The Temporal Variability of the Freshwater Discharge and Water Levels at the Patos Lagoon, Brazil  [PDF]
Wiliam Correa Marques
International Journal of Geosciences (IJG) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/ijg.2012.34076
Abstract: The direct influence of freshwater discharge along the coastal regions is observed in several processes following a wide spectrum on spatial and temporal variability. The knowledge of relative importance of this physical forcing is fundamental by the correct management of the coastal sites and the understanding of consequences associated with processes of climatic order is one point deserves some investigation. The major part of the studies in the Patos Lagoon, located in the southernmost part of Brazil, is limited to investigate the effects in synoptic time scales. In this way, the objective of this study is to investigate the long term variability pattern of the Patos Lagoon discharge and water levels indentifying long term trends through wavelet analysis. The results indicated that El Ni?o (La Ni?a) events promote the intensification (decrease) of the freshwater intensity in the principal river tributaries of the Patos Lagoon following scales from 16 to 120 months (from 1.3 to 10 years). The most energetic cycle is centered in periods of 64 months (5.3 years). The longer events reflect the long term response of the non linear dynamics in Equatorial Pacific changing the precipitation pattern, principally during winter and at the end of spring and early autumn. The non-linear long term trend indicates a pattern with values of discharge normally above (below) the mean after (before) 1970’s. An increasing trend starting after 1970 possibly indicates a longer term cycle influencing the interannual variability of the Patos Lagoon discharge. The seasonality is maintained in climatic monthly means obtained after and before 1970’s, but, with mean increase around 364 m3·s?1 in freshwater discharge with reduced amplitude of the seasonal cycle.
Beyond Gangsta: Hip-Hop, Skate Culture and Web Culture in the Music of Tyler, the Creator  [PDF]
Gustavo Souza Marques
Art and Design Review (ADR) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/adr.2015.31002
Abstract: This article came from the homonymous PhD proposal submitted and accepted by Music School of University College Cork (UCC, Ireland) to be started in September 2015 under the guidance of Dr. J. Griffith Rollefson. It aims to point out and discuss the articulations made by rapper, producer, actor and video director Tyler Okonma, known by the stage name Tyler, the Creator, to shift, but also maintain, some frames of gangsta rap discourse. Noticed by his rape fantasies lyrics and ultraviolent shouts, most present in his two first albums, Tyler has been acclaimed for his notable musical talent but criticized for its misogynist themes. Despite this outrageous aspect of its music, his confessional and often self-depreciating lyrics have been a novelty for constant self-pride and powerful hip-hop lyrics. Moreover, it works as a compensation for his aggressiveness since it could be seen as a demonstration of fragility rather than sexual domination. The way he uses hip-hop mentality, skate culture nihilism and Web 2.0 platforms to promote his art has made him one of the most prominent hip-hop artists from 21st century. Based on related authors on hip-hop topics like gangsta, misogyny, media and racial stereotypes this article discuss the ways in which Tyler, the Creator reflects but also denies the most known and commented frames of rap music.
Strongyloides stercoralis in an immunocompetent adult: An unexpected cause of weight lost  [PDF]

Case Reports in Clinical Medicine (CRCM) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/crcm.2013.27112

Strongyloides stercoralis infects at least 100 million humans worldwide each year, but its prevalence is underestimated. It is endemic in hot and humid climates as well as resource poor countries with inadequate sanitary conditions. The rise of international travel and immigration has a positive impact in strongyloidiasis. Due to its unique auto infection life-cycle, Strongyloides may lead to chronic infections remaining undetected for decades. Strongyloidiasis is most often asymptomatic but it has a wide range of clinical presentations. The two most severe forms of strongyloidiasis are hyperinfection and disseminated syndromes. These occur most often in patients with impaired cell mediated immunity. A 42-year-old immunocompetent man presented with chronic watery diarrhea, malaise, upper abdominal pain, anorexia and weight lost. Strongyloides stercoralis was identified in stool samples and duodenal biopsy. The patient was successfully treated with albendazole. The authors report a case of strongyloidiasis hyperinfection in an immunocompetent host 20 years away from an endemic area and make a literature review.

Directional Moving Target Indication: A Novel SAR Ambiguity Function for Traffic Monitoring
Paulo Marques
Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering , 2012, DOI: 10.1155/2012/357034
Abstract: This paper presents and evaluates a novel SAR ambiguity function for traffic monitoring. The novelty consists in introducing the capability to discriminate targets moving in a predefined direction of interest, reducing the contribution of traffic moving in undesired directions. Experimental results show that the modified SAR ambiguity function provides better results than the traditional methodology and may, therefore, be useful for civil traffic monitoring using single-channel synthetic aperture radar data.
Os deletérios impactos da crise nuclear no Jap?o
Marques, Paulo;
Estudos Avan?ados , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-40142012000100022
Abstract: this work reports the severe nuclear incident occurred in japan on march 11, 2011, due a earthquake followed by tsunami, where three of six existing reactors in daiichi-fukushima were damaged. the explosions with releasing of radioactive materials to environment have been discussed. it has shown the harmful effects of radiations to the exposed human being. besides, the existence of the main impediment of the nuclear electric generation represented by production of non-disposable atomic waste has been discussed.
?Lideran?a?, ?proceder? e ?igualdade?: uma etnografia das rela??es políticas no Primeiro Comando da Capital
Etnográfica , 2010,
Abstract: based on the transcription ipsis verbis of the statement of marcos willians herbas camacho (marcola) by the parliamentary commission of inquiry on weapons traffic and also on ethnographic data on the ?proceder? and political relations between prisoners in s?o paulo, brazil, obtained among current or ex-prisoners, their families, and prison employees, i want to point out the instauration of a complex difficulty of communication between (me,) the enquirers and the inquired around the notion of ?leadership?. betting in the reflexive potential resulting from the mapping of this regional system of struggle, where lines of force are the (auto)descriptions about ?leadership? - that present different conceptualizations and different judgments - i intended to make an indicator of the complexity degree of social life in prisons ?of the pcc?, in short, an analogous complexity.
Possibilidade, compossibilidade e incompossibilidade em Leibniz
Marques, Edgar;
Kriterion: Revista de Filosofia , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-512X2004000100008
Abstract: this paper aims to make evident that there is a problem concerning the origin of incompossibility in leibniz 's metaphysics. it presents, in a second moment, a solution to this problem.
Observa??es críticas acerca da no??o Leibniziana de decretos divinos possíveis
Marques, Edgar;
Kriterion: Revista de Filosofia , 2001, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-512X2001000200005
Abstract: this paper presents firstly a conceptual reconstruction of the reasons that lead leibniz, in his correspondance with arnauld, to introduce the concept of possible divine decrees. in a second moment, it develops some arguments in order to demonstrate that the introduction of this concept makes inconsistent the global architetonic of the leibnizian metaphysics.

Marques, Edgar;
Kriterion: Revista de Filosofia , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-512X2010000100001
Abstract: in this article, i sustain, against robert adam's interpretation, the thesis that leibniz, in the discussion with fardella (1690), adopts a realistic ontology, according to which live beings, instead of souls, are substances.
