Abstract: the knowledge of the vascularization of the anterior abdominal wall is very important on the incisions and abdominal punctures, contributing to avoid the injuries of this vessels during this procedures. with the goal to study the emergency and the trajectory of the superior epigastric arteries, 32 adult not preserved cadavers, of the masculine sex, white and not white, with age between 18 and 65 years were studied. the trajectory of the superior epigastric arteries, your emergency and distribution form were observed. the superior epigástric arteries emerged behind to 7th costal cartilage in all the cases. in 75% of the cases they appeared like an only trunk and in 15 cases (23,44%) they appeared forked, being 11 to the right and 04 to the left and in 01 case (1,56%) to the left, it'd origin three main branches. when in an only trunk, your trajectory went descending of medial for lateral in relationship to the lateral margin of the rectus abdominal muscle. when forked, your branches separated one of the other immediatelly after your emergency, back converging close to the umbilical scar

Abstract: background: this study aims to evaluate the colonic anastomotic healing testing of all layers suture and single layer suture using an intraluminal protector. the intraluminal protector was shaped from a penrose drain and then fixed 10 cm from the superior end of the anastomotic site. methods: colonic anastomoses were done in 10 dogs, which were sutured, in the proximal segment with an intraluminal protector made of penrose n.3 drain, using interrupted mucosal / submucosal suture. in the subsequent anastomoses, the animals were subdivided in two experimental groups: 1 - in all layers and 2 - extramucosal. in the seventh postoperative day, a tissue fragment was collected for histopathological analysis. results: group 2 histopathological examinations had a better scar (extramucosal suture), characterized by a lesser inflammatory process than in animals in which all layers suture was used (group 1). conclusion: the use of extramucosal suture was better than total suture in colonic anastomoses with the presence of an intraluminal protector.

Abstract: background: the 4-second exercise test (t4s) evaluates the cardiac vagal tone during the initial heart rate (hr) transient at sudden dynamic exercise, through the identification of the cardiac vagal index (cvi) obtained from the electrocardiogram (ecg). objective: to evaluate the use of the polar s810 heart rate monitor (hrm) as an alternative resource to the use of the electrocardiogram in the 4-second exercise test. methods: in this study, 49 male individuals (25 ± 20 years, 176 ±12 cm, 74 ± 6 kg) underwent the 4-second exercise test. the rr intervals were recorded simultaneously by ecg and hrm. we calculated the mean and the standard deviation of the last rr interval of the pre-exercise period, or of the first rr interval of the exercise period, whichever was longer (rrb), of the shortest rr interval of the exercise period (rrc), and of the cvi obtained by ecg and hrm. we used the student t-test for dependent samples (p < 0.05) to test the significance of the differences between means. to identify the correlation between the ecg and the hrm, we used the linear regression to calculate the pearson's correlation coefficient and the strategy proposed by bland and altman. results: linear regression showed r2 of 0.9999 for rrb, 0.9997 for rrc, and 0.9996 for cvi. bland e altman strategy presented standard deviation of 0.92 ms for rrb, 0.86 ms for rrc, and 0.002 for cvi. conclusion: polar s810 hrm was more efficient in the application of t4s compared to the ecg.

Abstract: involvement of the digestive system in patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (aids) is frequent and many changes in these patients are diagnosed only at autopsy. there are few studies of autopsy with detailed analysis of this system and only one was conducted in brazil. we evaluated each segment of the digestive system in 93 consecutive autopsies of patients infected with human immunodeficiency virus (hiv) and the importance of these lesions to death. of these, 90 (96.8%) patients had aids. we reviewed medical records, autopsy reports and histological sections from tongue to rectum stained with hematoxylin-eosin. when necessary, we analyzed special stains and immunohistochemistry to investigate infections. there was damage to the digestive system in 73 (78.5%) cases. the most common infections were candidiasis (42%), cytomegalovirus (29%), histoplasmosis (11.8%), toxoplasmosis (9.7%) and mycobacterial infection (9.7%). malignancies were rare, present in four (4.3%) cases (two kaposi's sarcoma, one adenocarcinoma and one metastatic embryonal carcinoma). all segments showed lesions: tongue (48.6%), esophagus (44.8%), stomach (44.7%), colon (43.2%) and small intestine (28.9%). the lesions found were immediate cause of death in five (5.4%) cases. in another 36 (38.7%) cases the basic disease was systemic and also compromised the digestive system.
Organizaciones sociales y partidos políticos en Oaxaca: sus vínculos
Audelo Cruz, Jorge Mario;
Política y cultura , 2007,
Abstract: in every political system, citizens expect attention to their demands by their political representatives. one way to get it is to join organizations which have links to deputies, senators, political leaders and government authorities. however, the leadership of these organizations do not always attend to the needs of their people and the organizations' relationship with the political elite is not always democratic. this essay tries to show briefly the way that the most important political parties in oaxaca link with some indigenous and peasant organizations and find out if there is a democratic growth in political representation.

The coexistence of peace and conflict in South America: toward a new conceptualization of types of peace A coexistência entre paz e conflito na América do Sul: em dire o a uma nova conceitua o dos tipos de paz

Revista Brasileira de Política Internacional , 2012,
Abstract: South America's predominant democratic regimes and its increasing interdependence on regional trade have not precluded the emergence of militarized crises between Colombia and Venezuela or the revival of boundary claims between Chile and Peru. This way, how can we characterize a zone that, in spite of its flourishing democracy and dense economic ties, remain involved in territorial disputes for whose resolution the use of force has not yet been discarded? This article contends that existing classifications of zones of peace are not adequate to explain this unusual coexistence. Thus, its main purpose is to develop a new analytical category of regional peace for assessing this phenomenon: the hybrid peace. It aims to research the evolution of security systems in South America during the previous century and build a new, threefold classification of peace zones: negative peace zones, hybrid peace zones, and positive peace zones.
Jorge Mario Uribe Gil
Lecturas de Economía , 2011,
Abstract: A recently developed methodology, based on asymptotic dependence coefficients, is proposed to detect financial market contagion. The approach, while remaining within the theoretical limits of the problem, is robust when compared against common statistical approximation criteria such as Pearson coefficients and vector autoregressions. The technique is applied to evaluate the historical performance of the main financial markets in Colombia, namely public bonds, stocks, money and the exchange rate. In broad terms, no signs of financial contagion were detected even after the world financial crisis of 2007-2009.
Bases biológicas de la dependencia de las drogas: hacia un enfoque integral del proglema Biologic bases of drug dependence: toward an integral approach of the problem
Jorge Mario Tamayo
Iatreia , 1998,
Drugs abuse and dependence are complex and expensive disorders that require a polymodal and integral therapeutic intervention. Several scientific discoveries related to the biological bases of these disorders have recently arisen. These discoveries guide the design of programs that include different psychotropic drugs and psychotherapeutic technics that allow a modulation of the neuronal dysfunction process. Research on the mesolimbic dopaminergic system and the opioid receptors in the brain stem and the nucleus accumbens added to new knowledge of different intraneuronal mechanisms, allow a better understanding of cerebral and behavioral changes due to acute and chronic consumption of drugs. Such biological findings are the purpose of this review based on a MEDLINE search of articles.
