Cidadania, educa o e responsabilidade social: falácias gastas em um discurso retórico?

Abstract: The pressing questioning in the present work is established in the proposal of use of the words as instruments of changes, as foundations of the yearnings of a society in transition. The proposal of an educational work that unites the social responsibility to the citizenship demands clarity regarding the social political objectives that guides it, of the vision of world and the concepts of education, citizenship, man, world, knowledge, culture, among others. As to form this professional it consists of one of the educational quandaries and more, it is questioned existence of professionals of the education enabled to exert this formation. The proposal here in conjugating, citizenship, education and social responsibility, of a first analysis consists of the questioning of the rhetorical speech through the presentation of the concepts for then considering the use of such justinian codes as transforming instruments and proportioners. To educate, to form the responsible citizen I obtain and with the society, critic and asset, whichever the society of the future. O questionamento premente no presente trabalho funda-se na proposta de utiliza o dos vocábulos como instrumentos de mudan as, como alicerces dos anseios de uma sociedade em transi o. A proposta de um trabalho educacional que alie a responsabilidade social à cidadania exige clareza a respeito dos objetivos sócio-políticos que a norteiam, da vis o de mundo e dos conceitos de educa o, cidadania, homem, mundo, conhecimento, cultura, entre outros. Como formar este profissional consiste em um dos dilemas educacionais e mais, questiona-se a existência de profissionais da educa o capacitados para exercer esta forma o. A proposta aqui em conjugar, cidadania, educa o e responsabilidade social, em uma primeira análise consiste no questionamento do discurso retórico através da apresenta o dos conceitos para ent o propor a utiliza o de tais institutos como instrumentos transformadores e viabilizadores. Educar, para formar o cidad o responsável consigo e com a sociedade, crítico e ativo, seja qual for a sociedade do futuro.

Abstract: The present study aimed to investigate the toxicity of the herbicide GESAPREME, belonged to the Triazines group (the active principle is atrazine = 500gL-1), on the juveniles of the fish species Colossoma macropomum (tambaqui). For this purpose, the LC50 and the frequency of micronuclei (MN) in erythrocytes were determined. Fish mortality increased together with the increment in water GESAPREME concentrations. The value of LC50 (96h) was reached in the concentration of 20 mg L-1. After 48h of herbicide exposition, hemorrhages could be noted in the whole body of fish exposed to the concentrations of 20, 22 and 25 mg L-1. The number of micronuclei in erythrocytes increased significantly during the exposition of fish to GESAPREME concentrations of 10, 20 and 30 mg L-1, when compared to the control group. The herbicide action was clearly capable to induce micronuclei formation in the erythrocytes of Colossoma macropomum. These results suggest that cells are seriously damaged in its integrity by the exposition to GESAPREME, due to the high micronuclei incidence observed in erythrocytes. Agribusiness has been expanded in Brazil and the risk of water rivers and aquaculture contamination by xenobiotics agents has been increased. Therefore, the detection of pesticide and their effects on the organisms have been became important studies, since they can predict the impact of these products on live organisms. O objetivo do presente estudo foi investigar a toxicidade do herbicida GESAPREME, pertencente ao grupo das Triazinas (princípio ativo é atrazina = 500gL-1), em Colossoma macropomum juvenis (tambaqui). Para este propósito foram determinados a CL50 e a freqüência de micronúcleos (MN) em eritrócitos. A mortalidade de tambaquis aumentou com o aumento nas concentra es do GESAPREME na água. O valor da CL50 (96h) foi atingido na concentra o de 22 mg L-1. Após 48 horas de exposi o ao herbicida, nas concentra es de 20, 22 e 25 mg L-1, notou-se hemorragias por todo o corpo dos animais. O número de micronúcleos nos eritrócitos aumentou significativamente durante a exposi o dos peixes ao GESAPREME nas concentra es de 10, 20 e 30 mg L-1, quando comparado ao grupo controle. A a o do herbicida foi claramente capaz de induzir a forma o de micronúcleos em Colossoma macropomum. Estes resultados sugerem que as células s o danificadas em sua integridade pela exposi o à atrazina, devido à alta incidência de micronúcleos observada nos eritrócitos. Precocidade, ganho de peso, aumento na produ o de leite, de ovos entre outros, s o necessidade para os produtores que se dedicam à pecuária. Para alimenta o dos animais de produ o, é preciso fornecer ra es concentradas; que s o fontes de proteínas e energia necessárias ao seu bom desempenho. Entretanto, as ra es s o onerosas e isto pode levar os produtores a abandonarem seus projetos de cria o. O preparo de ra es balanceadas pode ser uma solu o para este problema. Os Sistemas de Informa o (SI) podem ser desenvolvidos para possibilitar aos produtores o preparo destas ra es aproveitando alimentos de sua propriedade reduzindo os custos de produ o e como conseqüência, aumentando seus lucros.
Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: Physiological and genetic aspects and the use of physical exercise for diabetes control

