............... Primary Lung Cryptococcosis in Patient with AIDS ABSTRACT Although the lung is the natural entry to Cryptococcus, criptococcosis manifests most commonly as meningitis. Isolated pleural effusion is rare and usually associated with parenquimal disease. A right pleural effusion was found in a 62 years old man. HIV positive, with prior cerebral toxoplasmosis and Kaposi′s sarcoma. The study revealed a serohematic exsudate with mononuclear cells predominance. Thoracic CT showed pleural effusion with adjacent consolidation. Cultural exam of the pleural fluid was positive for Cryptococcus neoformans. There was no evidence of meningeal involvement and detection of Cryptococcus antigen in corporal fluids was negative. Treatment with liposomal amphotericin was started followed by fluconazol. Subsequent cultural exams were sterile. After 10 months of treatment the imagiological control shows insignificant pleural effusion. When studying a pleural effusion in HIV patient, the possibility of primary criptococcosis infection must be considered. Key words: Criptococcosis; Pleural effusion; Cryptococcus neoformans; AIDS.
An Individual Tree Growth Model for Juvenile Cork Oak Stands in Southern Portugal
Paulo,Joana A.; Tomé,Margarida;
Silva Lusitana , 2009,
Abstract: the juvenile and adult stages in cork oak are distinct because of the periodic debarking of the stem and branches that characterizes the adult stage. this fact implies the use of diameter under bark for the adult stage while diameter over bark is the natural variable for juvenile stands in growth and yield studies. tree growth in the adult stage may also be affected by the periodic debarking. the differences between the two stages justify the development of different models for each of them. the objective of this paper is to develop an individual tree growth and yield model for juvenile cork oak stands for general application on the cork oak distribution area in southern portugal. the most important modules of this growth model were developed using data collected from a large number of trees in the juvenile stage, from several plots distributed around the south of portugal. these modules were: an individual tree diameter growth model, a height-diameter model and a model for crown diameter prediction.

Supercharacters of the Sylow p-subgroups of the finite symplectic and orthogonal groups
Carlos A. M. André,Ana Margarida Neto
Mathematics , 2008,
Abstract: We define and study supercharacters of the classical finite unipotent groups of symplectic and orthogonal types (over any finite field of odd characteristic). We show how supercharacters for groups of those types can be obtained by restricting the supercharacter theory of the finite unitriangular group, and prove that supercharacters are orthogonal and provide a partition of the set of all irreducible characters. We also describe all irreducible characters of maximum degree in terms of the root system, and show how they can be obtained as constituents of particular supercharacters.
A supercharacter theory for the Sylow p-subgroups of the finite symplectic and orthogonal groups
Carlos A. M. Andre,Ana Margarida Neto
Mathematics , 2008,
Abstract: We define the superclasses for a classical finite unipotent group $U$ of type $B_{n}(q)$, $C_{n}(q)$, or $D_{n}(q)$, and show that, together with the supercharacters defined in a previous paper, they form a supercharacter theory. In particular, we prove that the supercharacters take a constant value on each superclass, and evaluate this value. As a consequence, we obtain a factorization of any superclass as a product of elementary superclasses. In addition, we also define the space of superclass functions, and prove that it is spanned by the supercharacters. As as consequence, we (re)obtain the decomposition of the regular character as an orthogonal linear combination of supercharacters. Finally, we define the supercharacter table of $U$, and prove various orthogonality relations for supercharacters (similar to the well-known orthogonality relations for irreducible characters).
Imagens negociadas: o experimental no cinema
Andréa Frana
Ilha do Desterro , 2008,

Abstract:

Glycerol is a substance known to humankind for many years now, and among other products, in which composition it is used, are the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, food, paints and varnishes REF _Ref382993082 \r \h [1]REF _Ref382993086 \r \h [6]. The abundance of its supply leads to search for new uses, whether as a plasticizer for biodegradable polymers REF _Ref382993096 \r \h [7], its transformation into other substances like propylene and derivatives or other hydrocarbons [8] [9], the production of hydrogen for energy purposes REF _Ref382993109 \r \h [10], or even direct burning, making glycerol a fuel for boilers, for example. The aim of this work was to investigate the action of the zeolite ZSM5 on glycerol fast pyrolysis at 600°C. The tests were done with a

Health (Health) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/health.2014.616260
Abstract: The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence and associated factors of unsatisfactory self-rated health in university students. A cross-sectional study was conducted in graduate students of a Public University in the city of Rio Branco in the Western Brazilian Amazon. The overall prevalence of unsatisfactory self-rated health was 23.0%. After adjusting for gender and age, the factors associated with unsatisfactory self-rated health were as follows: sedentarism during leisure time (prevalence ratio (PR): 2.26; 95% CI: 1.56 - 3.29), consuming meals only in restaurants (PR: 1.48; 95% CI: 1.14 - 1.94), insomnia (PR: 1.86; 95% CI: 1.50 - 2.30), headaches (PR: 2.17; 95% CI: 1.52 - 3.09), and back pain (PR: 2.03; 95% CI: 1.58 - 2.60). Thus, a high prevalence of unsatisfactory self-rated health was identified in this group of university students. The findings suggest immediate implementation of programs to promote healthy behaviors and to prevent headaches, back pain and insomnia.
