Interdisciplinary technology assessment of service robots: the psychological/work science perspective

Abstract: Der Artikel beleuchtet psychologische und arbeitswissenschaftliche Gesichtspunkte bei der Gestaltung und dem Einsatz von Service-Robotern. Zu diesem Zweck werden zun chst Merkmale der Mensch-Roboter-Interaktion dargestellt, um anschlie end Prinzipien der Funktionsteilung zwischen Menschen und Robotern in Arbeitssystemen des Servicebereichs zu diskutieren. Zu berücksichtigen sind hier: (1) die Organisation gesellschaftlicher Arbeit (z. B. unterschiedliche Berufsprofile von Servicekr ften), (2) die Arbeitsaufgaben, die von Menschen und Robotern erbracht werden sollen (z. B. Handhabungs-, überwachungs- oder Entscheidungsaufgaben), sowie (3) die M glichkeiten und Grenzen der informationstechnischen Realisierung solcher Aufgaben (abh ngig z. B. von F higkeiten der Bewegung, Wahrnehmung und Kognition des Roboters). Bei Berücksichtigung dieser drei Gestaltungsperspektiven gelangt man zu Kriterien der Gebrauchstauglichkeit (Usability). In der Diskussion sind hier (arbeitswissenschaftliche) Grunds tze der Mensch-Maschine-Kommunikation, die jedoch künftig durch roboterspezifische Kriterien zu Themen wie Bewegungsf higkeit“oder Beziehungsqualit t“zu erg nzen w ren. Der Artikel endet mit dem Pl doyer, bei der Entwicklung und Anwendung von Servicerobotern arbeitswissenschaftliche Kriterien mit Ans tzen partizipativer Technikgestaltung zu kombinieren.

Abstract: [english] With the implementation of a new licensing regulation for doctors in 2002 the responsibility for assessment was assigned from the German national examination board to the individual faculties, especially so for clinical subjects.39 graded reports have to be issued between the first national board examination (after 2 years of preclinical studies) and the start of the internship (6th year). This new task provides special demands for assessment organization at faculty level. A number of prerequisites have to be met to guarantee adequate quality in assessment. To support faculties in meeting these requirements, guidelines were issued in cooperation with GMA assessment committee and the Baden-Württemberg competence centre for assessment in medical education. Developed on broad consensus these guidelines define quality requirements based on international standards. Their effect on quality improvement in German medical faculty’s examinations in clinical subjects is to be researched concomitantly. [german] Die neue rztliche Approbationsordnung ( AppO) aus dem Jahre 2002 verlagert die Prüfungsverantwortung insbesondere für den klinischen Studienabschnitt auf die Fakult ten:39 benotete Leistungsnachweise sind zwischen der ersten Staatsprüfung und praktischem Jahr zu erstellen. Diese neue Aufgabe stellt besondere Anforderungen an das fakult re Prüfungswesen. Um eine angemessene Qualit t der fakult ren Prüfungen sicher zu stellen, sind eine Reihe von Voraussetzungen zu erfüllen. Die vorliegenden Leitlinien des GMA-Ausschusses Prüfungen und des Kompetenzzentrums Prüfungen des Landes Baden-Württemberg wurden erstellt, um die Fakult ten in dieser Aufgabe zu unterstützen. Die vorliegenden Leitlinien definieren die Qualit tsanforderungen unter Berücksichtigung internationaler Standards und wurden in breitem Konsens entwickelt. Ihre Wirkung im Hinblick auf die Qualit tsverbesserung der fakult ren Prüfungen im klinischen Studienabschnitt in Deutschland soll durch Begleitforschungsprojekte zukünftig dokumentiert werden.
Generating Explanations for Internet-based Business Games

Abstract: It is widely established debriefing in business games is important and influences the students' learning performance. Most games only support game statistics instead of explaining solution paths. We suggest the automatic generation of explanations for internet-mediated business games to improve the debriefing quality. As a proof of concept we developed a prototype of an internet-based auction game embedding an open simulation model and an automatic explanation component helping students and teachers to analyse the decision making process. This paper describes the usefulness of automated explanations and the underlying generic software architecture.

Physiology and Pathophysiology of ClC-K/barttin Channels

Abstract: ClC-K channels form a subgroup of anion channels within the ClC family of anion transport proteins. They are expressed predominantly in the kidney and in the inner ear, and are necessary for NaCl resorption in the loop of Henle and for K+ secretion by the stria vascularis. Subcellular distribution as well as the function of these channels are tightly regulated by an accessory subunit, barttin. Barttin improves the stability of ClC-K channel protein, stimulates the exit from the endoplasmic reticulum and insertion into the plasma membrane and changes its function by modifying voltage-dependent gating processes. The importance of ClC-K/barttin channels is highlighted by several genetic diseases. Dysfunctions of ClC-K channels result in Bartter syndrome, an inherited human condition characterized by impaired urinary concentration. Mutations in the gene encoding barttin, BSND, affect the urinary concentration as well as the sensory function of the inner ear. Surprisingly, there is one BSND mutation that causes deafness without affecting renal function, indicating that kidney function tolerates a reduction of anion channel activity that is not sufficient to support normal signal transduction in inner hair cells. This review summarizes recent work on molecular mechanisms, physiology, and pathophysiology of ClC-K/barttin channels.
Three-dimensional direct laser writing inspired by stimulated-emission-depletion microscopy

Abstract: Three-dimensional direct laser writing has become a well established, versatile, widespread, and even readily commercially available "workhorse" of nano- and micro-technology. However, its lateral and axial spatial resolution is inherently governed by Abbe's diffraction limitation - analogous to optical microscopy. In microscopy, stimulated-emission-depletion approaches have lately circumvented Abbe's barrier and lateral resolutions down to 5.6 nm using visible light have been achieved. In this paper, after very briefly reviewing our previous efforts with respect to translating this success in optical microscopy to optical lithography, we present our latest results regarding resolution improvement in the lateral as well as in the much more relevant axial direction. The structures presented in this paper set a new resolution-benchmark for next-generation direct-laser-writing optical lithography. In particular, we break the lateral and the axial Abbe criterion for the first time.
Non-hereditary Minimum Deep Coalescence trees

Abstract: One of the goals of phylogenetic research is to find the species tree describing the evolutionary history of a set of species. But the trees derived from geneti data with the help of tree inference methods are gene trees that need not coincide with the species tree. This can for example happen when so-called deep coalescence events take place. It is also known that species trees can differ from their most likely gene trees. Therefore, as a means to find the species tree, it has been suggested to use subtrees of the gene trees, for example triples, and to puzzle them together in order to find the species tree. In this paper, we will show that this approach may lead to wrong trees regarding the minimum deep coalescence criterion (MDC). In particular, we present an example in which the optimal MDC tree is unique, but none of its triple subtrees fulfills the MDC criterion. In this sense, MDC is a non-hereditary tree reconstruction method.
