Abstract: A new system of large-diameter waveguide with liquid core for the measurement of liquid density is presented.The main advantage of this system is the relatively high measuring sensitivity. The principle of this system and the effect of construction parameters of the system on the sensitivity are discussed.The results of measurements are nearly in agreement with the theoretical analysis.
Methods for mapping QTLs underlying endosperm traits based on random hybridization design

Abstract: Several methods of interval mapping of QTLs underlying endosperm traits based on random hybridization designs and the triploid genetic model are proposed. The basic idea is: plants (or lines) from a population with known marker genotype information are randomly hybridized to generate a population of hybrid lines for endosperm QTL mapping; a mixture of seeds of each hybrid line is measured for the endosperm trait to get the mean of the line; then endosperm QTL mapping and effect estimation is performed using the endosperm trait means of hybrid lines and the marker genotype information of parental plants (or lines). The feasibility and efficiency of the methods are examined by computer simulations. Results show that the methods can precisely map endosperm QTLs and unbiasedly and efficiently estimate the three effects (additive effect, first dominant effect, second dominant effect) of endosperm QTLs.
The Zero-Crossing Distortion and One Cycle Control in Single-phase PFC

Abstract: Input current distortion in the vicinity of input voltage zero crossing of Boost single-phase active power factor corrected rectifier in high line frequency is studied based on one cycle control method in this paper. The current loop model and input admittance model of active power correction based on one cycle control is particularly analyzed. The results point out that its equivalent power stage of current loop is a 1st order system, and that its input admittance is the pure resistive around low frequency domain and the capacitive characteristics above 1 kHz. From about the frequency 1 kHz, then, the input line current phase leads input voltage. However, it is does not matter in aero ac power system with 400Hz or 360~800Hz line frequency in the future, and it is suitable for applications as front converter in aero power supply system.
Mapping of Imprinted Quantitative Trait Loci Using Immortalized F2 Populations

Abstract: Mapping of imprinted quantitative trait loci (iQTLs) is helpful for understanding the effects of genomic imprinting on complex traits in animals and plants. At present, the experimental designs and corresponding statistical methods having been proposed for iQTL mapping are all based on temporary populations including F2 and BC1, which can be used only once and suffer some other shortcomings respectively. In this paper, we propose a framework for iQTL mapping, including methods of interval mapping (IM) and composite interval mapping (CIM) based on conventional low-density genetic maps and point mapping (PM) and composite point mapping (CPM) based on ultrahigh-density genetic maps, using an immortalized F2 (imF2) population generated by random crosses between recombinant inbred lines or doubled haploid lines. We demonstrate by simulations that imF2 populations are very desirable and the proposed statistical methods (especially CIM and CPM) are very powerful for iQTL mapping, with which the imprinting effects as well as the additive and dominance effects of iQTLs can be unbiasedly estimated.
Cell cycle arrest in Metformin treated breast cancer cells involves activation of AMPK, downregulation of cyclin D1, and requires p27Kip1 or p21Cip1

Abstract: In this study, metformin was found to inhibit proliferation of most cultured breast cancer cell lines. This was independent of estrogen receptor, HER2, or p53 status. Inhibition of cell proliferation was associated with arrest within G0/G1 phase of the cell cycle. As in previous studies, metformin treatment led to activation of (AMPK) and downregulation of cyclin D1. However, these events were not sufficient for cell cycle arrest because they were also observed in the MDA-MB-231 cell line, which is not sensitive to growth arrest by metformin. In sensitive breast cancer lines, the reduction in cyclin D1 led to release of sequestered CDK inhibitors, p27Kip1 and p21Cip1, and association of these inhibitors with cyclin E/CDK2 complexes. The metformin-resistant cell line MDA-MB-231 expresses significantly lower levels of p27Kip1 and p21Cip1 than the metformin-sensitive cell line, MCF7. When p27Kip1 or p21Cip1 were overexpressed in MDA-MB-231, the cells became sensitive to cell cycle arrest in response to metformin.Cell cycle arrest in response to metformin requires CDK inhibitors in addition to AMPK activation and cyclin D1 downregulation. This is of interest because many cancers are associated with loss or downregulation of CDK inhibitors and the results may be relevant to the development of anti-tumor reagents that target the AMPK pathway.Metformin hydrochloride (N, N-dimethylimidodicarbonimidic diamide hydrochloride) is a commonly prescribed oral antihyperglycemic drug used in the management of Type 2 diabetes. Recent evidence indicates that metformin has significant effects on tumorigenesis and cancer cell growth. Design and Analysis of Virtual MIMO-Based Low-Power Control Algorithm for WSN

Abstract: In order to fully reduce network energy consumption, an improved virtual MIMO technique applied to small and medium scale isomorphism WSN is proposed. The life of WSN is prolonged by combining the energy-efficient virtual MIMO communication technology with the method that cluster heads are selected randomly and cyclically and the network energy load is balanced. Influencing factors on the virtual MIMO WSN energy-saving performance are analyzed carefully in this study, including the network size, node density and path loss factor. And the longest life of the network is used as optimization objective, the ratio of cluster head (the ratio of the number of cluster head required and the total number of nodes) which is a key parameter of WSN are optimized by genetic algorithm. Simulation results show that compared with LEACH this novel algorithm is more efficient to save energy of consumption and prolong the living time of the whole network when the parameters of network structure are properly selected.
Computer Aided Investigation towards the Wind Power Generation Potentials of Guangzhou

Abstract: Wind power generation potential of Guangzhou has been analyzed based on the wind speed data collected in the recent 30 years. In order to make the results more accurate, the Weibull distribution function is introduced and the two parameters can be identified by CAD method together with local weather data available. By referring to the power characteristics of the wind turbines, the monthly and yearly operating probabilities and the output power under different heights are analyzed. Given by the above data and the power generation cost, it is proved that although the wind power resources in Guangzhou is not very ideal, it can also be utilized to generate power.

Abstract: Cholesteatoma has been known to be associated with multiple complications either extracranially or intracranially. Among the extracranial complications, mastoiditis and mastoid abscess are the most common. Bezold’s abscess formation with cholesteatoma is a rare occurrence but when present can lead to sinister sequalae if not properly managed. The treatment of cholesteatoma is mainly by surgical exploration namely mastoidectomy. The aim of treatment is to eradicate the diseased mastoid and to prevent subsequent complications. Beside surgical intervention, the patient will also require intensive systemic and topical antibiotic therapy. With proper treatment patient will be hindered from experiencing unwanted complications.

Abstract: in el constructivismo ético, c.s. nino pointed out that "discussion and inter-subjective decision is the most trustable procedure when trying to arrive to moral truth". this epistemic thesis about moral knowledge clearly embraces a political assessment: in order to succeed at impartially satisfying the interests of everyone in a community, "the interchange of ideas and each person's necessity to justify in the face of the others" play a pivotal role. on the contrary, when the task in question is related to the auto-referential dimension of morality, the derivations of that thesis in nino's work become certainly unclear. by attempting to overstep this bound, i will explore in the present paper the connection that is supposed to exist between the social practice of moral communication and the discovery and justification of the auto-referential principles of behavior.