Abstract: Type 2 Diabetes mellitus (DM2) is a metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia and cardiovascular dysfunctions that can be controlled with physical exercise, dietary control and pharmacological treatment. Recent research has demonstratedassociations between DM2 and some genetic polymorphisms, especially alterations to the gene that codes for Angiotensin Converting Enzyme (ACE). The purpose of this study was to discuss the pathophysiology of DM2 and the use of physical exercise as a non-pharmacological method for controlling these patients’ glycemia and blood pressure.The relationship between DM2 and polymorphisms of the ACE gene was also covered. The literature search included textbooks in the healthcare field in addition to review articles and original articles found on the databases Pubmed, Scielo and Portal Capes.Keywords used were “blood glucose”, “type 2 diabetes”, “exercise”, “blood pressure” and “ACE gene polymorphism” and their translations in Portuguese. The main subject of this article is the practice of daily exercise, the types and intensities that have proven effective for glycemic and haemodinamic control and possible relationships with the ACE polymorphism, which are currently still tentative, since the evidence of associations canbe strongly influenced by the population studied. The benefits of exercise are unquestionable and the recommended forms are discussed in this review. However the literature is still lacking studies that analyze the effects of physical exercise on diabetics and takeinto account the relationship with genetic aspects. This area is evidently an appropriate subject for further research.
Involvement of a 1-Cys Peroxiredoxin in Bacterial Virulence

Abstract: The killing of bacterial pathogens by macrophages occurs via the oxidative burst and bacteria have evolved to overcome this challenge and survive, using several virulence and defense strategies, including antioxidant mechanisms. We show here that the 1-Cys peroxiredoxin LsfA from the opportunistic pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa is endowed with thiol-dependent peroxidase activity that protects the bacteria from H2O2 and that this protein is implicated in pathogenicity. LsfA belongs to the poorly studied Prx6 subfamily of peroxiredoxins. The function of these peroxiredoxins has not been characterized in bacteria, and their contribution to host-pathogen interactions remains unknown. Infection of macrophages with the lsfA mutant strains resulted in higher levels of the cytokine TNF-α production due to the activation of the NF-kB and MAPK pathways, that are partially inhibited by the wild-type P. aeruginosa strain. A redox fluorescent probe was more oxidized in the lsfA mutant-infected macrophages than it was in the macrophages infected with the wild-type strain, suggesting that the oxidative burst was overstimulated in the absence of LsfA. Although no differences in the phagocytosis rates were observed when macrophages were infected with wild-type and mutant bacteria in a gentamicin exclusion assay, a higher number of wild-type bacterial cells was found in the supernatant. This difference was not observed when macrophages were pre-treated with a NADPH oxidase inhibitor, confirming the role of LsfA in the bacterial resistance to ROS generated via NADPH oxidase. In an acute pneumonia model, mice infected with the mutant strains presented higher cytokine release in the lungs and increased activated neutrophil recruitment, with reduced bacterial burden and improved survival rates compared to mice infected with the wild-type bacteria. LsfA is the first bacterial 1-Cys Prx shown to modulate host immune responses and its characterization will allow a better understanding of the role of redox signaling in host-pathogen interactions.
Recognition of enteroinvasive Escherichia coli and Shigella flexneri by dendritic cells: distinct dendritic cell activation states

