Maria-Jesus Corrales-Arroyo,Maria Angeles Del Real-Francia,Amalia Hernandez-Gonzalez,Jose Manuel Morales Puebla
Journal of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases , 2012,
Abstract: Streptococcus suis is a coccus Gram positive, anaerobic optional. Human infection by this microorganism is a zoonoticdisease that usually presents as purulent meningitis. Mortality is low but is common sequelae. A case of meningitis byS. suis secondary to contact with pigs is presented here. A 35-year-old male patient was admitted to the hospital complainingof high fever, malaise, vomiting and headache. A physical examination revealed decreased level of consciousness, with adequate response to painful stimulus and his eyes with deconjugated gaze. S. suis was isolated in bloodculture. He was treated with cefotaxime, vancomycin and acyclovir in the intensive care unit. He experienced progressiveimprovement. He was discharged with severe deafness and a minimally unstable gait as sequellae. J Microbiol Infect Dis2012; 2(4): 160-162Key words: Streptococcus suis, meningitis, deafness.
Assessing Data Quality of Integrated Data by Quality Aggregation of its Ancestors

Anales Venezolanos de Nutrición , 2008,
Abstract: vitamin a (va) is an essential micronutrient for the immune system and several researchs have shown a synergic relationship between vitamin a status and morbidity. the aim was to show the relationship between serum retinol level, conjunctival impression cytology (cic), anthropometric status, and morbidity in low income school children. 445 children (both genders) between 4 and 13 years old were assessed. serum retinol levels (hplc-r), creactive protein (nefelometry) and cic (icepo), anthropometric indicators (weight-height (wh), height-age (ha) according to national references values), morbidity (diarrhea, respiratory tract infections, measles, and parasitosis) two months prior to the evaluation, were determined. the poverty was 92.3%, wasting (wh ≤ p10) 7%, overweight (wh > p90) 10.8%, and stunting (ha = p3) 1.5%. 18% had one or more diarrhea episodes, 39.8% upper respiratory tract infections, 28.1% lower respiratory tract infections, and 32.8% intestinal parasitosis; 10.3% showed a high level of c-reactive protein (crp > 10mg/l). the average retinol level was 35.7 ± 9.2μg/dl, with 0.7% low level (< 20μg/dl), 27.4% of the children at risk of vitamin a deficiency (20-30μg/dl), and 9.5% deficient according cic. there was a significant correlation between serum retinol and cic, and a significant association between serum retinol and upper respiratory tract infections, but not between morbidity and cic. there was not a significant association between anthropometric indicators and vitamin a status and morbidity. in this study it was not possible to demonstrate the relationship between vitamin a status and diarrhea, measles, lower respiratory tract infections and parasitosis but the high prevalence of marginal serum retinol levels and morbidity in this group makes it susceptible to nutritional surveillance. an venez nutr 2008;21 (1): 5-13.

Abstract: Adiponectin is an adipokine secreted by white adipocytes involved in regulating insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues. Secretion of adiponectin in adipocytes relies on the endosomal system, however, the intracellular machinery involved in mediating adiponectin release is unknown. We have previously reported that intracellular adiponectin partially compartmentalizes with rab 5 and rab11, markers for the early/sorting and recycling compartments respectively. Here we have examined the role of several rab11 downstream effector proteins (rab11 FIPs) in regulating adiponectin trafficking and secretion. Overexpression of wild type rab11 FIP1, FIP3 and FIP5 decreased the amount of secreted adiponectin expressed in HEK293 cells, whereas overexpression of rab11 FIP2 or FIP4 had no effect. Furthermore shRNA-mediated depletion of FIP1 enhanced adiponectin release whereas knock down of FIP5 decreased adiponectin secretion. Knock down of FIP3 had no effect. In 3T3L1 adipocytes, endogenous FIP1 co-distributed intracellularly with endogenous adiponectin and FIP1 depletion enhanced adiponectin release without altering insulin-mediated trafficking of the glucose transporter Glut4. While adiponectin receptors internalized with transferrin receptors, there were no differences in transferrin receptor recycling between wild type and FIP1 depleted adipocytes. Consistent with its inhibitory role, FIP1 expression was decreased during adipocyte differentiation, by treatment with thiazolidinediones, and with increased BMI in humans. In contrast, FIP1 expression increased upon exposure of adipocytes to TNFα. In all, our findings identify FIP1 as a novel protein involved in the regulation of adiponectin trafficking and release.
A Simple Optical Model for the Swelling Evaluation in Polymer Nanocomposites

Journal of Sensors , 2009, DOI: 10.1155/2009/703206
Abstract: In the present study, we report on a simple optical method based on thin film interferometry for the swelling evaluation in polymer nanocomposite layers used for gas sensing applications. We show that white light interferometry can be profitably applied to characterize scattering materials such as polymer/carbon black nanocomposites. A properly adjusted experimental setup was implemented to monitor the swelling behavior of the sensitive films in real device operating conditions. In particular, the behavior of poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (PHEMA) and of carbon black/PHEMA nanocomposite layers, used for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) detection, was investigated and measured under ethanol vapors exposure (max 1%). The method is very sensitive and the swelling in the range of only few nanometers can be measured. Interestingly, we have found that the nanocomposite undergoes a more pronounced swelling process with respect to pristine polymer. Ethanol diffusion coefficients in the nanocomposite were evaluated.

Open Journal of Pediatrics (OJPed) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/ojped.2012.23040
Abstract: Background: Spitz nevus is uncommon, benign melanocytic neoplasm that may show some clinical, dermoscopical and histological features of melanoma. It occurs often in childhood, but may appear also in early adulthood. Rare congenital cases have been reported in literature. It is frequently located on the face and the lower extremities, but in some cases may appears on the trunk. Methods: We report a case of a 9-years-old girl presented to our Dermatology Unit because of the presence of a pigmented lesion on her right leg, 4 mm in diameter, which was clinically and dermoscopically diagnosed as Spitz nevus. We described the clinical and dermoscopic features that we observed every six months, over 11 years follow-up period. Objective: Our observation show that the globular, the starburst, the homogeneous patterns and diffuse brown colour with diffuse hypopigmented areas may be the different expression that correspond to possible evolutionary phases of pigmented Spitz nevus.

ABSTRACT This text analyzes the evolution and alterations in legal system of Constitutional State. These alterations consist in ductility in the legislation. But, also, these alterations consist in complexity assumed by the judicial function, application and interpretation of the legal norms, for this constitutional model
