Cambios en los modos de investigación en genética médica y evolución de las reflexiones éticas
Martínez Picabea de Giorgiutti,Elba;
BAG. Journal of basic and applied genetics , 2010,
Abstract: scientific and technologic developments in the second half of the 20th century brought along considerable changes in the ethical debate and in the regulations pertinent to medical genetics. early scientists, in the 1960s, were concerned about confidentiality of information in what regards family counseling. innovations, in the last years, in various areas such as prenatal diagnosis, molecular genetics applied to preventive medicine, gene therapy, and even pharmacogenetics, had a profound impact on the subject matter and scope of the ethical thinking and debate. for instance, informed consent and confidentiality rules became particularly important in medical genetics. the unique sensitivity of this topic stems from the fact that the study subject is no longer an individual but an entire family. controversial issues still unresolved are the management of dna collections (banks) and other genetic samples. also, still unsettled are themes pertaining to the risks inherent to genomic determinations leading to predictions of probability of future disease, and the moral impact of stem cell therapy requiring embryonic destruction. international or national ethic norms, or mandates pertaining to a variety of jurisdictions, cannot, must not, be ignored by anybody working in the field, the same as it would be done, for example, with regard to the common law pertaining to other endeavors. this compliance is even more imperative in regard to protocols involving humans as subjects of investigation.

Random Route and Quota Sampling: Do They Offer Any Advantage over Probably Sampling Methods?  [PDF]
Vidal Díaz de Rada, Valentín Martínez Martín
Open Journal of Statistics (OJS) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ojs.2014.45038

The aim of this paper is to compare sample quality across two probability samples and one that uses probabilistic cluster sampling combined with random route and quota sampling within the selected clusters in order to define the ultimate survey units. All of them use the face-to-face interview as the survey procedure. The hypothesis to be tested is that it is possible to achieve the same degree of representativeness using a combination of random route sampling and quota sampling (with substitution) as it can be achieved by means of household sampling (without substitution) based on the municipal register of inhabitants. We have found such marked differences in the age and gender distribution of the probability sampling, where the deviations exceed 6%. A different picture emerges when it comes to comparing the employment variables, where the quota sampling overestimates the economic activity rate (2.5%) and the unemployment rate (8%) and underestimates the employment rate (3.46%).

Primary Care Practitioners’ Views on the Use of Proton Pump Inhibitors Associated with Alginate-Antacids for Better Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease Symptom Control: Results of a National Survey in Spain  [PDF]
Carlos Martín de Argila, Mercedes Ricote Belinchón, Agustín Albillos Martínez
Open Journal of Gastroenterology (OJGas) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ojgas.2014.410048
Abstract: Background: Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a prevalent disease in Western countries. Despite effective treatment modalities, in some patients total symptom control is not achieved in clinical practice. A cross-sectional study was designed to assess primary care practitioners’ views on the effectiveness of proton pump inhibitors (PPI) as monotherapy in the control of the most common symptoms of GERD (heartburn and regurgitation), as well as to determine the level of implementation of the “combined therapy” (PPI + alginate-antacids). Methods: A questionnaire on different aspects of the management of GERD was completed by 1491 primary care physicians. The questionnaire was composed of 11 close-ended questions with one-choice answer, with a total of 52 items, covering the main data from patients presenting with GERD. Results: Treatment with PPI alone was mostly considered insufficient for the control of GERD symptoms. The combined treatment of PPI + alginate-antacids was used for 37% and 21% of physicians for treating heart-burn and regurgitation, respectively. A better control of symptoms, an increase in the onset of action and to reduce nocturnal acid breakthrough were the most frequently argued reasons for the use of PPI + alginate-antacids. A high percentage of participants believed that treatment with PPI alone was insufficient for the control of symptoms and 39.8% of physicians reported the persistence of heartburn, 38.6% the persistence of regurgitation and 43.2% the persistence of epigastric discomfort in more than 25% of their patients treated with PPI as monotherapy. The most common schedule for the use of the antacid medication was on demand. Conclusions: Spanish primary care physicians consider that a high proportion of GERD patients continue to suffer from symptoms during PPI treatment alone. Ondemand “combined therapy” (PPI + antacid) is considered an efficient option to control reflux symptoms still troublesome in patients with PPI treatment alone.

Abstract: from his theory of communicative action (1981) until his later political writings, the philosopher jürgen habermas has put on the juridical language the main responsibility of describing the essence of civil society. that's why the habermasian analysis becomes a defence of a capitalistic conception of the actual society, turning around a strict notion of individual.
Efecto de la ticlopidina en los cambios morfológicos de cultivos endoteliales inducidos por la interacción endotoxina plaqueta
Martínez de Lima,Nina;
Revista de la Facultad de Medicina , 2007,
Abstract: induced by lipopolysaccharide is inhibited by ticlopidina. we investigated if ticlopidina could modify the effect of the lipopolysaccharide -platelets interaction, on endothelial cell morphology. the endothelial cells were isolated from rat embryos dermal microvasculature. the cultures were incubated with: lipopolysaccharide; lipopolysaccharide + platelet rich plasma; lipopolysaccharide + platelet rich plasma from rats treated with ticlopidina; lipopolysaccharide + ticlopidina solution; lipopolysaccharide + control platelet rich plasma + ticlopidina; ticlopidina solution. the results evidenced citoplasmatic alterations with lipopolysaccharide. this cellular damage was strengthen by platelet rich plasma; however, in the presence of platelet rich plasma from rats pretreated with ticlopidina, these changes did not become present. we concluded that ticlopidina suppresses some derived adverse effects of the lipopolysaccharide -platelet interaction on the endothelium, thus ticlopidina could have a therapeutic potential on septic shock
La deconstrucción del concepto de propiedad: Una aproximación intercultural a los derechos territoriales indígenas
Martínez de Bringas,Asier;
Utopìa y Praxis Latinoamericana , 2009,
Abstract: the objective of this study is to design contents for the threefold topic ?indigenous peoples-habitat-territory,? from a decolonizing perspective. from this starting point, the study confronts the complicated challenge of intercultural dialogue. the work was structured in four sections: a) terminological clarifications regarding the subject; what can we understand by territoriality, natural resources and biodiversity within the logical framework of the indigenous peoples, and how these same terms are understood differently by western law; b) critical analyses of indigenous claims in the multilateral environmental treaties that have emerged lately, from the perspective of indigenous peoples? rights; c) controversial central elements in this exciting intercultural dialogue, such as indigenous territoriality; d) an analysis of the jurisprudence that has been developed by the inter-american human rights court and commission, aware that this may be a first advancement toward intercultural law, latent in the different reports and decisions made by these two juridical institutions.
Economía ambiental y ordenación del territorio
Pablo Martínez de Anguita
Ecosistemas , 2004,
