Abstract: This paper is derived from a more extensive investigation into different characteristics of genderrelated occupations as compared to gender-mixed occupations (Ibá ez, 2008). In the present study, we observe that men and women are treated differently depending on whether they are in a maledominated or female-dominated occupation. Secondly, we analyse the extent to which opting for gender-segregated occupations may be more or less deleterious depending on the gender of the employee. For this study we used multinomial and binomial logit regression to analyse three databases: the 2001 Census, the Labour Force Survey (EPA-02) and the Survey on Salary Structures (EES-02). The results show that, in general, women in male job environments and men in female environments are better situated and receive higher labour rewards than wage-earners in own-sex occupations. However, raising the educational level required for certain jobs, as well as intervention in the public sector where women tend to occupy male occupations, seem to be two ways of counteracting this phenomenon.

Abstract: introduction. it is well known that early adverse experiences act as a risk factor in the development of various psychopathologies in close association with functional prefrontal abnormalities. however, it is not known if such hostile experiencies impair the neuronal development in the prefrontal cortex. in the present study we analyzed the long-term effects of isolated-induced changes on both, anxiety behavior and neuronal development in the medial prefrontal cortex. methods. sprague-dawley albino rats were reared from weaning either in isolation (ic, n=24) or in social groups (sc, n=22) during thirty consecutive days (p21-p51) and their "anxiogenic profile" was evaluated. then, half of the animals of both groups were sacrificed for neuronal studies. the remaining isolated rats were housed under social conditions (ic-sc) for thirty additional days (p55-p85), and neurobehavioral parameters were similarly quantified. results. the results obtained indicate that isolated animals displayed an anxiogenic profile in the elevated plus maze, associated with a remarkable neural impairment. furthermore, resocialization of isolation-reared rats for further thirty days neither reverse anxious behavior nor neuronal impairment. conclusions. these data suggest that early adverse experiences, induced by the social isolation model, alter prefrontal neural development in a relatively permanent way, in close association with anxiety traits

Abstract: Introducción. Abstract: In recent years, new analytical tools have allowed researchers to extract historical information contained in molecular data, which has fundamentally transformed our understanding of processes ruling biological invasions. However, the use of these new analytical tools has been largely restricted to studies of terrestrial organisms despite the growing recognition that the sea contains ecosystems that are amongst the most heavily affected by biological invasions, and that marine invasion histories are often remarkably complex. Here, we studied the routes of invasion and colonisation histories of an invasive marine invertebrate Microcosmus squamiger (Ascidiacea) using microsatellite loci, mitochondrial DNA sequence data and 11 worldwide populations. Discriminant analysis of principal components, clustering methods and approximate Bayesian computation (ABC) methods showed that the most likely source of the introduced populations was a single admixture event that involved populations from two genetically differentiated ancestral regions - the western and eastern coasts of Australia. The ABC analyses revealed that colonisation of the introduced range of M. squamiger consisted of a series of non-independent introductions along the coastlines of Africa, North America and Europe. Furthermore, we inferred that the sequence of colonisation across continents was in line with historical taxonomic records - first the Mediterranean Sea and South Africa from an unsampled ancestral population, followed by sequential introductions in California and, more recently, the NE Atlantic Ocean. We revealed the most likely invasion history for world populations of M. squamiger, which is broadly characterized by the presence of multiple ancestral sources and non-independent introductions within the introduced range. The results presented here illustrate the complexity of marine invasion routes and identify a cause-effect relationship between human-mediated transport and the success of widespread marine non-indigenous species, which benefit from stepping-stone invasions and admixture processes involving different sources for the spread and expansion of their range.

Abstract: This article aims to analyze some of the methodological key principles to study employment competences. After reviewing the importance of the analysis of competences and the problem of their identifications, the article focuses on the empirical analysis of two basic dimensions of competences: its utility for the positions occupied by graduates, and the adjustments and mismatches between the education received at the university and the one required for the job. This analysis leads us to the conclusion that we should stay away from generalizations, which are all too frequent, simplifying and distorting reality, since both the utility of competences and the educational matches or mismatches vary to a large extent, depending on the concrete qualifications and the type of jobs that graduates obtain.

Abstract: We have recently detected an error in our article [1], concerning the application of the Ln RH formula to our microsatellite data. This necessitates some changes in the results and figures presented in the "Testing for positive selection during laboratory adaptation" results section. Here we provide the corrected data and discuss its implications for our overall findings.Corrected Ln RH values comparing generations 3 and 14 remain significantly different between loci in both TW and AR populations (one-way ANOVA; p < 0.001). Standardized Ln RH values for microsatellite locus dsub14 fall outside the 95% confidence interval of the standard normal distribution for AR1 (p < 0.03). AR2 and AR3 populations show a marginally significant deviation from expectation of neutrality (p < 0.06 for AR2; p < 0.07 for AR3). But AR populations present less consistent indications of positive selection between generations 3 and 14 than previously indicated [1]. In addition, standardized Ln RH values for dsub14 between generations 3 and 14 in TW populations no longer differ significantly from neutral expectation, despite the fact that the Ln RH values for these populations remain high (Fig. 1).Between generations 14 and 40, corrected Ln RH values are not significantly different across loci either for TW or AR populations (one-way ANOVA; p > 0.05), though they were significant in our previous analysis for the AR data. Standardized Ln RH values for dsub14 fall outside the 95% confidence interval for AR2 (p < 0.04) and outside the 90% marginal confidence interval for AR1 (p < 0.06) – see Fig. 2, in contrast with the significant deviations previously reported for all AR populations [1].A new analysis that includes the wider range of generations analyzed (40 versus 3, Fig. 3) indicates a significant deviation pattern for locus dsub14 in all AR populations (p < 0.02 for AR1; p < 0.03 for AR2 and AR3), the TW3 population (p < 0.03), and a marginally significant deviation for TW1 (p < 0.07).
