Climate projections for the period 2011-2040 over West Africa and their impact over the agriculture of the region
Clemente Gallardo-Andrés,Enrique Sánchez,Margarita Ruiz-Ramos
UNISCI Discussion Papers , 2007,
Abstract: The results of 12 AOGCMs (Atmospheric-Oceanic Global Climate Models) available at WCRP CMIP3 multimodel database have been used to analyze the climatic projections under SRES-A2 emissions scenario for the period 2011-2040. There are not many studies focused on this period, but it is essential to develop strategies on short and medium range, such as the ones needed for migration issues. The results obtained indicate temperature increases around 1 degree for the West Sub-Saharan Africa region. The trend for precipitation is towards a slight increase over most of the areas. Both factors imply a slight increase in aridity over the coastal areas from Senegal to Cameroon, and a decrease over the inland areas of the region. As a consequence of these projections a decrease in agricultural yield is dominant over the most of the region.

Archivos Latinoamericanos de Nutrición , 2002,
Abstract: marine algae of baja california sur, méxico: nutrimental value. the baja california peninsula is one of the richest regions of seaweed resources in méxico. the objective of this study was to determine the chemical composition of some marine algae species of baja california sur, with an economical potential due to their abundance and distribution, and to promote their use as food for human consumption and animal feeding. the algae studied were green (ulva spp.,enteromorpha intestinalis, caulerpa sertularoides, bryopsis hypnoides), red (laurencia johnstonii, spyridia filamentosa, hypnea valentiae) and brown (sargassum herporizum, s.sinicola, padina durvillaei, hydroclathrus clathrathus, colpomenia sinuosa). the algae were dried and ground before analysis. in general, the results showed that algae had a protein level less than 11%, except l. johnstonii with 18% and low energy content. the ether extract content was lower than 1%. however, the algae were a good source of carbohydrates and inorganic matter.

Abstract: epilepsy is defined as a chronic condition produced by different etiologies, characterized by the repetition of crises due to an excessive discharge of the cerebral neurons assoclated wlth cllnlcal symptoms. it responds to a fast ion depolarization in a population of abnormal neurons. causes of epilepsy are: genetíc alteratíons, perínatal anoxía, traumatísms, tumors, congenital malformations, metabolic alterations, drug poisonings, and infections of the nervous system. epileptic selzure is the transitory occurrence of signs and abnormal symptoms caused by excessive or synchronous neurona! activity whereas, epilepsy is characterized by a permaneni predisposition to genérate seizures. during depolarization of neurona! membrane, calcium ions play an important role because they are intracellular messengers that regúlate functions llke: neurotransmltter reléase, neurosecretlon, neuronal excltatlon, neuron survlval and gene expresslon regulatlon . the influx of calcium through the plasmatlc membrane represents a way to control intracellular calcium level. the mechanlsm of the entrance of calcium to the neuron is llttle known, but understandlng the structure, functlon and regulatlon of voltage-gated calcium channels is of remarkable progress.
Complicaciones del cardioversor-desfibrilador automático implantable: Tormenta eléctrica arrítmica

Revista Cubana de Investigaciones Biom??dicas , 2011,
Abstract: the service of heart programmed electric stimulation and arrhythmias is national center of reference of patients with or without structural heart disease and malignant ventricular arrhythmias to specify exactly the diagnoses and to take the appropriate therapeutical measures, mainly the implantation of the implantable cardioverter-defibrillator. from 24 years ago these devices are implanted observing the frequent of its complications (included the electrical storm), coinciding with literature. an own series was designed whose data have been published and presented. now, a panorama of the problem is tried. the device save the life and has precise indications, requiring an appropriate first decision because otherwise the risks are greater than the benefits. this device must to be implanted in who is necessary, but neither must to be placed without a precise indication, in someone who not goes used it but yes to face with all the problems thoroughout the life since once implanted nobody will be bold enough for to remove it.

One of the most important chapters of today′s cardiology - a still pending clinical and public health problem- was analyzed in this paper, taking as a basis the experience of our Cuban National Register of resuscitated patients from an episode of sudden cardiac death occured in subjects who did not suffer from proved structural heart disease. The magnitude of this problem, the shared and specific characteristics of the various subpopulations of patients, the details of the ventricular fibrillation, a real family of arrythmias with diverse characteristics, which often causes the episode of sudden cardiac death, and the difficult risk stratification due to elusive signs were all presented. Despite the many articles on this topic in the last few years and of the advances in many fields as well, these entities cause sudden cardiac death more frequently than it was thought. The low resuscitation figures and the need of anticipating the first event were discussed since the initial attack may be catastrophic for young and apparently healthy subjects. The predominant role of electrocardiogram and of the electrical sequences seen in these patients as well as the poor benefits of scheduled electrical stimulation were underlined.
