Genetic aspects of endothelium dysfunction in Uzbek hypertensive patients
Gulnoza Khamidullaeva,Amayak Kevorkov,Marietta Eliseyeva
Medical and Health Science Journal , 2010,
Abstract: The objective of the study was to evaluate the prevalence of ACE/ID, AGT/M235T, AT1R/A1166C, CYP11B2/C344T, B2ВKR/+9-9, ecNOS/4a4b, GNB3/C825T, and ARB2/Gln27Glu gene polymorphisms and their association with endothelium dysfunction (ED) in Uzbek hypertensive patients. The study found an association between ED and AGT M235T gene polymorphism. Genetic models disclosed that the T-allele, MT-, and TT-genotypes of the AGT gene were associated with an increased risk of ED. However, multivariate logistic regression analysis confirmed the negative association between the MM genotype of the AGT gene and positive association between IMT and ED. An association between essential hypertension (EH) in Uzbek males with ACE/ID and GNB3/C825T gene polymorphisms has been demonstrated. There is an association of AGT/ M235T gene polymorphism and ED in Uzbek hypertensive patients.
The development of an interdisciplinary nurse educator doctoral program: Issues for consideration and goals for success  [PDF]
Marietta P. Stanton, Donna R. Packa
Open Journal of Nursing (OJN) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/ojn.2012.23037
Abstract: The nursing shortage is exacerbated by the faculty shortage, as faculty approach retirement age and too few faculty exist to replace them. Masters-prepared nurse with limited preparation for teaching may be unable to attend traditional educational programs because of work and family commitments. Without further academic preparation, these nurses are illprepared for the faculty role. The College of Nursing partnered with the College of Education to develop a nurse educator degree program to prepare nurses for the faculty role. Blended and online courses are provided by the Colleges of Nursing. The EdD. in Instructional Leadership for Nurse Educators degree can be completed in three years of coursework followed by dissertation research.
Investigating Veteran Status in Primary Care Assessment  [PDF]
Marietta Stanton
Open Journal of Nursing (OJN) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ojn.2014.49070

This paper emphasizes how in the process of interviewing patients, questions related to their veteran status need to be assimilated into our assessment process. Failure to determine that they are veterans may allow important issues and problems related to their health status to go undetected. Adding questions to our repertoire and knowing how to access a few key resources may assist patients in maximizing their health care options.

This article contributes to elucidate some of the covert quotations and allusions to be found in “Pierre Menard, Author of the Quixote” which multiply the ironic effect of the text. Translation seen as irony once more evokes the classic definitions of literature which shape Borges’ literary system. Translations are part of the vicissitudes of a text. They are, paradoxically, the later drafts of a doubtful - and always provisional - original. Contrary to the commonly voiced assumption, Pierre Menard is not a metaphor of translation. In fact, translation is a metaphor of the literary phenomenon: the metaphor par excellence of the literary phenomenon. Be it mask or revelation, translation is inseparable from that process by which the literary work lives and courts its own end.
La traducción de América = The translation of America
The present article analyses the linguistic policy of the Spanish empire in America. It describes the neglect of education which resulted in massive illiteracy at the end of the colonial period, the continued use of Amerindian languages for religious purposes and the creation of a literate society which determined once and for all the supremacy of Spanish as the vehicle for high culture. This process brought about the cultural annihilation of the indigenous civilizations because not only were the codices and other pre-Colombian documents burned, but also the brilliant early translations containing the history of the original peoples of America were suppressed and banned.
Transfrontera Crimes: Representations of the Juárez Femicides in Recent Fictional and Non-Fictional Accounts
Marietta Messmer
American Studies Journal , 2012,
Abstract: In her article, Marrietta Messmer discusses the representation of the Juárez femicides and their traumatizing effects on the Juárez/El Paso community in four recently published accounts: Teresa Rodriguez's journalistic account The Daughters of Juarez (2007), the documentary Se orita Extraviada (2001) directed by Lourdes Portillo, the feature film Bordertown (2006), directed by Gregory Nava, and Alicia Gaspar de Alba's mystery novel Desert Blood: The Juárez Murders (2005). More specifically, she analyzes the degree to which these sources regard the femicides not merely as a Mexican problem but as a structural and highly significant transborder issue that has its roots in the region's current political and economic developments, as well as its pervasive social and cultural changes.
Local contractivity of the $Φ_0^4$ mapping
Marietta Manolessou
Physics , 2012,
Abstract: Previous results about the non trivial solution of the $\Phi^4$-equations of motion for the Green's functions in the Euclidean\ space (of $0\leq r\leq 4$ dimensions) in the Wightman Quantum Field theory framework, are reviewed in the 0 - dimensional case from the following three aspects: The structure of the subset $\Phi \subset {\cal B}$ characterized by the signs and "splitting" (factorization properties) is reffined and more explictly described by a subset $\Phi_0\subset \Phi$ The local contractivity of the corresponding $\Phi ^4_0$ mappping is established in a neighborhood of a precise nontrivial sequence $H_0\in \Phi_0$ using a new norm in the Banach space $ {\cal B}$. A new $\Phi ^4_0$ iteration is defined in the neighborhood of this sequence $H_0\in \Phi_0 $ and our numerical study displays clearly the stability of $\Phi_0$ (the splitting, the bounds and sign properties are perfectly illustrated), and a rapid convergence to the unique fixed point $H^* \in \Phi_0$.
Characterisation of Real-World Bus Acceleration and Deceleration Signals  [PDF]
Marietta Kirchner, Patric Schubert, Christian T. Haas
Journal of Signal and Information Processing (JSIP) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/jsip.2014.51002

Public transportation by bus is an essential part of mobility. Braking and starting, e.g., approaching a bus stop, are documented as the main reason for non-collision incidents. These situations are evoked by the acceleration forces leading to perturbations of the passenger’s base of support. In laboratory studies perturbations are applied to getting insight into the postural control system and neuromuscular responses. However, bus perturbations diverge from laboratory ones with respect to duration, maximum and shape, and it was shown recently that these characteristics influence the postural response. Thus, results from posturographic studies cannot be generalised and transferred to bus perturbations. In this study, acceleration (ACC) and deceleration (DEC) signals of real traffic situations were examined. A mathematical approach is proposed in order to identify characteristics of these signals and to quantify their similarity and complexity. Typical characteristics (duration, maximum, and shape) of real-world driving manoeuvres concerning start and stop situations could be identified. A mean duration of 13.6 s for ACC and 9.8 s for DEC signals was found which is clearly longer than laboratory perturbations. ACC and DEC signals are more complex than the used signals for platform displacements in the laboratory. The proposed method enables the reconstruction of bus ACC and DEC signals. The data can be used as input for studies on postural control with high ecological validity.
