COMPARISON BETWEEN DNA DETECTION TEST OF HUMAN PAPILLOMA VIRUS AND THE HYBRID CAPTURE SYSTEM WITH CYTOLOGY IN CERVICAL SMEARS.

SaBios : Revista de Saúde e Biologia , 2006,
Abstract: The Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) has significant importance in invasive cervical cancer etiology of and its precursory injuries. Thus, it is necessary the application of molecular methodologies for the precocious diagnosis of this infection. This research has evaluated the effectiveness of Hybrid Capture System (HCS) in detecting pathogenic types of HPV. HCS was compared with empirical established cytological criteria in specimens with cellular alterations that were suggestive of HPV infection. The presence of HPV was also evaluated in cytological normal specimens with inflammation and Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia (CIN). One hundred and eight women, suspected of HPV infection (clinical or cytological suspicion), were selected. Results demonstrated that both methods were complementary, since Hybrid Capture confirmed results of the cytology. The two methods may be used together to improve the diagnosis. Furthermore, the use of Hybrid Capture test in HPV diagnosis allows the identification of the risk that the virus proportionate.

Crop Breeding and Applied Biotechnology , 2011,
Abstract: The purpose of this study was to characterize 50 tomato genotypes of the Vegetable Genebank of the FederalUniversity of Vi osa. They were evaluated together with the controls Débora, Fanny and Santa Clara, in a randomized block designwith two replications. The experiment was conducted in a research field of the UFV, from February to May 2007. We evaluated thedisease severity, which is the percentage of diseased leaf area. The severity values were transformed into area under the diseaseprogress curve (AUDPC), improving the result visualization. The analysis of variance and grouping of AUDPC means by the Scott-Knott test at 5 % significance were performed. The accessions BGH-2081, BGH-2034, BGH-700, BGH-2057, BGH-2035, BGH-2054, BGH-2018, BGH-2065, BGH-2008, and BGH-2032 had a lower mean AUDPC than the controls and are therefore indicatedfor future breeding programs.

Trends in Psychiatry and Psychotherapy , 2012,
Abstract: OBJECTIVE: To describe a series of cases of tobacco chippers (TCs) who sought assistance for smoking cessation. DESCRIPTION OF CASES: We describe the case of three TCs who participated in a free quit-smoking support group. Smokers answered self-administered questionnaires covering sociodemographic data, smoking history, nicotine dependence, perceived health status, and motivational stages. Of the 183 smokers enrolled in the program, three (1.6%) were considered TCs. All three were women and reported alcohol use, although at low frequencies. Two of them reported the presence of potentially tobacco-related disease. All TCs presented light nicotine dependence and reported difficulties quitting smoking. All dropped out after the first group meeting. COMMENTS: This study describes a subgroup of smokers not extensively described in the literature: TCs seeking assistance for smoking cessation, with some degree of nicotine dependence, and who do not adhere to regular group therapy. Interventions aimed at this population may be an interesting strategy for smoking cessation.

Abstract: the inadequate management of the waste the health services are producing day by day and the considerable increase in quantity of this waste are increasingly posing hazards to the health of the population. thus, the managers in charge of establishments that originate this waste should adopt a management plan for health service waste - mphsw. the main responsibility of guiding and monitoring the construction and implementation of the waste management plan falls on the local health and environmental protection authorities. this paper presents a model for a questionnaire to be used by the local authorities for analyzing the mphsw of the health services in their respective jurisdictions. the result of this analysis (including graphs and tables with the percentages of questions fitting into each criterion set in advance) will be returned to the health institution with precise instructions for improving the quality of the plan. the necessary software is easily available and allows adapting the questionnaire to the conditions and needs of each municipality. the model provides parameters enabling the involved authorities to direct their capacity-building actions, allows quick evaluation of the mphsws and is easily updated.

Ciência & Saúde Coletiva , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-81232008000100017
Abstract: based on an integral healthcare model for the users of alcohol and other drugs, the expansion of brazil's psycho-social care centers - alcohol and drugs (caps-ad) is guided by the acknowledgement of users as citizens rather than patients, aiming at social reinsertion through an intersectoral approach and damage control, as well as other principles designed to build up integral healthcare services that are fair and egalitarian. this paper examines alcohol and drug users, their companions and healthcare practitioners in terms of the existing healthcare model, through a study conducted at two psycho-social care centers - alcohol and drugs in recife, pernambuco state. focus groups, participative observation and documentary surveys were used to analyze the daily work routines at these centers, exploring player perceptions and therapeutic projects. the findings indicate that users are still perceived as being ill, with medicalization and other traces of care models not used since the psychiatric reform. social reinsertion was perceived as the main obstacle in integral healthcare. restructuring this practice seems necessary, in order to break away from a culture of prejudice, exclusion and illness, as well as control models based on hospital-centric psychiatry.
