Abstract: Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) is a heterogeneous group of hereditable connective tissue disorders characterized by articular hypermobility, skin hyperextensibility, and tissue fragility. EDS type IV being the most life-threatening form. It is characterized by a type III collagen deficiency and this disease involves a col3A1 gene mutation (5, 6). We report the case of a 47 year-old woman with type IV EDS. Each of her two children presented clinical elements of EDS: her daughter (25 years old) and her son (18 years old). Clinic and genetic heterogeneity of the disease is very evident in this family, the three family members presenting clinical symptoms and comorbidities which made difficult the attempt to integrate them in a certain EDS type; these three cases presented a various clinical expression and severity. Another particularity is also represented by the presence and high frequency of associated spontaneous bone fractures.

Abstract: The chromosomal abnormalities (aneuploidies) have a frequency of 1 in 250 live new borns, and 1/3 of them are represented by the Down syndrome (1).This syndrome was described the first time in 1866 by Langdon Down, and one of the elements his description underlined was the thickened skin (“the skin seems too large for their bodies”). In 1966, 100 years after the original essay of Down, it became possible to diagnose the trisomy 21 prenatally by the karyotype of cultured amniotic fluid cells. Therefore, it was demonstrated that the syndrome is produced when either a whole or a part of the long arm of chromosome 21 is present in three copies instead of two. This can occur as a result of three separate mechanisms: non-dysjunction (95% cases), translocation and mosaicism. As this aneuploidy not only is the most frequent, but also it causes one third of the severe mental retardation in children, its’ screening became of outmost importance. But, as an amniocentesis in every pregnancy would not have the economic efficiency, as well as ethical and medical support, the question of individualising a risk group arises. This paper tries to evaluate different risk factors, in the perspective of their importance in the clinical decision.

Revista de Turism : Studii si Cercetari in Turism , 2011,
Abstract: There is now an increasing trend of mundane and fashionable world to live together in with the environment, to spend more time in nature, to be closer to all that is unpolluted, peaceful and less known. Tourists requiring nature holidays in rural areas are becoming more and more. Ecotourism in the countryside or in the full nature is increasingly desired by people who live in urban areas with a high financial situation, but stressed out, eager to return to the nature, to the life in rural communities. Ecotourism, sustainable tourism and slow travel- all this forms of tourism have common points in terms of quality of time spent by tourists on holiday and allow them to appreciate a holiday spent far more profound, enabling them to return to long forgotten places and traditions, especially for tourists who come from highly developed countries or in those areas where they only partially preserved traditions and customs, living conditions.

Abstract: Vitiligo represents a skin pathology characterized by white areas. The mechanism of occurrence of this disease has many unknown. There are the authors who consider that oxidative stress might be involved in the pathogenesis of this disease. Smoking as risk factor would accelerate the emergence and evolution of this disease. The purpose of this paper was to assess markers of oxidative stress in this context. In a dermatology outpatient between February 2008 and May 2009 we evaluated 25 patients with Vitiligo and nicotine-dependence by means of Fagerstrom test and 24 healthy controls subjects of a similar age and sex distribution. We measured their indicators of oxidative stress such as catalase (CAT), superoxidedismutase (SOD), glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) in erythrocytes, and plasma malondialdehyde (MDA) by spectrophotometry.

Abstract: Prostate cancer is responsible for 3% of all deaths in the Western world in men over 55 years old. Molecular biomarkers represent an important diagnostic tool in prostate cancer, because at a specific stage, they reflect the physiologic state of a cell and might be vital for the identification of early prostate cancer and subjects at risk of developing this disease. Many biomarkers have been described in human serum, urine, seminal fluid and histological specimens that exhibit varying capacities to detect prostate cancer, to monitor the disease progression, help in predicting the disease recurrence and therapeutic treatment efficacy

Abstract: Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death in men. Epigenetic alterations including hypermethylation of gene promoters are believed to be the early events in neoplastic progression and thus these methylated genes can serve as biomarkers for the early detection of cancer from clinical specimens, such as: tissue biopsies, serum and urine.Early detection of PCa from body fluids, can be done by molecular detection of some epigenetic biomarkers, such as: GSTP1, RASSF1A and RARβ2 gene promoters

Abstract: The paper presents the retail market in Romania, the main retailers and their evolution in our country. The theme is better highlighted in the foreign professional literature, but also Romanian economists analyzed some features of this subject. The purpose of this paper was to examine and interpret how Romanian retailers evolved during the period 2002-2009. A qualitative method was chosen for this research, and the empirical data was gathered from the companies in the Romanian retail sector. Primary data was collected through annual information from their websites, annual reports and different articles. The research is useful for companies, in order to understand and anticipate the tendencies in the field.

Abstract: The surprising connection of the terms “milk” and “black”, which represents the leitmotif and structuring symbol in the poem Death Fugue by Paul Celan, also appeared in various forms, during the year 1939, in the works of two other poets, living in Chernovtsy, namely Alfred Margul Sperber and Rose Ausl nder. As early as January 1939, this oxymoron has appeared in the poem More Night by Vasile Voiculescu, being published in the journal “Gandirea” / “The Thinking”, in Bucharest. In Voiculescu’s poem, the mystical significance of “black milk” - that comprises within itself two icons: the life-giving milk and the renewing wine - seems to be appropriate, considering the spiritual development of the poet. As regards Paul Celan, the understanding of this double symbol is more difficult because the current interpretation is a political one. Beyond the Holocaust black and white smoke rising as a witness of the mass killing of Hebrews, one can interpret, though, the “black milk” as an allusion to Shekinah, the flow of life that nourishes all living creatures. This interpretation becomes possible through the scales proposed by Hans-Georg Gadamer and Otto P ggeler.

Abstract: The paper is about the model of the five competitive forces of Michael Porter. In the first part, I have presented the theoretical aspects of the model and after that, I tried to apply the model on the retail market in Romania. I used data gathered from national and international institutes of market research and also from the information offered by the main retailers on their web sites. The retail market in our country is not very good crystalized, but has had a good evolution in the last years. The competition is intense, the barriers are relatively high, the power of national supplyers is diminished by the integration of Romania in European Union, the power of consumers is moderate and the substitutes appear as discount stores and e-retailing.

Abstract: Starting from 1999 sixteen countries have adopted euro as a single currency. Considering that the Maastricht Treaty stipulates that all the European Union countries must adopt euro once they meet the requirements stipulated it is not a question of “if to join the euro area”, but rather of “when”. Therefore adopting euro currency is not and it should not be a reversible process. The decision to participate the monetary union represents the expression of a decision to move forward, while leaving it would be nothing else but a step back.
