Tra?ando vidas de brasileiros distintos com escrupulosa exatid?o: biografia, erudi??o e escrita da história na Revista do Instituto Histórico e Geográfico Brasileiro (1839-1850)
Oliveira, Maria da Glória de;
História (S?o Paulo) , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-90742007000100013
Abstract: the article aims at reflecting on the biographic texts publications in the historical and geographical brazilian institute review between 1839 and 1850. the hypothesis to be examined is that the biographies of illustrated brazilians were a genre of writing linked to its place of production and submitted to procedures and rules of a historiographical operation.
Fazer história, escrever a história: sobre as figura??es do historiador no Brasil oitocentista
Oliveira, Maria da Glória de;
Revista Brasileira de História , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-01882010000100003
Abstract: in the 19th century brazil, a historiographical regime with scientific purposes turned ineluctable the question about conditions of possibility for national historical writing. no less crucial than this, the inquiry on how should be the historian also has crossed the debate. the article analyses figurations which defined qualities and specific competences for the historical studies, especially on men of letters' biographies, published in the revista of the instituto histórico e geográfico brasileiro, in the 19th century.
Brasileiros ilustres no tribunal da posteridade: biografia, memória e experiência da história no Brasil oitocentista
Oliveira, Maria da Glória de;
Varia Historia , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-87752010000100015
Abstract: the article analyses biographic writings as a task of the instituto histórico e geográfico brasileiro historiographical project in the 19th century brazil, based on joaquim manoel de macedo’s speeches and joaquim caetano fernandes pinheiro’s biographic studies. according to them, biography served to reinforce the memory of illustrious brazilians by sharing ambitions of truth and impartiality on past representation with historic writings. otherwise, the evocation of a "tribunal of posterity", justifying the work of memory and the biographic writing, was bonded with history experience as a force of justice and morality.

More adequate probability distributions to represent the saturated soil hydraulic conductivity
Mesquita, Maria da Glória Bastos de Freitas;Moraes, Sérgio Oliveira;Corrente, José Eduardo;
Scientia Agricola , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-90162002000400025
Abstract: the saturated soil hydraulic conductivity (ksat) is one of the most relevant variables in studies of water and solute movement in the soil. its determination in the laboratory and in the field yields high dispersion results, which could be an indication that this variable has a no symmetrical distribution. adjustment of the normal, lognormal, gamma and beta distributions were examined in order to search for a probability were density function that would more adequately describe the distribution of this variable. the experiment consisted in determining the saturated hydraulic conductivity, through the constant head permeameter method, in undisturbed samples of three soils of different textures from the central western region of the s?o paulo state, brazil, and submitting the results to the statistical tests for identification of the most adequate asymmetrical distribution to represent them. ksat presented high variability, non normal distribution and lognormal, gamma and beta distributions fit. the lognormal probability density function was the most indicated to describe the variable, due to the verified greater agreement.
Influência antrópica em três ecótonos floresta/campo da Floresta Atlantica do Sudeste do Brasil: análise de micropartículas carbonizadas em solos superficiais
De Oliveira, Paulo Eduardo;Passacantili, Maria da Glória Silva Bispo;
Hoehnea , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S2236-89062010000400008
Abstract: charred microscopic particles found in superficial soils were quantified to determine the intensity of fires in three areas of the atlantic rainforest of southeastern brazil. charred particles were separated into three main size categories: < 25 μm, 26 to 50 μm and > 51 μm. the data suggest that all areas were subjected to fires in recent times. the savannas of linhares were the most affected by fires in an order of magnitude up to 10 times that observed in s?o paulo, however the linhares forests showed a low level of fire impact. on the other hand, the two forest localities of s?o paulo showed high frequency of fires. these results suggest that fire can be a determining factor in the physiognomy of the vegetation. however, there is no evidence that the presence of forest/savanna mosaics can be explained only by the incidence of anthropogenic fires.
Plant regeneration from proroplasts of alfalfa (Medicago sativa) via somatic embryogenesis
Monteiro Mariza,Appezzato-da-Glória Beatriz,Valarini Maria José,Oliveira Carlos Alberto de
Scientia Agricola , 2003,
Abstract: Alfalfa is one of the most frequently studied species from the production of tissue culture-derived embryos point of view. In this study, five alfalfa cultivars were analyzed with reference to their ability to regenerate plants from protoplast cultures via somatic embryogenesis. Plant regeneration from leaf-derived protoplasts isolated from the cultivar Rangelander was achieved using a protocol defined for alfalfa cell suspension-derived embryogenesis. Because of its high efficiency, this procedure is recommended for protoplast electroporation-mediated genetic transformation of alfalfa.

Mesquita, Maria da Glória Bastos de Freitas;Moraes, Sérgio Oliveira;Peruchi, Fernanda;Tereza, Maria de Carvalho;
Ciência e Agrotecnologia , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-70542007000600001
Abstract: the saturated hydraulic conductivity of the soil (ksat) due to its importance in inform about the capacity of transport of water, solutes and chemical substances in the soil should be well characterized, since in general, this value is used in calculations of flows in the soil. aiming at proposing an alternative to characterize the ksat, starting from a series of data, the function density of probability lognormal was used to obtain the values of the property which corresponde to the levels of occurrence probability from 5 to 95%, in order to describe and to indicate better values to be adopted as ksat for the considered area. as a result, it was obtained an analysis of the values of the variable in terms of occurrence probability. this representation, associating each value to a probability level, allows to the researcher to evaluate the error on estimation of measurements that depend on ksat, due to the fact that, this property in the soil presents high variability.
