Abstract: objectives: to assess breastfeeding time in children under 24 months old and determine factors associated to exclusive breastfeeding in the state of pernambuco. methods: cross sectional study of 852 children aged 24 months old and younger within a sample of 2078 children under five years old selected for the ii state health and nutrition survey. data was collected for the period between february and may, 1997. survival analysis for median calculation of breastfeeding and housing, per capita income, maternal education level, prenatal care, breastfeeding orientation, delivery type and birthweight was performed. results: survival analysis determined exclusive, predominant and total breastfeeding median time of 24.77 and 112 days respectively. median exclusive breastfeeding time was significantly longer among the children living in the metropolitan region of recife (148 days) whose mothers had incomes above two minimum wages (201 days), who had six or more prenatal medical visits (129 days) and received breastfeeding instructions during prenatal care (126 days). birthweight, maternal literacy and type of delivery did not significantly influence exclusive breastfeeding. conclusions: breastfeeding time in pernambuco was determined specially in the metropolitan region of recife indicating that prenatal care is one of the opportunity factors to orient and encourage mothers to breastfeed their infants.
Prevalence of prematurity in neonatal unit of internment a hospital school in recife-pe city, brazil

Abstract: Objective: to verify the prevalence of premature births between the months of January 2007 to December 2007, in a neonatal ICU at a University Hospital in the city of Recife-PE. Methodology: this is about a descriptive study, exploratory and transversal, from quantitative approach. The sample was taken from 1738 charts of newborns admitted at the neonatal ICU in 2007; of those 364 were premature newborns. The data collection started after authorization by the Ethic and Research Committee of the Health Sciences Center. The data was analyzed by the EPI-INFO 3.3.2 software. It was used descriptive statistics with simple frequency distribution. Results: The prevalence of prematurity during the studied period was 21%. Mother’s age ranged mainly from 20 to 35 years old (64.3%) and 38.7% of them had 4 to 7 years of study. Of the total of the pregnant women 42.9% went to 4-5 prenatal appointments and most of the neonates were moderate premature with gestational age at birth between 31 and 34 weeks. Conclusion: Premature births represented a high percentage of the total births in the study. We recommend educational activities compatible with the level of instruction and age of the pregnant women to prevent premature births. Abstract: objectives: to examine health-care professionals' representations of the families of children and adolescents who have been victims of violent crime at a public-sector health referral center in recife, in the brazilian state of pernambuco. methods: ten semi-structured interviews were conducted with psychologists, health professionals, teachers and social workers. these interviews were supplemented by participant observation. the resulting material was submitted to content analysis by theme. results: the professionals recognized the need to work with the family group by way of various types of intervention and highlighted the initial suffering provoked in the families by the need for the public authorities to interfere. a certain polarization was observed in the representations of families with a history of sexual abuse, compared to other kinds. the term "drop out" was used to refer to families failing to adhere to the treatment provided and the representation of families that failed to complete the treatment as "irresponsible". conclusions: there is a risk for professionals to stereotype as "uncommitted" those families that fail to adhere to treatment, when they may have experienced difficulties fitting this in with their work schedule. this problem may be especially severe in families headed by women. there are also some communication problems with counselors, which undermines the potential for success of such interventions.

Abstract: objectives: to analyze the features of the interactive psychodynamics of the interaction of mothers with seriously malnourished hospitalized children. methods: qualitative research based on psychoanalysis, using semi-structured interviews, observations and video recordings. content analysis was applied to representative topics. results: a study was conducted of eight pairs consisting of a biological mother and seriously malnourished child aged between six and 18 months of age hospitaized at the instituto materno infantil prof. fernando figueira-imip, in the city of recife, state pernambuco, brazil. three central topics were identified, illustrating the process of becoming a parent, its importance for interactive psychodynamics, factors that interfere in the formation/rupture of the mother-child bond, its repercussions on the situation of malnutrition and the way it manifests itself in a context of hospitalization. conclusions: from the preliminary analysis, the mutual influence of the mother and the child on the construction of the interaction and the complexity of the functional disharmonies is reinforced, suggesting that extreme states of malnutrition may be associated to nutritional privation and/or errors, as well as the experiences of psycho-affective privation or excess. the observation of mother-child interaction at critical moments, such as malnutrition and hospitalization, may help family and health professionals to understand how the illness develops, and suggest the need for integrated health care.

