Revista Raz?o Contábil & Finan?as , 2012,

Multi-scalar governance, transnational action, a globally structured educational agenda and world ambitious educational models fabricate the terrain where programs and protagonist around the constitutionalization of the neoliberal project and the construction of education as a human right or as a merchandise. Analysis and evaluation of distribution of heavy metals in an old urban solid waste landfill “Aterro Invernadinha”
Maria Elisabete Machado et al.
Evidência : Ciência e Biotecnologia - Interdisciplinar , 2011,
Abstract: The metal contamination in areas that received municipal solid waste (MSW) is a serious environmental problem facing today. This study evaluated the content and distribution of heavy metals nickel (Ni), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), chromium (Cr), cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb) in different depths in the old disposal area of MSW, called “Aterro Invernadinha”, which is located in the city of Passo Fundo, RS. The methodology of the study was based on therealization of boreholes, sampling of soil in different depths (0-1 m, 1-2 m and 2-3 m) and analysis of metals usingthe method 3050B, the quantification of the levels of metals in the study was performed by atomic absorptionspectroscopy with flame. Thereafter, there was statistical and geostatistical unidirectional horizontal to Cu, Zn andCr, using the software GSLIB and VarioWin. The same method of collection and processing of data was performedin a control area, free of contamination, located near of the old landfill (Reserva Arlindo Haas). The results showhigh levels of metals in the soil covering (0-1 m) and a large variability in the data area of the landfill. Geostatisticsis a powerful tool for studying the distribution of spatial data and to conclude that there is contamination by Zn inall the course, while for Cu and Cr is punctual and random.

Abstract: guaco (mikania glomerata sprenguel) sprout production was studied by the cutting technique using stem cuttings at different developmental phases (phases are defined as hardwood, semi-hardwood, softwood or herbaceous). developmental phases were separated into a total of eight treatments: two kinds of hardwood cuttings - straight and mallet, both without leaves; semi-hardwood, softwood and herbaceous cuttings were tested with and without leaves. these treatments were organized in random blocks, each with four replicates of 10 cuttings. at 45 days, the cutting precocity was evaluated through the criteria: presence of sprouts; length of longest sprout. at 60 days the cutting establishment was re-evaluated with the additional criteria: presence of adventitious roots; dry weights of above-ground and below-ground portions of cuttings. the following characteristics were also examined, with the same experimental design as described above: presence of pre-formed roots; visual estimate of starch concentration (high, medium, low) after treatment with 0.2% lugol; visual estimate of phenol concentration (high, medium, low) after treatment with aqueous 1.0% ferrous chloride. there were significant treatment effects on sprout production. the semi-hardwood branches with leaves were ideal to prepare cuttings because they favor the precocity of sprouts and their establishment.
Apoptotic cell and phagocyte interplay: recognition and consequences in different cell systems

Abstract: cell death by apoptosis is characterized by specific biochemical changes, including the exposure of multiple ligands, expected to tag the dying cell for prompt recognition by phagocytes. in non-pathological conditions, an efficient clearance is assured by the redundant interaction between apoptotic cell ligands and multiple receptor molecules present on the engulfing cell surface. this review concentrates on the molecular interactions operating in mammalian and non-mammalian systems for apoptotic cell recognition, as well as on the consequences of their signaling. furthermore, some cellular models where the exposure of the phosphatidylserine (ps) phospholipid, a classical hallmark of the apoptotic phenotype, is not followed by cell death will be discussed.
