Social, environmental and economic aspects of the organic agriculture –case study in Verê, State Of Paraná, Brazil

Abstract: The organic agriculture consist in a holistic system of production management which foment and improvement the agroecosystem health and, in specific the biodiversity, the cycles and biological activities, reason because this work had as objective analyze the economic environmental, social and political factors, that conditioning the organic production systems evolution, limiting their diffusion in function of the existent potential. For that, were employed the bibliographic and field research methodology applied in 10 agricultural proprieties located in Verê county, at Paraná State, with the organic food cultivation. The results demonstrated that detaching the vegetables which united with other products are totally commercialized in the municipal district and region. Was possible to verify that the production and commercialization of organic food comes obtaining force and achieving each time more space and, for a greater expansion is necessary that the consumer acquire conscience about the importance of the acquisition of products that are derived of the organic agriculture. Also, is necessary establishing specific public politeness, in the federal, state and municipal extents, which promotes the organic agricultural diffusion. With relation to the certification, the utilization of the life cycle assessment of the organic product showing adequate because consider the production conditions.
Efficiency evaluation of the coagulation/flotation process applied as primary treatment of a poultry slaughterhouse wastewater

Abstract: Abattoirs generate a large amount of wastewater which represents a serious problem due their high levels of organic matter, demanding therefore an important role by the elimination of considerable amounts of pollution charge and conditioning the effluent for the subsequent steps. In this work the effectiveness of the treatment of a poultry slaughterhouse wastewater through the coagulation/flocculation followed by induced air flotation in laboratory scale was evaluated. Three commercial coagulants: SF-PIX, CF-PIX and PAC; one coagulant developed at Energy and Environmental Laboratory –LEMA of Federal University of Santa Catarina- UFSC (SF-LEMA), with anionic floculant FLONEX9073 were evaluated. The maximum removal efficiencies achieved for turbidity, suspended solids, oil and grease, chemical oxygen demand, phosphorous and nitrate were: 97%, 96%, 90%, 82%, 98% and 90%, respectively. SF-PIX showed the best results, decreasing meaningfully the pollution charge of the effluent. The treatment process employed showed the great effectiveness for effluent conditioning, achieving high reduction of physical-chemical parameters, detaching the high reduction of the nutrient charge.
Lead remotion of automotive batteries recycling industry wastewater by the aquatic macrofit eichhornia crassipes

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the efficiency of the lead absorption by the aquatic macrofit Eichhornia crassipes in the wastewater treatment of an automotive batteries recycling industry located at county of Paula de Freitas, state of Paraná, Brazil. For that, the relation of humid green mass of water hyacinth by solution volume was optimized and, in follow the method was employed in the industrial wastewater treatment. The results permitted to conclude that the lead and other metals (Fe, Cu, Zn e Cr) absorption efficiency depends straightly of the water hyacinth mass (g) by solution volume (L), being 40 and 50 g L-1 the more efficient relations showing equivalents results in wastewaters containing until 30 mg L-1 of contaminant. Factors as pH and temperature in the analyzed values no had an expressive influence. For the treatment of wastewater contaminated by lead of the small and mean industries which recycle automotive batteries, the utilization of water hyacinth is practicable in the optimized conditions. It′s necessary a refined study for the definition of the best alternative of treatment/final disposal of the water hyacinth biomass after the wastewater treatment.Key-words: green house, composting, stabilization lagoon, heavy metal.
Swine breeding activity influence on the water quality on a agricultural microbasin in southwest of Parana State

Abstract: This work had as objective evaluate the influence of the swine breeding activity on the quality of the superficial water resources in the Mandurim River microbasin in Francisco Beltrao, state of Paraná, Brazil. For this purpose were selected two points of monitoring: the first located upstream close to the springs, choused because represent the area which don’t receive contribution of swine wastes and, the second point, located downstream, close to the mouth of the river, immediately after of the last swine breeding property of the watershed. The water collects were realized with monthly frequency, since 11/04/2003 to 07/26/2005, were analyzed the parameters: thermotolerants coliform, dissolved oxygen, BOD, COD, pH, P, N, NO2, NO3, Cu e Zn and the results were confronted with the standards established by CONAMA 357/05 Resolution. The result of the trophic state index reached 32.3 because the water of the watershed was classified as oligotrophic. The water quality index reached 103.63, an optimum water quality. Even though the water being adequate to the legal parameters, some parameters, as thermotolerant coliform, which reached a maximum value of 5.000 NMP 100 mL-1, BOD and COD indicated water contamination downstream of the swine breeding activity, in some periods of the year, demonstrating the importance of continuous monitoring.
Support capacity evaluation to swine breeding activity in a watershed located in the southwest of the Parana State aiming to the prevention of the environmental degradation