Abstract: the study aimed to examine the relevant published literature to food practices in the first year of life of teenage mothers' children, through an integrative review within lilacs, medline and cochrane, databases from 2000 to 2010. we used the keywords: adolescent, breastfeeding, mixed feeding and infant nutrition, from which we selected eleven articles that composed the study sample. the results indicated the paucity of published research on the proposed topic, especially for those focusing on complementary feeding, revealing a gap in global production on the subject. new researches, therefore, need to be developed with a focus on teenage mothers, exploring infant feeding in all its dimensions.

Abstract: objectives: to identify the meaning of being an accompanying mother to a hospitalized premature and low birthweight newborn and participant of a multidisciplinary support group. methods: qualitative research performed through a descriptive exploratory study at the hospital das clínicas da universidade federal de pernambuco with data collected through observation and taped interviews with 16 accompanying mothers of hospitalized infants in the period of march to december, 2003. according to inclusion criteria to theoretical saturation in response to two guiding questions, content analysis through cross sectional thematic analysis was made. results: age of women varied between 15 and 28 years old and eleven of them already had children. based on maternal perception of the experience, four core themes were identified: suffering caused by family separation and support deprivation; maternal facilities viewed as a prison not permitting discharge without the child and as a place for new friendships, advice and conflicts. conclusions: the study suggests a humane need to caring. a collectively and positively learning within a formal context might serve as an input for different realities.
Resilience process of adolescent girls with experiences in recife streets ― a human ecology view

Abstract: Objective: investigating the resilience process of adolescent girls with experiences in Recife city streets, living in a municipal shelter. Methods: descriptive and exploratory study, transversal and qualitative approach. The theoretical referencial will use the elements of resilience concept and the model of Human Bioecology Development. The sample will be for convenience and collecting data will use: a) semistructuralized questionnaire for the social and demographic profile of the group; b) the Incomplet History Test (IHT), that identifies personal characteristics of the social ability, one of the criteria to evaluate resilience potential; c) Map of Five Fields (MFF), that evaluates the structure and quality of relationships, that influences the ability of coping difficulties; d) semistructuralized interview with guiding questions about life in family, in streets and in the shelter. The IHT and MFF evaluation will follow the respective norms. The Content Analysis will follow the form conceived by Bardin in the thematic modality. Expected results: articulating the results of the pshycometric tests with the interview, it is suposed to improve the knowledge on these adolescents’ lives and contribute for ressocialization policy.
Necrotizing enterocolitis in newborn from a reference hospital in recife: epidemiological study

Abstract: The mainly objective of this study was to develop an epidemiologic study about necrotizing enterocolitis among newborn from a maternale-infantile reference hospital at Recife city, Pernambuco, Brazil. This is about a descriptive study, transversal, retrospective, from quantitative approach. The random sample was from newborn carries of necrotizing enterocolitis, been born to July from December 2004. The data collection was carried out from secondary data of handbooks, using an instrument and analyzing through Software Epi-info 3.3.2. The findings showed the incidence from 2,04% of necrotizing enterocolitis and 61,9% of mortality. The main motherly unleashed was the cesarean childbirth with 42,9% of the cases, and besides the unleash factors associates to new-born had predominated the prematurely 85,7%, the low weight to born 90,5% and alimentary formula use 95,2%. There was a predominance of abdominal distension and painful abdomen among the presented clinical manifestations. Regards to nursing care, the gauging of the abdominal perimeter and auscultators of the hydrocarbons noises had not been evaluated routinely during the specific physical examination. As conclusions, front to high associated mortality the pathology, among the suggested recommendations, is distinguished the professional necessity make conscience about the semiotics importance, examining clinically the newborn and in repeatedly due to variation of clinical manifestations.
Avalia o de um ambiente digital de aprendizagem pelo usuário User assessment of a digital learning environment

