Reading entanglement in terms of spin configurations in quantum magnets
Andrea Fubini,Tommaso Roscilde,Valerio Tognetti,Matteo Tusa,Paola Verrucchi
Physics , 2005, DOI: 10.1140/epjd/e2006-00090-6
Abstract: We consider a quantum many-body system made of $N$ interacting $S{=}1/2$ spins on a lattice, and develop a formalism which allows to extract, out of conventional magnetic observables, the quantum probabilities for any selected spin pair to be in maximally entangled or factorized two-spin states. This result is used in order to capture the meaning of entanglement properties in terms of magnetic behavior. In particular, we consider the concurrence between two spins and show how its expression extracts information on the presence of bipartite entanglement out of the probability distributions relative to specific sets of two-spin quantum states. We apply the above findings to the antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model in a uniform magnetic field, both on a chain and on a two-leg ladder. Using Quantum Monte Carlo simulations, we obtain the above probability distributions and the associated entanglement, discussing their evolution under application of the field.
Research, protection and evaluation of Sicilian and Mediterranean marine cultural heritage
Sebastiano Tusa
Conservation Science in Cultural Heritage : Historical Technical Journal , 2009,
Abstract: Underwater archaeology in the Mediterranean should be based on a comprehensive, deep knowledge of a wide context of cultural environment. It is impossible to carry out an in-depth study of a specific wreck or site without having an overall cultural as well as historical perspective. It is, in fact, quite clear to everybody that even the most faraway shores of the Mediterranean were connected by means of a dense network of sea routes based on a rich trade throughout the centuries. But underwater archaeology also means the chance to understand the past environment due to the possibility of detecting ancient sea shores which nowadays are found below sea level. Today underwater archaeology also means deep sea research in extraterritorial waters. This aspect of underwater archaeological research is deeply connected with legal aspects that, in the framework of the recently approved UNESCO draft regarding the protection of underwater cultural heritage, should be planned according to international cooperation. 109 Conservation Science in Cultural Heritage Sicily has a great role in Mediterranean underwater archaeology because of its history and heritage, but also because Regional Government plays an important role in international debate in this field and because in Sicily a great impulse has been given to underwater archaeology research and cultural evaluation through the Soprintendenza del Mare
Percep ia discrimin rii de gen la nivelul popula iei educate tinere din Romania - o abordare cantitativa/ Perception of Gender Discrimination at the Level of Young Education Population from Romania. A Quantitative Approach

Journal for the Study of Religions and Ideologies , 2006,
Abstract: Gender discrimination is a reality affecting an important part of the socio-economic life. The study aims to examine, by using quantitative techniques, the main tendencies in the Romanian society regarding gender discrimination, as perceived by the young, educated population. In order to meet the objectives of the study, a cluster sampling was performed among the Romanian students. The results from the statisti- cal sampling were compared to national data from several studies made by national and international organizations. In the final part of the study, the findings of sampling research are validated by a logit model. The model is presenting the main factors that are generating gender discrimination, as well as the most important variables throughout which discrimination is perceived in Romania.

Annals of the University of Oradea : Economic Science , 2008,
Abstract: Assuring the health of the general public is a major objective of each country’s public health system. To insure this goal the public health system needs to offer good quality and prompt services according to the population’s needs The paper presents the main results of a two step sampling procedure applied within the medical institutions from Bucharest in July 2007. Using a representative sample of 407 persons the paper presents the main descriptive statistics calculated on the most important variables that were taken into account in order to quantify the impact of the reform measures applied in the public health care system on the quality of the medical services provided to the general public.
APPLYING THE STATISTICAL SURVEY METHOD IN EVALUATING THE PUBLIC HEALTH CARE SYSTEM IN ROMANIA

Journal of Applied Quantitative Methods , 2008,
Abstract: The reform of the public health care system is a complex and lengthy process, involving different types of people and institutions. The papers is revising the key issues that have to be taken into account when applying the reform process of the health care system and is analyzing some of the aspects of the reform process in the Romanian public health care system based on a survey that was conducted in 2007 among the medical doctors. The sampling plan had two steps and several primary and secondary variables were defined. Based on the 52 questions in the questionnaire, of which 49 have been closed, 177 primary questions were set, measured on a scale from 1 (low importance) to 5 (very high importance)Two aspects are analyzed with statistical tools in this paper: the overall opinion of the medical personnel regarding the quality of the reform process in the public health care system and the opinion regarding the quality of the factors that concur to ensuring the quality of the medical services. Two aggregated variables were defined in both cases, each based on five primary variables. The results show significant differences in the opinions according to gender, age group and personnel category of the interviewed medical doctors.
ANALYZING THE STUDENTS’ ACADEMIC INTEGRITY USING QUANTITATIVE METHODS
Daniel TEODORESCU,Tudorel ANDREI,Erika TUSA,Claudiu HERTELIU
Journal of Applied Quantitative Methods , 2007,
Abstract: The transition period in Romania has generated a series of important changes, including the reforming of the Romanian tertiary education. This process has been accelerated after the signing of the Bologna treaty. Important changes were recorded in many of the quantitative aspects (such as number of student enrolled, pupil-student ratio etc) as well qualitative aspects. The article aims to identify and analyze the main aspects related to the academic fraud in tertiary education, within Bucharest University Center, by using a statistic-survey-based assessment performed in November 2005. The research components rely on the students’ and professors’ academic behavior analysis, in close accordance with education performance factors.
Somatic cell mutations in cerebral tissue of cattle affected by bovine spongiform encephalopathy  [PDF]
Matteo Busconi, Corrado Fogher
Agricultural Sciences (AS) , 2010, DOI: 10.4236/as.2010.11005
Abstract: In animals the prion disease includes sheep and goat scrapie and the bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE). While several polymorphisms of the prion (PRNP) gene have been identified in sheep and some of them have been associated with susceptibility to scrapie, few mutations are reported in cattle and no correlation with BSE have been demonstrated. Genetic screening for mutants in the PRNP gene of 21 BSE positive animals by direct sequencing of the amplified gene, using DNA extracted from brain as template, confirmed that only few polymorphisms are present. However DNA molecules cloned and sequenced from the population of fragments considering a total of 90 clones from 9 BSE positive and 70 clones from 7 BSE negative animals, gave a highly significant differences in the frequency of mutations (p = 0.01). The high frequency and type of variants found cannot be explained only with misincorporation error of the Taq polymerase. Interestingly one of the mutations found in the BSE positive animals (F209S) corresponds to a mutant that causes a familiar form of prion disease in humans (F198S). These data can be explained with the presence of somatic mutations modifying the PRNP gene in single brain cells.
Related Party Transactions and Financial Performance: Is There a Correlation? Empirical Evidence from Italian Listed Companies  [PDF]

Open Journal of Accounting (OJAcct) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ojacct.2014.31004
Abstract: Related party transactions (RPTs) can have a dual nature. On one hand, these transactions may be considered sound business exchanges, fulfilling the economic needs of the company. On the other hand, RPTs may be considered a mechanism to exploit company resources as a consequence of existing conflicting interests. This study takes into account both aspects. Specifically, this paper investigates the relation between RPTs and companies’ financial performance, and thus verifies whether there is an association between these kinds of transactions and earnings management. This study examines the existence of this relation as regards the universe of Italian listed companies for the period of 2008-2011. According to the related data analysis, the research concludes that related party transactions and companies’ financial performance results are not correlated and that there is no evidence of a cause-effect relation. Therefore, related party transactions do not appear—thanks also to the existence of control mechanisms—a means used by Italian listed companies to realize earnings management, especially earnings smoothing.
