Impact of Interleaver Pruning on Properties of Underlying Permutations

Abstract: In this paper we address the issue of pruning (i.e., shortening) a given interleaver via truncation of the transposition vector of the mother permutation and study its impact on the structural properties of the permutation. This method of pruning allows for continuous un-interrupted data flow regardless of the permutation length since the permutation engine is a buffer whose leading element is swapped by other elements in the queue. The principle goal of pruning is that of construction of variable length and hence delay interleavers with application to iterative soft information processing and concatenated codes, using the same structure (possibly in hardware) of the interleaver and deinterleaver units. We address the issue of how pruning impacts the spread of the permutation and also look at how pruning impacts algebraically constructed permutations. We note that pruning via truncation of the transposition vector of the permutation can have a catastrophic impact on the permutation spread of algebraically constructed permutations. To remedy this problem, we propose a novel lifting method whereby a subset of the points in the permutation map leading to low spread of the pruned permutation are identified and eliminated. Practical realization of this lifting is then proposed via dummy symbol insertion in the input queue of the Finite State Permuter (FSP), and subsequent removal of the dummy symbols at the FSP output.

Abstract: We derive the probability that a randomly chosen NL-node over $S$ gets localized as a function of a variety of parameters. Then, we derive the probability that the whole network of NL-nodes over $S$ gets localized. In connection with the asymptotic thresholds, we show the presence of asymptotic thresholds on the network localization probability in two different scenarios. The first refers to dense networks, which arise when the domain $S$ is bounded and the densities of the two kinds of nodes tend to grow unboundedly. The second kind of thresholds manifest themselves when the considered domain increases but the number of nodes grow in such a way that the L-node density remains constant throughout the investigated domain. In this scenario, what matters is the minimum value of the maximum transmission range averaged over the fading process, denoted as $d_{max}$, above which the network of NL-nodes almost surely gets asymptotically localized.

Abstract: experiments were carried out aiming to optimize procedures for cytological preparations of root tips with high frequency of metaphase cells showing clear features of chromosome morphology, in species belonging to two genera of plants, passiflora (passifloraceae) and crotalaria (leguminosae). for the accumulation of metaphases, as well as prophases and prometaphases with well condensed chromosomes, pretreatments of root tips with different combinations of 8-hydroxiquinoline, a mitotic fuse inhibitor and with cycloheximide, a protein synthesis inhibitor, were evaluated in feulgen stained preparations. the treatments with 8-hydroxiquinoline at 300ppm + cycloheximide at 3.125ppm, and with 8hydroxiquinoline at 300ppm + cycloheximide at 6.25ppm, both for 1 hour and 30 minutes, were more effective respectively for passiflora and crotalaria species. this investigation illustrates a case of differences of pretreatment procedures between two genera of plants, as well as represents a basic work for studies involving the comparison of the karyotype of species belonging to these genera, and especially, for the detection of chromosome markers via several cytogenetic methods (c-banding, fluorescent-chromosome banding and in situ hybridization).

Abstract: Foram conduzidos experimentos visando à otimiza o de procedimentos para prepara es citológicas de pontas de raiz com alta freqüência de metáfases mitóticas, apresentando cromossomos com morfologia nítida, em espécies pertencentes a dois gêneros de plantas, Passiflora (Passifloraceae) e Crotalaria (Leguminosae). Para o acúmulo de metáfases, bem como de prófases e prometáfases com cromossomos bem condensados, foram avaliados pré-tratamentos de raízes, em que foram utilizadas diferentes combina es de 8-hidroxiquinolina, inibidor do fuso mitótico, com cicloheximida, inibidor da síntese protéica. As prepara es foram coradas pelo método de Feulgen. Os melhores resultados foram obtidos com o tratamento com 8-hidroxiquinolina a 300ppm combinado com cicloheximida a 3,125ppm, por 1 hora e 30 minutos para as espécies de Passiflora, e a combina o de 8-hidroxiquinolina a 300ppm + cicloheximida a 6,25ppm também durante 1 hora e 30 minutos para as espécies de Crotalaria. Esta investiga o ilustra a situa o de dois gêneros de plantas em que a adequa o de pré-tratamentos diferiu entre os grupos, e é fundamental para estudos envolvendo compara o do cariótipo das espécies, sobretudo para a detec o de marcadores cromoss micos evidenciados por meio de métodos diversos de citogenética (bandamento-C, bandamento com fluorocromos e hibrida o in situ fluorescente).

Abstract: Com o objetivo de estudar a variabilidade genética intra-específica em Oncidium varicosum Lindl. (Orchidaceae - Oncidiinae), foram avaliadas cinco popula es de Minas Gerais, coletadas em Alfenas (AL), Estiva (ES), Pedra do Cora o (PC), Pedra Branca (PB) e Pouso Alegre (PA). Foram considerados 22 caracteres florais, medidos a partir de "vouchers" (fichas florais), empregando-se métodos estatísticos univariados e multivariados (análise discriminante can nica - CDA e análise de agrupamento a partir de distancia de Mahalanobis). Houve diferen a significativa (p < 0,05) entre popula es, pelo teste F, para 13 caracteres. O primeiro eixo can nico separou a popula o PA de PB e de PC. Os indivíduos de PA s o menores que os de PC, que s o menores que os de PB. AL se sobrep s a PA, ES e PC pelo primeiro eixo, mas se separou completamente de PA e quase que totalmente das demais popula es de acordo com o segundo eixo can nico, por apresentar características como colunas compridas e espessas, sépalas laterais compridas e estreitas e ovários mais curtos. De acordo com a análise de agrupamento, novamente a popula o AL divergiu das demais. Observou-se que as popula es ES, PC e PB s o mais próximas entre si, seguidas da popula o de PA. O padr o de variabilidade genética observado n o parece estar relacionado a diferen as de latitude. Entretanto, parece estar associado a diferen as de longitude, embora este único fator pode n o ser suficiente para explicá-lo.