Abstract: OBJETIVO: Avaliar o ambiente digital de aprendizagem "Aleitamento Materno do Prematuro" sob a perspectiva do usuário. MéTODO: Estudo descritivo, transversal com análise quantitativa de dados; amostra composta por 30 m es de prematuros hospitalizados em uma unidade neonatal do Sudeste do País para a avalia o da impress o geral e do conteúdo do ambiente digital. RESULTADOS: Os critérios "bom" e "ótimo" relativos a impress o geral (visual, facilidade de uso e navegabilidade) e conteúdo (aprendizagem sem auxílio e aleitamento materno) do ambiente digital de aprendizagem atingiram a concordancia esperada (acima de 70%). CONCLUS O: O ambiente digital "Aleitamento Materno do Prematuro" foi considerado pelos usuários de fácil uso, informativo e importante para apoiar a m e do prematuro nos aspectos relacionados ao aleitamento materno. OBJECTIVE: To assess the digital learning environment "Breastfeeding of Premature Infants" from users' perspective. METHOD: Descriptive and cross-sectional study with quantitative data analysis; sample of 30 mothers of hospitalized premature infants at a neonatal unit in the Brazilian Southeast to assess the users' impression in general and about the contents of the digital environment. RESULTS: The criteria "good" and "excellent" for the general impression (visual, user friendliness and navigability) and contents (independent learning and breastfeeding) of the digital learning environment reached the expected agreement level (superior to 70%). CONCLUSION: The users considered the digital environment "Breastfeeding of Premature Infants" easy to use, informative and important to support the mothers of premature infants with breastfeeding aspects.

Abstract: Esta pesquisa teve como objetivo avaliar as dificuldades e facilidades enfrentadas por enfermeiros da Estratégia de Saúde da Família durante o processo de implementa o de uma interven o educativa em vigilancia do desenvolvimento infantil. A abordagem utilizada foi qualitativa, com onze enfermeiros que participaram de oficinas de capacita o em vigilancia do desenvolvimento no contexto da Aten o Integrada às Doen as Prevalentes na Infancia. Os dados foram coletados nos meses de maio e junho de 2009 e analisados a partir do método de análise de conteúdo, utilizando-se a modalidade temática. Foram identificados quatro núcleos temáticos: avalia o do Curso de capacita o em vigilancia do desenvolvimento infantil; pontos dificultadores para aplicar os conhecimentos adquiridos; pontos facilitadores proporcionados pelo curso e transforma o da prática a partir dos conhecimentos adquiridos na capacita o. Destaca-se a premência de incorporar conteúdos que priorizem quest es voltadas para a vigilancia do desenvolvimento infantil no ensino de gradua o em enfermagem e na residência em saúde da família. Investigación que objetivó evaluar las dificultades y facilidades experimentadas por enfermeros de la Estrategia Salud de la Familia durante la implementación de una intervención educativa de vigilancia del desarrollo infantil. Se utilizó abordaje cualitativo, con once enfermeros participantes de talleres de capacitación en vigilancia del desarrollo en contexto de la Atención Integrada de Enfermedades Prevalentes en la Infancia. Datos recolectados entre mayo y junio de 2009, analizados según análisis de contenido, modalidad temática. Fueron identificados cuatro núcleos temáticos: evaluación del Curso de Capacitación en Vigilancia del Desarrollo Infantil; Puntos de dificultad para aplicar los conocimientos adquiridos; Puntos de facilidad proporcionados por el curso y Transformación de la práctica a partir del conocimiento adquirido en la Capacitación. Se destaca el apremio por incorporar contenidos que prioricen cuestiones apuntando a la vigilancia del desarrollo infantil en la ense anza de graduación de enfermería y en la residencia en Salud de la Familia. The objective of this study was to assess the difficulties experienced by Family Health Strategy nurses in implementing an educational intervention regarding developmental surveillance.