Abstract: The work has the objective to evaluate the environmental viability of the swine breeding activity in the Mandurim River watershed located in the Southwest area of the Parana State,Brazil, through the physics aptness verification under the environmental aspect, through the soil support capacity to absorbs the swine wastes as fertilizer, respecting the pertinent rules. For performance this research, were utilized cartographic materials and specific softwares, through the geographic information systems (GIS) were elaborated the thematic maps of declivity, raise, soil use and occupation. The mains results permitted conclude that the able area for receive the swine wastes without compromise the environmental quality is 847 ha and the watershed presents sustainability for the swine breeding activity.
Performance analysis of upflow anaerobic sludge blanket reactors in the treatment of swine wastewater

Abstract: The adoption of confined systems for swine production have been increased the use of water in these installations and, consequently, an each time greater production of wastewater. Diagnostics have been showed a high level of water pollution due the waste material release on lands without criterions and in waters without previous treatment. The utilization of anaerobic process to reduce the liquid residues pollutant power has been detaching because beyond reducing the environmental pollution they allow to recover the energetic potential as fertilizer and biogas. In this work the performance of two real scale upflow anaerobic sludge blanket reactors treating swine wastewater were evaluated through operational system analysis, physical-chemical parameters of pollution and biogas production measurement. The results permitted to verify upflow rate speeds above of the value for which these reactors were designed and hydraulic residence times under of the design value. These factors affected negatively the treatment and had reflected on the law removal of the physical-chemical parameters and biogas production. The maximum removal efficiencies reached for TSS, BOD and COD were 72,5%, 34,7% and 40,0%, respectively. The mean rate of biogas liberation was 0,011 m-3 m-2.h-1.
Analyisis of the tobacco production impacts on the environment, tobacco farmer′s health and environmental management iniciatives of the tobacco industry

Abstract: The present work had as objective analyses the tobacco cultivation of the environment, health and life quality of the tobacco farmers, including aspects related with the pesticides utilization, individual protection equipments (IPE), health questions and other risks. For this, was utilized the methodology of bibliographical research and the field research, involving the last, 10 tobacco farmers located in Verê-Pr. The results point that the small farmers choose the tobacco cultivation in function of the lucratively obtained, which don’t will be reached with other cultivations due their small proprieties. Although the reported problems, in general, the tobacco farmers don’t present a appropriate level of conscious about the hazards which they are exposed, no associating, sometimes, certain problems to the tobacco cultivation. However, with the environment preservation and the environmental question obtaining more importance in Brazil, was possible to verify that the tobacco industry, also have being promoting and divulging some initiatives of environmental management.Keywords: sustainable development, pesticides, green tobacco disease.
Analysis of the time-efficiency evolution of two agro-industrial wastes in the aerobic composting process

Abstract: The inappropriate disposal of industrial wastes, including the agro-industrial wastes is one of the most critical environmental problems presently. The present work aims to obtaining of an organic compound through aerobic composting technique, utilizing the mesophilic temperature, in open environment, with slow decomposition process, a privileged option of treatment, permitting the co-process of several residues. Were utilized agro-industrial wastes of the green line, cereal wastes, poultry manure-straw mix, egg incubatory; in two treatments with distinct ratios. The compound obtained showed adequate characteristics however a low C/N ratio, which is not ideal by the large amount of N losses by volatization.

Abstract: the aim of this study was to evaluate the application possibility of tabular cusum control charts in the quality control of chemical variables in surface water. it was performed bibliographic and field research to collect water samples from 2003 to 2009, totaling 30 samples, some monthly and others semi-annual in order to observe the variables that regulate water quality. it was found that these charts may be applied to control the quality of river water; showing to be effective in the perception of changes during the process, especially for small samples (n=1) which there is no repetition as in this research. it was also concluded that the mandurim river does not presents significant levels of pollution.

Abstract: this article seeks to define what would be the order of gender studies within the brazilian academic setting today. given three sets of distinct reflections, the article tries to explore gender initially understood as a "theme" and a "concept" to subvert it and postulate gender today as a new scientific field. these three sets of reflections refer to: 1) the place of the current art of gender and feminist studies in brazilian academic reflections; 2) the consequent attempt to explain and delimit the theoretical conceptions in these studies, which includes the objective of going beyond a mere concept, tool or analytic construction, establishing a new field of study in social and human sciences and even a new epistemology in the sciences; and 3) the discussions of the implications and consequences that such an initiative would have on the sciences, in addition to bringing contributions to a feminist epistemology as well as postulating a science with a multicultural and emancipating character.