Abstract: the innate and adaptive immune responses of dendritic cells (dcs) to enteroinvasive escherichia coli (eiec) infection were compared with dc responses to shigella flexneri infection. eiec triggered dcs to produce interleukin (il)-10, il-12 and tumour necrosis factor (tnf)-α, whereas s. flexneri induced only the production of tnf-α. unlike s. flexneri, eiec strongly increased the expression of toll like receptor (tlr)-4 and tlr-5 in dcs and diminished the expression of co-stimulatory molecules that may cooperate to inhibit cd4+ t-lymphocyte proliferation. the inflammation elicited by eiec seems to be related to innate immunity both because of the aforementioned results and because only eiec were able to stimulate dc transmigration across polarised caco-2 cell monolayers, a mechanism likely to be associated with the secretion of cc chemokine ligands (ccl)20 and tnf-α. understanding intestinal dc biology is critical to unravelling the infection strategies of eiec and may aid in the design of treatments for infectious diseases.
Therapeutic monoclonal antibody for sporotrichosis

Abstract: Sporotrichosis is a chronic subcutaneous mycosis that affects both humans and animals worldwide. This subcutaneous mycosis had been attributed to a single etiological agent, Sporothrix schenckii. S. schenckii exhibits considerable genetic variability, and recently, it was suggested that this taxon consists of a complex of species. Sporotrichosis is caused by traumatic inoculation of the fungus, which is a ubiquitous environmental saprophyte that can be isolated from soil and plant debris. The infection is limited to cutaneous forms, but recently, more severe clinical forms of this mycosis have been described, especially among immunocompromised individuals. The immunological mechanisms involved in the prevention and control of sporotrichosis are not well understood. Some studies suggest that cell-mediated immunity plays an important role in protecting the host against S. schenckii. In contrast, the role of the humoral immune response in protection against this fungus has not been studied in detail. In a previous study, we showed that antigens secreted by S. schenckii induced a specific humoral response in infected animals, primarily against a 70-kDa molecule, indicating a possible role of specific antibodies against this molecule in infection control. In another study by our group, we produced a mAb against a 70-kDa glycoprotein of S. schenckii to better understand the effect of the passive immunization of mice infected with S. schenckii. The results showed a significant reduction in the number of CFUs in various mice organs when the mAb was injected before or during S. schenckii infection. Similar results were observed when T-cell-deficient mice were used. The drugs of choice in the treatment of sporotrichosis require long periods, and relapses are frequently observed, primarily in immunocompromised patients. The strong protection induced by the mAb against a 70-kDa glycoprotein makes it a strong candidate as a therapeutic vaccine against sporotrichosis.
The role of quasi-momentum in the resonant dynamics of the atom-optics kicked rotor

Abstract: We examine the effect of the initial atomic momentum distribution on the dynamics of the atom-optical realisation of the quantum kicked rotor. The atoms are kicked by a pulsed optical lattice, the periodicity of which implies that quasi-momentum is conserved in the transport problem. We study and compare experimentally and theoretically two resonant limits of the kicked rotor: in the vicinity of the quantum resonances and in the semiclassical limit of vanishing kicking period. It is found that for the same experimental distribution of quasi-momenta, significant deviations from the kicked rotor model are induced close to quantum resonance, while close to the classical resonance (i.e. for small kicking period) the effect of the quasi-momentum vanishes.
Evaluation of 5-axis HSC dynamic behavior when milling TiAl6V4 blades

Abstract: gas combustion represents the second principal way of electricity generation due to its disposal, and smaller dimension and pollution capacity when compared with diesel engines. the conversion of natural gas in electricity is made through gas turbines, and the rotors of its compressors are components that present significant difficulty in its manufacture. this paper focuses on an optimization approach of the 5-axis milling of titanium blisks, based on all the cad/cam modeling chain. special interest is pointed to the systematic analysis of the correlation between machining parameter and surface integrity properties. the experimental part of this work is composed by two tests. the first one analyses the roughing operation of a tial6v4 impeller when using a tool radial engagement of 30% and 68%. the second is the simultaneous 5 axes milling of a test-piece, a tial6v4 integral bladed disk (blisk) section containing five blades, with which the best milling strategy for this purpose is sought. the results showed the fundamental importance of cad modeling in order to achieve simultaneous 5 axes milling without intermittent feed speed. it was observed that milling a blade following its parametric curves in the blisk axis direction is the best choice, among the strategies proposed.
