Percep??o de risco: maneiras de pensar e agir no manejo de agrotóxicos
Fonseca,Maria das Gra?as Uchoa; Peres,Frederico; Firmo,Josélia Oliveira Araújo; Uch?a,Elizabeth;
Ciência & Saúde Coletiva , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-81232007000100009
Abstract: the object of this study was to identify context elements that have an influence on pesticide use, related perceptions, and actions in flower production. the study was carried out in barbacena, minas gerais state. the method used was based on an anthropological fast diagnosis approach inspired on the signs, meanings and actions model and on the analysis of semi-structured interviews with 20 workers from four different flower-growing fields. the field data analysis indicates that these workers face two realities: the need for pesticides and suffering generated by pesticide management. furthermore, there is clearly no direct relation between risk awareness and the effective hazards associated with pesticides. this gap is filled by beliefs which are at the basis of their actions. these beliefs reinterpret information and risk, influence behavior, and make it possible for these workers to move between these two paradoxical realities and pesticide. attributing new meanings to pesticide management risks, however, may imply in positively valuing potentially harmful behaviors.
Variabilidade morfocultural e genética de fungos associados a podrid?o peduncular do mam?o
Peres, ?ngela Pimenta;Silva-Mann, Renata;Vieira, Maria das Gra?as G. C.;Machado, José da Cruz;
Ciência e Agrotecnologia , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-70542003000500012
Abstract: the objective of this work was to look at the variability between isolates of the three fungal species, colletotrichum gloeosporioides, fusarium solani and phoma caricae-papayae associated with stem-end rot in papaya fruits (carica papaya l.) which were produced in different regions of brazil. in one trial, comparisons were made considering morphological and cultural characteristics exhibited by the fungi grown in different media: potato dextrose agar (pda), papaya extract agar (pea) and czapek. in general, mycelial growth of all fungi was higher in pda and pea and no correlation was seen between growth rates and other morphocultural characteristics such as color, colony type and others for all isolates compared. the analysis of aflp markers revealed that there is a huge genetic variation between isolates as demonstrated by the production of 339 bands in eletrophoretic gel. with basis on genetic diversity it was possible to characterize four groups of c. gloeosporioides, f.solani and p. caricae-papayae. no correlation was seen between morphocultural characteristics and aflp analysis.

Abstract: Objective. To evaluate the effect of an experimental gel containing Euclea natalensis extract on dentin permeability. Methods. Thirty-six dentin discs, 1-mm-thick. The discs were prepared from the coronal dentin of extracted human third molars that were divided into 3 groups (). The dentin discs in each group were treated with the groups following experimental materials: (FG): 1.23% fluoride gel, pH 4.1; (EG): Euclea natalensis extract gel, pH 4.1; (CG): control gel, pH 4.1. The gels were applied to the occlusal slide of the dentin under the following conditions: after 37% phosphoric acid and before 6% citric acid. The hydraulic conductance (HC) of each condition was determined four times using a fluid flow apparatus (Flodec). The data were analyzed using Two-way ANOVA and Tukey's test (). Results. The greatest mean reduction in HC was produced in group EG dentin discs (61.2%; ). Even after acid challenge with 6% citric acid the great reduction occurred in group EG (66.0%; ) than other groups (CG-77.1%, FG-90.8%). Conclusion. E. natalensis gel not only reduced dentin permeability, but also resisted posttreatment citric acid challenge without changing its permeability. Further research has to confirm this promising result in the clinical situation.
