Saccuti, Cecília Ferreira;Soares, Maria Albertina de Miranda;Falco, José Ricardo Penteado;Fernandez, Maria Aparecida;
Genetics and Molecular Biology , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S1415-47572005000500015
Abstract: we determined the genome size of the brazilian sciarid flies bradysia hygida, rhynchosciara americana and trichosia pubescens (diptera: sciaridae) using absorbance measurements of feulgen-stained nuclei belonging to these species (and chicken erythrocytes as a standard) to calculate the amount of dna in picograms (pg) and the number of base pairs (bp), or c-value, for each of these species. the c-values were: 3 x 108 bp (0.31 pg) for b. hygida; 3.6 x 108 bp (0.37 pg) for r. americana; and 1 x 109 bp (1.03 pg) for t. pubescens. the sciarids investigated in this work had considerably higher c-values than the average for previously described dipteran species, including d. melanogaster.

Saupe, Rosita;Nietche, Elisabeta Albertina;Cestari, Maria Elisabeth;Giorgi, Maria Denise Mesadri;Krahl, M?nica;
Revista Latino-Americana de Enfermagem , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-11692004000400009
Abstract: this research involved six nursing courses located in the south of brazil and aimed to find out and evaluate the quality of life of the students. the model whoqol bref model of the world health organization was adopted for data collection and analysis and revealed sensitivity for the intended diagnosis. the results indicated that 64% of the students mention satisfaction with their quality of life, but 36% present significant problems, which demand specific needs and justify the implantation of support programs to face the situations of suffering.
The Influence of Fran ois Delsarte’s Ideas on the Modernity of Dance
Maria Albertina Silva Grebler
Revista Brasileira de Estudos da Presen?a , 2012,
Abstract: This study discusses the influence Fran ois Delsarte’s ideas had on the pioneers of modern dance. Having rejected books on gestural rhetoric of his own time to conduct a rigorous study on human behavior in strong emotional situations, Delsarte established principles and systematized exercises that provided the pioneers of modern dance an alternative method of interpretation and creation, more centered on the subject and on their relationship with the environment, than on the imitation of traditional gestures. Delsarte’s system allowed modern creators to consider the took as a raw material for a research that was no longer defined by traditional techniques, but by the pursuit of a subjective form of corporeality.

Abstract: The molecular mechanisms of plant recognition, colonization, and nutrient exchange between diazotrophic endophytes and plants are scarcely known. Herbaspirillum seropedicae is an endophytic bacterium capable of colonizing intercellular spaces of grasses such as rice and sugar cane. The genome of H. seropedicae strain SmR1 was sequenced and annotated by The Paraná State Genome Programme—GENOPAR. The genome is composed of a circular chromosome of 5,513,887 bp and contains a total of 4,804 genes. The genome sequence revealed that H. seropedicae is a highly versatile microorganism with capacity to metabolize a wide range of carbon and nitrogen sources and with possession of four distinct terminal oxidases. The genome contains a multitude of protein secretion systems, including type I, type II, type III, type V, and type VI secretion systems, and type IV pili, suggesting a high potential to interact with host plants. H. seropedicae is able to synthesize indole acetic acid as reflected by the four IAA biosynthetic pathways present. A gene coding for ACC deaminase, which may be involved in modulating the associated plant ethylene-signaling pathway, is also present. Genes for hemagglutinins/hemolysins/adhesins were found and may play a role in plant cell surface adhesion. These features may endow H. seropedicae with the ability to establish an endophytic life-style in a large number of plant species.

Abstract:

The increasing on the levels of carotenoids in staple foods of broad human consumption is one of the strategies of food biofortification programs, mainly due to the importance of these compounds to human health on the prevention of vitamin A deficiency. Maize is a major staple food due to its high consumption in regions where problems of Vitamin A deficiency are of great relevance. Maize biofortification programs have made progress in determining the amounts of carotenoids in grain of thousands of accesses. This work aimed at studying the influence of the color of the grains in the profile of carotenoids in four different Brazilian genotypes. The selection of ears within the same genotype was based on a color scale, considering the lighter (lightest yellow) in one group and the most colorful (darkest orange) in another group. Significant interactions (p < 0.05) between the color of the grains and the genotypes for all the variables were detected in addition to genetic variability for both groups (lightest yellow and darkest orange). The colored ears of corn showed a high level of total carotenoids (TC) and fractions in RS 535 and RS 445, and the colorful ears of genotype RS 535 showed 300% more α + β carotenes (μg·g-1) in relation to lighter of this same material. The results of this study showed the influence of genotype on the grain color and content of carotenoids, indicating that breeders have the flexibility to make selection of some genotypes based on grain

Gouvêa, Maria Cristina Soares de;Jinzenji, M?nica Yumi;
Revista Brasileira de Educa??o , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-24782006000100009
Abstract: this paper analyses the discourse on the education of poor children which was present in the province of minas gerais during the first decades of the 19th century. it discusses the conceptions concerning the possibilities of educating poor children and the importance of education for the creation of a civilised nation. such children were characterised as possessing mental faculties and moral qualities different from those children from the upper classes. these differences were attibuted to by their social experience and could be corrected by school education. thus, a school project was defined for this segment of the population based on instruction restricted to reading, writing and arithmetic and above all on moral education, the baseline for turning them into civilised adults.

Revista Brasileira de Zoologia , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-81752004000100026
Abstract: cyrtophora simon, 1864 comprises 36 species that occur in the old world and australia. cyrtophora citricola (forsk?l, 1775) is widespread and has been introduced in the neotropical region, in colombia and hispaniola. here is presented the first record of this species in brazil, in the municipalities of belo horizonte and prudente de morais, state of minas gerais. the specimens studied show variations in coloration and in the abdomen's format, but the genital structure is the same as observed in specimens of c. citricola.
