento cultural do Ocidente

Abstract: A critical overview of western culture using, as an interpretative key, Guy Debords definition of Spectacular Society. It is observed that western society is able to preserve and sustain its legitimate power(s), in a spectacular dimension, through a systematic operation of alienation of living reality and its substitution via images, adapted by the very same power. This can be seen since the vanishing of feudal relations in the urban world of the XIIth century, where a pre-capitalist economy based on commercial trades emerges. In this frame, the worst heresies and riots are found, together with the attempt made by the Church to preserve its orthodoxy through the spectacularization of its doctrine. Renaissance shows a slightly better equilibrium of power and society when seen through spectacular focus, but Protestant reform generates, insight the roman Church, the need of a new spectacularization for the Christians masses, creating the Baroque. Still, during French Revolution, a spectacularization of the same revolution permits a massive participation, through ways and contents, creating the spectacular contemporary mass society.

Giulia Crippa
Ricerche di S/Confine , 2012,
Abstract: The study of cultural practices and memorial interpretations, inside and outside institutions, is proposed. We analyze literature on the issue and we offer some example bound to these practices, in geographically distant places, with different cultural traditions but, at the same time, inserted in the so called cultural globalization reality. We propose alternative patterns of cultural mediation, intertwined to Cultural Studies perspectives, mainly Latin Americans, in the perspective of globalization.
