Abstract: the objective of this research was to evaluate the effects of two levels of neutral detergent fiber (ndf) of the diet (25 and 35%) from two forage to concentrate (50:50 and 60:40) ratio on nutrient digestibility, fecal ph and blood parameters as lactate, glucose, urea, creatinine, fibrinogen and alkaline phosphatase, to establish minimum and safe levels of fiber in equines diets. five horses without defined race, with 6 to 8 years old and average 300 kg bw, were housing in metabolism cages. the animals were distributed to 5 × 5 latin square design, composed of five diets (two levels of ndf, 25 and 35%, two forage to concentrate ratio, 50:50 and 60:40, and a control diet, with 50:50 forage to concentrate ratio, and five periods. each period lasted 15 days (10 of adaptation and 5 for collection of feces and blood and ph fecal determination). neutral detergent fiber levels (25 and 35%) reduced the fiber components digestibility (cell wall fraction) of the diet, however, did not influence the levels of blood parameters as lactate, glucose, urea, creatinine and alkaline phosphatase and fecal ph. diet with 25% of ndf promoted change in fibrinogen plasma level, therefore, may increase the susceptibility of animals to colic and laminitis problems.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to study the lipid sources (coconut oil and soybean oil) and digestible energy levels (3350; 3450; 3550 and 3650kcal of DE/kg of ration effect) on swine reproductive performance. We use used eighty 60kg boars distributed in different treatments. There was no treatment effect on VLDL and lipase concentrations. The coconut oil provided higher HDL levels than soybean oil. The cholesterol, LDL and triglycerides levels were increased in a linear way with both lipid sources. The treatments did not cause a modification in plasma testosterone concentration. The semen volume and spermatic vigor was influenced by DE level when coconut oil was used. The spermatic concentration was increased by soybean oil. Considering the effect of the interaction between lipid source and DE level on spermatic motility, the coconut oil reduced this parameter in a quadratic way. The semen morphological alterations were normal. The increase of the coconut oil on diet raised cholesterol, LDL, HDL and triglycerides levels in the blood.

Abstract: an experiment was carried out to evaluate the effect of irrigation, followed by increasing levels of nitrogen and potassium (100-80; 200-160; 300-240; 400-320, respectively n and k2o), on the production and chemical composition of the leaf lamina at the elephantgrass. the experimental delineation was of blocks randomized with three repetitions for treatments irrigated and dry land. the low temperatures and the smallest light hours in the dry season determined the low plant forage growth, even with the irrigation. however, in the summer, there was fast growth of plant forage under irrigation, emphasizing the culm growth in relation to leaf laminas, determining the lower relations to the higher fertilizer levels. the leaf laminas under irrigation also showed the lower crude protein contents and higher ndf and adf contents. so, more frequent managing in the irrigated pastures could control the culm growth and available material of better chemical composition.

Abstract: to evaluate the effects from two lipid sources (soybean oil and coconut oil) and of four energy levels (3350, 3450, 3550 and 3650 kcal/kg ration) on performance from 60 to 100 kg boars, eighty animals were used. the experimental design of randomized blocks with a factorial arrangement of 2 x 4 (sources x energy levels), with five replications of two animals per box, was used. experimental diets formulated on the basis of maize, soybean meal and vitaminic and mineral supplement were feed ad libitum until the end of the experimental period when animals reached 100.40 ± 5.67 kg average weight . there was no effect of the digestible energy (de) level on the daily feed intake neither on the daily weight gain; however, these parameters were influenced by the energy source and the best results obtained with the use of the coconut oil. the feed:gain ratio was influenced in a quadratic way by the de levels, when using the coconut oil. no effects of the soybean oil were observed on feed:gain ratio. the efficiency of the energy use for weight gain was improved in a quadratic way when using the coconut oil and linearly worsened when using the soybean oil in the diets. the digestible energy intake was not influenced by changing in the de levels. the daily intake of lysine was not influenced by the de levels, although it was higher when the coconut oil was used as lipidic source. diets with coconut oil as lipidic source showed the best results of weight gain. the best value of feed:gain ratio of the animals that received diets with coconut oil was estimated in level of 3583 kcal.

Abstract: the objective of this work was to evaluate diets fed from 14 to 42 days of age on piglets performance and carcass composition. twenty-eight crossbred litters (landrace x large white) were full fed four types of diets: two simple and two complex. in the weaning time, at 21 days of age, four animals (two barrows and two gilts) were transferred to a nursery and allotted to metallic cages, where they continued to be full fed with diets. eight-four animals, 21 animals from each treatment (seven animals at 14 days and 14 animals at 42 days of age), were slaughtered to determine the protein and fat deposition rates in the carcass. a randomized block design with seven replicates per treatment was used. from 14 to 21 days of age, the daily feed intake (ddi) was almost nil. after weaning, the highest ddi and daily weight gain (dwg) was observed in piglets fed complex and simple diets, which had higher protein and lysine level (19 and 1.25%) than those fed simple diets with 16 and 0.80% of crude protein and lysine, respectively. the simple and complex diets with the same levels of crude protein, lysine and digestible energy produced similar performance results. the reduction of the dietary crude protein level decreased the performance of piglets weaned at 21 days of age.

Abstract: the objective of this trial was to evaluate the effect of different dietary fat sources on intake, digestibility, and plasma urea n in feedlot water buffalo steers. thirteen castrated murrah steers averaging 297±9 kg of body weigh were assigned to one of the following three treatments: no added fat (control), soybean oil or whole soybean in a completely randomized design. the experiment lasted 84 days with three experimental periods of 28 days each. samples of feeds, orts and feces were collected in the last six days of each period for determination of intake. diets were fed twice a day (8 a.m. and 4 p.m.) as total mixed ration and the amount of feed offered was adjusted daily to yield refusals equal to approximately 10 to 20% of intake. intakes of dm and cp were greater in the control compared to treatments supplemented with fat while the opposite was observed for ether extract intake. apparent total tract digestibility of dry mater did not differ across treatments but animals fed the diet containing soybean oil had the lowest fiber digestibility. feeding whole soybean to feedlot steers had no negative impact on fiber digestibility showing that the polyunsaturated fatty acids of this fat source were less available in the rumen. it can be concluded that the higher energy content of diets supplemented with fat sources increased dm intake but feeding soybean oil reduced fiber digestibility in this study.
