Revista argentina de cardiolog?-a , 2010,
Abstract: we have previously demonstrated that angiotensin (ang)-(1-7) decreases the release and synthesis of norepinephrine (ne) in spontaneously hypertensive rats (shr). in the present study, we have investigated the effect of ang-(1-7) on neuronal ne reuptake and the expression of ne trans-porter (net), responsible for eliminating ne from the syn-aptic cleft. although ang-(1-7) does not have an acute effect on ne neuronal reuptake, it plays a role in stimulating the protein content of the net in the long-term. ang-(1-7) activates mas receptor and stimulates protein synthesis de novo of the transporter. in this way, ang-(1-7) would contribute to blood pressure control through the regulation of ne levels in the synaptic cleft.

Abstract: the objective of the present study was to evaluate the effect of the intrahypothalamic administration of angiotensin-[1-7] (ang-[1-7]) on blood pressure and heart rate and on angiotensin ii (ang-ii) activity in rats with sham operation (so) and rats with aortic coarctation (aco) in early and chronic stage of hypertension. wistar rats were used. seven and 42 days after the corresponding operation one carotid artery was cannulated for the measurement of the mean arterial pressure (map) in anaesthetized rats and an injection needle was inserted in the anterior hypothalamus by means of a stereotactic frame for the administration of ang-ii (50 ng), ang-[1-7] (50 ng) and ang-ii + ang-[1-7] (50 + 50 ng). hypothalamic administration of ang-ii produced an increased map in the aco rats when compared to the control group in the early and chronic stages of hypertension, whereas ang-[1-7] did not induce significant changes in any experimental group. the co-administration of ang -[1-7] reduced the pressure activity of the ang-ii in both early and chronic stages of hypertension in the aco rats, whereas it had no effect on the pressure activity of ang-ii in the normotensive rats. in conclusion, the pressure activity of ang-ii is increased in rats with early and chronic stages of arterial hypertension. the antagonistic effect of ang-[1-7] may indicate that this peptide could modulate the pressure activity of an already increased ang-ii, since it has been only observed in the hypertensive rats.

Disorienting the Furniture: The Transgressive Journalism of Alfonsina Storni and Charlotte Perkins Gilman
Mariela E. Méndez
Journal of Transnational American Studies , 2010,
Abstract: Drawing on the journalistic prose of two major literary figures of early-twentieth-century Argentina and the U.S., this article breaches cultural, national, and geographical frontiers by comparing the discursive gestures through which Alfonsina Storni and Charlotte Perkins Gilman re-appropriate for themselves the canonical genre of essay-writing to advance their feminist agendas. By undermining the presuppositions underlying so-called feminine publications of their time, both women carry out an intriguing disarticulation of the classic private/public divide that empowers their female readers to conceive of female subjectivity in new and innovative ways. Almost a mythic figure in the world of Latin American letters, Alfonsina Storni has achieved world renown as Argentina’s most famous “poetess of love,” thus obscuring her substantial contributions to Argentinean periodical literature. Even though Charlotte Perkins Gilman has become one of the most influential figures in the history of American First-Wave Feminism, that reputation is largely founded on her feminist fiction and her book Women and Economics, while her journalistic accomplishments have received considerably less attention. The transnational dialogue between these two writers conjured up in this article unearths this more or less neglected corpus to reveal the ways in which both subverted traditional definitions of gender through a transgressive use of discursive spaces heavily coded as “feminine” by patriarchal ideology.
Representación social de la prevención de enfermedades en la atención primaria de salud
Rodríguez Méndez,Mariela;
Revista Cubana de Medicina General Integral , 2009,
Abstract: introduction: family physician program was established twenty years ago to prevent diseases and to promote the health; however, results are not as expected. how the health primary care professionals consider and practice the prevention could fit such problem. aim: to explore the relation of social consideration of health professional in health primary care with their daily preventive practices. methods: qualitative types applying the interview, observation, and content analysis techniques to cuban journal of general integral medicine. results: health primary care professionals consider the disease prevention essentially as the execution of actions directed by programs and the information to population on behavior guidelines to be followed. although there was a favorable attitude toward the prevention per se, there are complaints of work overload and the work condition at this care level. conclusions: considerations of disease prevention and the preventive practices in health primary care are complementary, since the preventive practice at this care level is characterized by that demanded by programs, mainly, if they are priority, as well as to inform on preventive behavior guidelines.

Abstract: primary pyomyositis is an acute or subacute bacterial infection of skeletal muscle characterized by the formation of intramuscular localized abscess without a previous adjoining or remote infection. although it is not frequent in our population, it is increasing because of community-acquired methicilin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (ca-mrsa) emergency. for an early diagnosis and to avoid secondary complications a high degree of clinical suspicion is required. we report a case of primary pyomyositis in a boy without an underlying condition or previous infection.
Metodología para evaluación del ruido ambiental urbano en la ciudad de Medellín
Ortega B,Mariela; Cardona M,Juan Mario;
Revista Facultad Nacional de Salud Pública , 2005,
Abstract: objective: to develop a methodology to determine urban environmental noise level to which inhabitants of the city of medellín are exposed to and to verify compliance with colombian legislation on the matter. materials and methods: a descriptive two stages crosssectional study was performed, collecting information in the first stage by surveying people?s perception about presence of urban noise. levels of sonorous pressure were measured and compared with permissible limits during the second stage. results: the developed methodology was tried out with a pilot test in la candelaria commune where 67% of the population reported annoyance caused by urban noise, 81% during day time; vehicle traffic was generally identified as the main source of emission. noise measurements were carried out in 16 places of prado district. authors concluded that 94% of the evaluated places surpass the established permissible limits according to colombian legislation. in addition it was detected that inside this district, considered as residential, there is a significant sector with the connotation of a tranquillity zone. conclusion: this methodology allows to determine if a community is exposed or not to noise levels above the established colombian norms, as well as to identify emission sources and validate the conformation of urban zones.
Improving the Ni I atomic model for solar and stellar atmospheric models
Mariela C. Vieytes,Juan M. Fontenla
Physics , 2013, DOI: 10.1088/0004-637X/769/2/103
Abstract: Neutral nickel (Ni I) is abundant in the solar atmosphere and is one of the important elements that contribute to the emission and absorption of radiation in the spectral range between 1900 and 3900 A. Previously, the Solar Radiation Physical Modeling (SRPM) models of the solar atmosphere considered only few levels of this species. Here we improve the Ni I atomic model by taking into account 61 levels and 490 spectral lines. We compute the populations of these levels in full NLTE using the SRPM code and compare the resulting emerging spectrum with observations. The present atomic model improves significantly the calculation of the solar spectral irradiance at near-UV wavelengths that are important for Earth atmo spheric studies, and particularly for ozone chemistry.
