Revista Espa?ola de Documentación Científica , 2012,
Abstract: This study analyses the production and supervision of doctoral theses on advertising in Spanish universities. Universities with Faculties of Communication or Information Science have been included, as have any others that had theses on advertising and in which the supervisor figures expressly. We worked with 260 doctoral dissertations from the period ranging the creation of the BA in Advertising in Spain in 1971 until 2010. Bibliometric techniques were applied for performing the different analyses. During the study we focussed on the evolution of the annual production of doctoral theses, the distribution of production among the universities, and also among the faculties or departments responsible for doctoral theses. Finally, we analysed the scholarly production of the supervisors themselves, as well as the levels of collaboration or cooperation during the supervision. A total of two hundred and fourteen supervisors were studied; twentyfive theses had more than one supervisor.
Does renal replacement therapy increase mortality in the ICU?
David Pestaa
Critical Care , 2011, DOI: 10.1186/cc10071
Abstract: A recent retrospective study published in Critical Care has questioned the use of RRT in critically ill patients, including those with severe AKI [4]. Compared with conservative treatment, RRT patients showed a higher mortality. The indication for RRT was at the discretion of the physician, and patients receiving RRT presented higher severity and renal impairment scores. After multivariate analysis correcting for severity of illness (Acute Physiology and Acute Chronic Health Evaluation II score and Sequential Organ Failure Assessment score), mortality remained higher in RRT patients. In a multivariate analysis in septic shock patients, however, we observed that both severity scores are not related to mortality, contrary to the maximum Sequential Organ Failure Assessment score [5]. The decision of starting RRT in many patients during their ICU stay may have been related to evolving factors not included in the analysis (worsening severity, overload, progressing hypoxemia, and so forth), which affect mortality but are not detected in the initial snapshot assessment. For instance, it is inconceivable that anuric patients did not receive RRT. On the other hand, the use of RRT in some patients with mild renal impairment may have increased morbidity. The study underlines the idea that RRT is not necessary in many patients presenting mild AKI in the ICU, but may be misleading if we accept that this therapy is deleterious in general.Monique M Elseviers and Robert L LinsWe appreciate the comments of Dr Pesta?a and understand his concerns about a possible misinterpretation of the results by considering our findings in too general a manner.First, however, we have to rectify that the overall Stuivenberg Hospital Acute Renal Failure results published in this journal did not derive from retrospective observations but from a prospective study of 1,303 AKI patients consecutively admitted to the ICU. Furthermore, disease severity was initially investigated using the Stuivenberg Hospit
La reforma ortográfica alemana
Cristina Pestaa Castro
------------------------------------------------------ The German Spelling Reform. In 1996, with the primary objective of simplifying German spelling and making it easier to learn, without substantially changing the basic rules of German, the so-called "German Ortography Reform" was launched. It could not be fully implemented until ten years later, since it was very controversial from the very beginning and not only because of the changes that were to be introduced, but also because of the way they would be carried out.
Martínez Martínez,María;
Cuadernos de historia de Espa?±a , 2005,
Abstract: historical development of the "encomienda santiaguista" of aledo during the late medieval period. this fortress-village, placed on the front line of the murcia-granada border, consolidated a defensive system that will lose its reason to exist after the conquest of granada in 1492. the "libro de visitas de la orden de santiago" of 1511 and archeological interventions allow the reconstruction of the morphology of the village and of the religious, military and economic spaces of the collective development of this micro-society, which suffered the historical transformations produced during the transition from medieval to modern times.
EL USO DE INDICADORES DE DESEMPE O NORMALIZADOS PARA LA VALORACIóN DE JUGADORES: EL CASO DE LAS ESTADíSTICAS POR MINUTO EN BALONCESTO
J. A. Martínez,L. Martínez
Motricidad : European Journal of Human Movement , 2010,
Palabras Clave: normalización, baloncesto, desempe o, estadísticas ABSTRACT This research empirically tests the hypothesis underlying the use of performance indicators in basketball, when they are normalized using the “per-minute” criterion: There is no association among normalized indicators and the minutes played by each player. This assumption is a necessary requirement in order to compare players using normalized indicators, because if this assumption is not met, then there would be a possible bias in the rankings of each statistical category. We apply several under-used methods in this type of research, such as the analysis of the intra-player variability and the structural equation modelling. Results show that there is no lineal association between the minutes played and the different per-minute normalized categories as: points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks. We discuss implications for sport performance and marketing. Therefore, this study contributes to the advance in one of the growing areas of sports research; such as basketball metrics. Key Words: normalization, basketball, performance, statistics
LAS ACTITUDES HACIA EL SERVICIO DEPORTIVO VARíAN SEGúN EL GRADO DE EXPERIENCIA DEL CONSUMIDOR?
J. A. Martínez,L. Martínez
Motricidad : European Journal of Human Movement , 2010,
ABSTRACT This research has analysed if consumer evaluations of a sports service, manifested by satisfaction and perceived quality, differ to the extent that consumer experience varies. For that purpose, we have achieved three cross-sectional studies on different samples of users of a sports centre. The results show that newer and more experienced customers adjust their expectations in the same way. In addition, perceived quality and satisfaction differs because customers admit that they can be very satisfied with a service, although the service does not reach the highest level of excellence. Moreover, both attitudes are very positive. Satisfaction and quality do not depend on experience, because newer customers do not create illusory expectations about the service. Finally, implications and limitations are discussed. Key Words: Consumer experience; perceived quality; satisfaction; sports services.
Abstract: In this article we approach the analysis and reconstruction of the Puxmarin lineage, which originated in Barcelona and settled in Murcia in the 14 th Century. This lineage is notorious for the high socio-economic status of its members-linked to the urban oligarchy-and specially of Pedro Puxmarin, who in 1504 was in charge of financing the tuiton at the Estudio de Lerida (Lerida University), the institution in which the chaplain-to-be of his private chapel were educated.
A stakeholder assessment of basketball player evaluation metrics
JOSE A. MARTíNEZ,LAURA MARTíNEZ
Journal of Human Sport and Exercise , 2011,
Abstract: In this research we examined the opinions of basketball stakeholders regarding several questions of special interests to valuate players. Players, coaches, agents, journalists, editors, bloggers, researchers, analysts, fans and chairs participated in this macro-research. After analysing their opinions using the content analysis methodology, we found that current player evaluation systems are insufficient to fulfill the expectations of stakeholders regarding the definition of value, because they fail to rate intangibles. In addition, the importance of qualitative thinking is prominent and should be considered in valuating such intangibles. The current system of valuation used in Euroleague and Spanish ACB League (Ranking) is acknowledged as deficient, but stakeholders think that other advanced metrics do not significantly outperform Ranking. Implications for management, decision making and marketing in basketball are finally discussed.
Capitalizing on the advantages of the Latin American EAP situation: Using authentic and specific materials in EAP writing instruction
Iliana A. Martínez
Ibérica , 2011,
Abstract: This paper describes a situation that suggests an optimistic future for periphery scholars, particularly from Latin America. First it shows a positive evolution of publications in English in Latin America, which appears to be associated to the concomitant evolution of postgraduate programmes. Then, it is argued that such evolution could be improved by a form of EAP instruction that capitalizes on the special characteristics of the Latin American situation, particularly the highly specific needs of learners, the common Latinate L1, the possibility of having homogeneous groups in terms of fields, and the limited set of genres used by researchers in this context. Such features could be exploited to the learners’ advantage through the use of authentic and specific materials. Both authenticity and specificity will increase motivation and reduce comprehension problems, while allowing participants to contribute their knowledge of science to the course.
Urban Public Economics Review , 2009,
