Mori, Maria Elizabeth;Coelho, Vera Lúcia Decnop;Estrella, Renata da Costa Netto;
Cadernos de Saúde Pública , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-311X2006000900013
Abstract: this study focused on psychological care for middle-aged women in public health services in the federal district (brasilia), brazil. the article discusses women's health and more specifically menopause and its place in brazilian public health policies. the survey confirmed the lack of psychological support for menopausal women. in most cases only outpatient medical care was offered. no psychologist had been designated in any of the units surveyed to assist these women. the study concludes that this period of women's life has failed to receive psychological care in brazil, thus neglecting the principles of the unified national health system. menopausal women deserve comprehensive health care, including attention to conflicts related to biological, psychological, and socio-cultural dimensions of aging, thus contributing to the process of working through maturity.

This new vision must be articulated withcriteria, methodologies and practices that enable companies, civil society and state, working in a co- participatory wayenhancing the development of peoples and country.This article wants to show the importance and need for social responsibility actions under the approach of communitypsychology methodological intervention. Four elements, which resemble agreement: between both practices, have beendescribed emphasizing the community as subject and object of intervention, the ethical reasons of work, the actions effectson social transformation and the role of socially responsible professionals.

Open Journal of Pediatrics (OJPed) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/ojped.2013.33045
Abstract:

Background: Items from respiratory questionnaires validated in older children are often used in research studies of preterm infants, although they have not been validated in this population. We aimed to assess both test-retest reliability and convergent validity of a group of commonly used respiratory questionnaire items in a cohort of preterm infants. Methods: The health status of 300 preterm infants was assessed by telephone questionnaire as part of a prospective cohort study. The questionnaire items analyzed in this study included six commonly used respiratory questions. The questionnaire responses used in this analysis were from the telephone follow-up in this cohort at six months of age adjusted for prematurity. A repeat interview one to two weeks after this interview was performed in a subset of subjects to assess test-retest reliability. The convergent validity of the respiratory items was also assessed by calculating the associations among the responses to the respiratory questions. Results: A total of 43 infants were singletons that met the criteria for test-retest reliability analysis. All of the respiratory questions demonstrated fair to strong test-retest reliability. Among 206 respondents, respiratory questionnaire items also demonstrated strong convergent validity, in that caretakers reporting wheezing or whistling in the chest were significantly more likely to also report other respiratory events. Conclusions: This selection of standard respiratory questionnaire items performed well for research purposes in this population.

Japanese Are Modest Even When They Are Winners: Competence Ratings of Winners and Losers in Social Comparison  [PDF]
Kazuo Mori, Hideko Mori
Psychology (PSYCH) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2013.411119
Abstract:

Social comparison experiments in two different social conditions, competing between friends and between strangers, were carried out with 88 Japanese male undergraduates. Participants were asked to come to the laboratory in friend pairs to participate in the experiment. Two pairs were randomly combined for each experimental session. In the Between-Friends condition, one of the two pairs solved 20 anagrams competitively while the other pair observed them. In the Between-Strangers condition, one performer and one observer were randomly chosen in each pair and the performers solved anagram tasks competitively. As in our previous study, the anagram tasks were presented utilizing a presentation trick so that one performer-and-observer group viewed easier anagrams than the other group without their noticing the difference. As intended, those who viewed the easier anagrams outperformed the others, becoming winners in all sessions. No participants noticed the trick. After the task, all four participants rated the ability of the two performers including themselves. Their ability ratings showed that they tended to evaluate their own ability modestly. Even winners consistently rated themselves lower than the others rated them. Two possible explanations of why Japanese participants made such modest responses were presented and discussed.

Revista Peruana de Epidemiologia , 2009,
Abstract: Objective: To evaluate the internal and concurrent validity of the Beck Depression Inventory for Primary Care (BDI-PC) in pregnant women from Lima, Peru. Methods: We perform an analytic observational cross-sectional study at the Instituto Nacional Materno Perinatal (INMP). The study included 307 pregnant women attending the Fetal Medicine Service at the INMP, from May to June 2008. To assess theconcurrent validity we used the Edinburgh Depression Scale (EPDS), and calculated Cronbach’s Alpha, Pearson's Correlation Coefficient and we performed an exploratory factor analysis with varimax rotation. Results: The internal consistency for the BDI-PC was moderate (Cronbach’s Alpha 0.683), while the internal consistency for EPDS was high (Cronbach’s Alpha 0.826). The BDI-PC was not unidimensional, it had two factors which explained 49% of the variation. The Pearson's Correlation between BDI-PC and EPDS was0.600 (p<0.001). The exploratory factor analysis showed the lack of an anxious component in the twodimensionality of BDI-PC. Conclusions: The study shows that the BDI-PC presents, on pregnant women, a moderate internal and concurrent validity.
