Abstract: this article deals with the urban population segment identified as homeless and disabled that is also. this contingent can be considered to be doubly excluded: through poverty and through disability. the social consequences of these factors deeply scar and compromise these people's lives. this adverse context gives rise to issues that deserve to be explored and gain visibility. the relevance of this subject inspired an investigative arrangement that sought to get to know, understand and reflect upon demands through individual stories that are intertwined with social history.

Abstract: this paper refers to the contributions of the curricular studies for the teaching of history, considering that researches on this teaching, when passed by curricular questions, need approaches with educational theories and boardings. in this article i present a reflection over the academic disputes for the definition of contents of education, over the specificity of historical discipline in school and over the possibility of modifying the formation of history teachers, aiming at boardings about culture and education designed by curricular studies. the text was constructed as an allegory, parting from the picture of the painter terniers, the younger, entitled the archduke leopold wilhelm in his painting gallery at brussels, belonging to the museum of prado, in madrid.

Abstract: from of the studies that marked sílvia lane's construction of a social psychology focused on our reality, the paper reports her journey to six latin american capitals undertaken in the beginning of the 1980's. the journey revealed to be rich in opportunity to closely know projects focused especially on populations submitted to various types of opression and exploitation, some of which are described in detail. the text was organized in a way to show the reader some antecedent conditions (the previous experience of the travelers and that of lane's in community psychology), the project (the possible choices related to field research), the journey (procedures and results of the interactions that were established, with information that permitted to recover projects that were visited) and, finally, some implications of trying to learn with colleagues and projects in a reality so close to ours.

Abstract: publishing as a way of showing a production, and not as a way to disseminate a knowledge, may lead scientific authors and editors to certain ambiguities. based on the analysis of the publishing forms used nowadays, this article brings considerations about the extension of the margins between the different aims in the work of edition. in this article we will discuss the technical and scientific aspects of the work of the authors, as well as the editor’s, in the science field, that might disserve the spreading of knowledge. we also invite to a debate not about punctual cases, but about the problem of the pressure that university applies to its teachers to produce quantitatively.

Abstract: the initial analysis of the journal psicologia: ciência e profiss?o allows to divide it into two very different periods: before and after taking over as a scientific journal. this decision, taken at the right time, placed the journal in one of the most important groups of the area, as attested by capes. it seems, however, that its membership in a professional category makes it a journal different from the usual: as well as scientific articles, its publishing project includes the publication of reports of experience. to understand what this may indicate, this article explores the transition from institutional review to a journal in the context of scientific publishing in brazil.

Abstract: membrane reactors are reviewed with emphasis in their applications in catalysis field. the basic principles of these systems are presented as well as a historical development. the several kinds of catalytic membranes and their preparations are discussed including the problems, needs and challenges to be solved in order to use these reactors in commercial processes. some applications of inorganic membrane reactors are also shown. it was concluded that these systems have a great potential for improving yield and selectivity of high temperature catalytic reactions. however, it is still an imerging technology with a need for a lot of fundamental research; several challenges should be overcome for the successful commercial application of these systems.

Abstract: the main objective of this article is to understand how people with low levels of formal scholastic qualifications deal with written information in their daily lives. basing herself on a case study on the phenomenon of literacy in the context of primary-school-level adult education courses, the author looks at the procedural aspects of the day-to-day use of reading, writing and arithmetic. she explores the literacy practises that are employed, the situations in which basic skills are used, the obstacles that people come up against and the adaptive solutions that are recommended. finally she puts forward the concept of literexclusion as one of the procedural faces of social exclusion.

Abstract: the key empirical object of the research work on which this article is based is pupils in adult education courses from the first cycle of basic education to ongoing education (cea). based on those pupils? position in the structure of society - origins, social trajectories and ways of life - and their relationships to literacy in daily life, this article seeks to understand the ways in which learning is experienced in the context of ongoing education and its implications for the acquisition of basic reading, writing and computational skills in order to process written information contained in printed documents. an attempt is also made to understand the procedural aspects of the social phenomenon of literacy for those without formal schooling, and the theoretical and methodological developments which the use of qualitative techniques may bring to studies in this area.
