The objective of this study was to evaluate the contribution of inoculation with diazotrophs, applied both individually and in combination, in commercial varieties of sugarcane. The experiment was carried out at the experimental grounds of Embrapa Agrobiologia, in Seropédica, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The experimental design was of randomised blocks, with sub-divided plots and six replications. Six varieties of sugarcane with six treatments were used: control, control with nitrogen, inoculation of the individual strains: BR 11512, BR 11724 and BR 11411, in addition to inoculation with a cocktail consisting of five strains of diazotrophs. Differences were observed between varieties and between treatments, and an interaction observed between the treatments and varieties. For all the parameters evaluated, no response was observed in the sugarcane varieties RB855536 and RB92606. In the variety RB918639, the only difference was in the accumulation of green biomass. No difference was observed between the treatments for total nitrogen accumulation. The most responsive variety to inoculation was RB867515, differing in the accumulation of fresh and

Online Brazilian Journal of Nursing , 2009,
Abstract: This is a study of quantitative nature with the aim of establishing the relationship between maternal position in the second period of labor and the condition of the newborn, infant as assessed by Apgar index. A descriptive cross-sectional study was designed, with an analysis of 8,538 live-birth deliveries occurring between 1996 and 2005 at a maternity school in southern Brazil. The analysis included data on all vaginal deliveries with the woman in a vertical (squatting) or horizontal (supine or semi-sitting) position, together with data on their unborn children and their rates of Apgar. There were 5,002 (58.6%) deliveries in the upright position, and 3,536 (41.4%) in the horizontal position. The mean Apgar rate at 1 minute was 8.11 for deliveries in the vertical position, and for the horizontal position it was 8.04 (p=0.009). For the maternal age 15 of 20 years, the mean Apgar rate in the first minute was higher in the vertical deliveries (p<0.001). When comparing the vertical and horizontal positions adopted by the mother in the second period of labor, better results were observed in the vertical position, and in adolescents this difference was more pronounced. Given the safety, effectiveness and high acceptability of this measure, it is urgent that the health services offer this choice of position to all pregnant women who have been elucidated as to the advantages/disadvantages.

Open Journal of Epidemiology (OJEpi) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/ojepi.2018.82007
Abstract: Objective: As isolates of Cryptococcus are frequently kept collection stocks in institutions, sometimes without proper characterization, we sought to determine the genotype profiles, protease and phospholipase activities “in vitro” and the susceptibility testing for azoles and amphotericin B. Methodology: 84 isolates from several regions of Brazil (40 samples from clinical origin and 44 isolates from environmental origin) were maintained at the microorganism’s bank of the Biomedical Science Institute (ICB-USP) of the São Paulo University, in São Paulo, Brazil. This isolates was submitted fungal strains determination, DNA extraction and purification, determination of genotype by URA5 gene RFLP of CGB-positive isolates, protease and phospholipase activity and susceptibility to antifungals. Results: Of six CGB positive isolates tested by RFLP-PCR, only four presented a genomic profile consistent C. gattii species (VGII), while two other were C. neoformans (VNI and VNIII), indicating the existence of canavanine-resistante C. neoformans isolates in the culture collections. The clinical isolates secreted higher levels of phospholipase and environmental isolates but no differences were observed for the protease levels. Almost all isolates were sensible to azoles and amphotericin B. Conclusion: We point out in this research the existence of C. neoformans strains resistant to canavanine and intrinsic characteristic of C. gatti. These results demonstrate the importance to perform a detailed characterization of isolates kept in culture collections.

“Shameless” Sedentarism: Individual Responsibility for Health?  [PDF]
Marcos Bagrichevsky, Doiara Silva dos Santos
Psychology (PSYCH) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2018.94048
Abstract: The text critically addresses the polarity between discourses on sedentary and healthy lifestyles, contextualized by new technological resources for searching and disseminating information about health. The argument is that contempora-neous technoscientific rationality has created an “economy of truths” that, with the perspective of leading to safe lifestyles, have been prescribing a normative set of self-discipline ideals which generates anxiety and distress. In the hegemonic production of these regimes, sedentary lifestyle presents itself as a health risk, equivalent to moral failure and an unacceptable lack of self care. We highlight that the abundance of discourses about lifestyles and risk, seen as biopolitical devices imbricated in the processes of communication in health matters, deserves attention for their ethical and political implications. The display of lifestyles associated with the consumption and the production of narratives that perversely influence our culture has taken us far away from a socially possible notion of health. Finally, the regulatory essence of such symbolic references in building knowledge systems that have been (re)defining what means to be healthy, normal, unhealthy is discussed.

Memórias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz , 1982, DOI: 10.1590/S0074-02761982000400005
Abstract: the life cycle of dendritobilharzia anatinarum was completed experimentally in the laboratory. cairina moschata domestica (domestic duck) and biomphalaria straminea served respectively as definitive and intermediate hosts. eggs passed in duck faeces hatch miracidia in 10 minutes when placed in water. eight days after the snail infection, the mother sporocyst contains daughter sporocysts ready to migrate. cercariae are present within the daughter sporocysts 23 days after infection and emerge from the snail on the 25th day. they actively penetrate the skin of the duck and after a prepatent of 39 days, sexually mature trematodes are present in the blood vessels of the bird. the adult parasite is predominantly in the renal-portal system and to a lesser degree in the lungs and mesentery. a detailed morphological description of the egg. miracidium, sporocyst and cercaria is presented.

Li es sobre a sintaxe histórica do infinitivo português
Marcos Martinho dos Santos
Caligrama : Revista de Estudos Romanicos , 2012,
Abstract: Resumo: Exponho a sintaxe histórica do infinitivo final e do infinitivo objetivo do português, partindo da sintaxe histórica do infinitivo latino. Palavras-chave: Sintaxe histórica do infinitivo português; infinitivo final; infinitivo objetivo. Abstract: I deal with the historical syntax of the infinitive of purpose and complementary infinitive in Portuguese. In order to do that, I begin with the historical syntax of the Latin infinitive. This infinitive originally is a pure noun form, or rather, an ablative or dative of an action name, so that it is used to indicate the purpose of the verbal action. It subsequently is treated as an indeclinable neuter noun, so that it completes the meaning of a verb. I illustrate my exposition by quoting from many authors in Latin and in Portuguese, mostly, from the Demanda do Santo Graal and Cam es’ Os Lusíadas. Keywords: Historical syntax of Portuguese infinitive; infinitive of purpose; complementary infinitive.
