Dal Bianco,Marcos José;
Estudios de economía , 2008, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-52862008000100003
Abstract: this paper tests the purchasing power parity theory of exchange rates dealing with argentinean data for the period 1900-2006. this is equivalent to testing if the real exchange rate is a stationary variable or if its components (the nominal exchange rate and the relative prices) are cointegrated. since most works study developed countries or developing countries but with short span data, this paper aims to fill a gap in the wide ppp literature by studding a developing country with a long-run approach. this country is particularly interesting since during 20th century "argentine economic performance tells a story of decline unparalleled in modern times" (taylor 1992). the downfall of this once developed country has probably affected the behavior of its rer and the validity of ppp to check this, we use a wide set of econometric techniques and found that the ppp theory is not verified in argentina, since its rer appears as a non-stationary variable, and there is no evidence of cointegration between the nominal exchange rate and the relative prices. in particular, the argentinean rer appears to be trend-stationary under structural breaks with a continuous real depreciation of the argentinean currency, especially in the first half of xx century, which is consistent with theories that relate the secular impoverishment of a country with the depreciation of its rer, as the balassa-samuelson effect.
Gilberto Freyre, a história ambiental e a ?rurbaniza??o?
Froehlich, José Marcos;
História, Ciências, Saúde-Manguinhos , 2000, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-59702000000300003
Abstract: this paper aims to highlight the significance of gilberto freyre?s approaches to environmental and ecological issues. a recurring concern in his work, ecological issues were first dealt with by freyre in his first and classic book, casa-grande e senzala, which was written in the thirties - a sign of freyre?s singular precocity in dealing with such issues within the scope of social sciences in brazil. gilberto freyre?s considerations on environmental and ecological issues are also analyzed and examined against considerations put forward by recent disciplinary fields in scientific investigation, such as environmental history and sociology. these fields of study have had a pivotal role in creating new avenues for an interdisciplinary scientific approach to issues involving the relationship between society and nature, something which was already envisioned by freyre?s historical-sociological appraisal. it is pointed out that freyre?s interest for a ?social ecology? has enabled him to postulate ?developmental? propositions imbued with concerns with the ecological and environmental balance, a topic on the agenda of debates on city-country relationships (?rurbanization?) and contemporary life quality.
Prurido braquiorradial tratado com talidomida
Pereira, José Marcos;
Anais Brasileiros de Dermatologia , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0365-05962005000300012
Abstract: brachioradial pruritus is a type of itching or a very intense burning sensation in the anterior distal third of arms and proximal third of forearms, corresponding to the brachioradial muscle region. the condition has been associated with solar radiation, and some authors related to orthopedic lesions in the cervical spine. the author presents two patients suffering from brachioradial pruritus who were treated with thalidomide and presented excellent results. this paper aims to suggest a new therapeutic option for this refractory disease.
Hemangioma rubi no couro cabeludo
Pereira, José Marcos;
Anais Brasileiros de Dermatologia , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0365-05962004000100010
Abstract: cherry hemangioma (ch) is an extremely frequent dermatosis with vascular origin involving more than 75% of the population over 70 years of age. normally they are multiplex spots and focus predominantly on the upper trunk and arms. clinically they are characterized by pinpoint maculae and papules with up to 5 millimeters in diameter. the most recent lesions can be a strong red color while the older ones are bluish. the etiology of ch is still unknown. from the histologic standpoint, the neoformation of the capillary tube draws attention: they are very dilated and with fenestration along the wall. the basement membranes are thickened and there is abundant collagen stroma between the veins. this work demonstrates the high frequency of ch in the scalp. in a sample of 171 patients (85 men and 86 women) the author noted that 123 (72%) had ch in the scalp. however, according to the literature, ch in the scalp has never been described.
Eflúvio telógeno após dermatite de contato no couro cabeludo
Pereira, José Marcos;
Anais Brasileiros de Dermatologia , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0365-05962006000900007
Abstract: a case of a patient with alopecia areata treated with diphencyprone, which produced contact dermatitis in the scalp, with later total regrowth is presented. after 4 months, patient presented a very intense hair loss compatible with telogen effluvium. the author calls attention for the possibility of telogen effluvium after contact dermatitis, once the production of the contact dermatitis is one of the choice treatments for alopecia areata.
Tricoses compulsivas
Pereira, José Marcos;
Anais Brasileiros de Dermatologia , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0365-05962004000500012
Abstract: due to its aesthetic importance, our hair is often a target of social manifestations, as in the case of bizarre hairstyling and hair dyes and sometimes even self-aggression. the most frequent acts of self-aggression are: trichotillomania, trichotemnomania, trichophagy, trichoteiromania, scratching-pseudoalopecia, trichocryptomania, trichorrexomania and neuropathic plica. in this article, the author discusses in detail the clinical characteristics and propedeutics of each disease, with emphasis on the psychiatric aspect of the patients.
Fazendas de café oitocentistas no Vale do Paraíba

Abstract: the architectural remnants of the old coffee plantation estates configure remarkable examples of s?o paulo state (vale do paraíba) rural architecture. the study of their components, as well as the way in which they were established and organized, was carried out by means of readings of coffee plantation literature of the time, and by the analysis of owners' deeds. on the last part of this essay, the focus is extended to the analysis of the remaining architecture of such edifications.
Eficácia do sistema de estadiamento de enneking no tratamento dos tumores ósseos benignos e les?es ósseas pseudotumorais
Drumond, José Marcos Nogueira;
Revista Brasileira de Ortopedia , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-36162010000100009
Abstract: objective: to evaluate the efficacy of the enneking staging system in determining the prognosis, planning surgical treatment and indicating adjuvant therapy for the treatment of benign bone tumors (bbt) and tumor-like bone lesions (tbl). methods: a retrospective multicentric, descriptive, nonrandomized study was carried out comprising a large series of 165 patients with a total of 168 benign bone tumors and pseudotumoral bone lesions. the patient sampling was typical, and matched the literature in all aspects. all the patients were classified according to the enneking staging system, and were reevaluated after either conservative or surgical treatment, to establish the efficacy of the system. treatment options and clinical complications were analyzed. results: the results of the treatment provided 95.2% agreement with the enneking staging system, with a 95% confidence interval of between 90.8 and 97.9%. of the 168 tumors treated, only eight (4.8%) could not be controlled by the initial treatment indicated by the enneking staging system. tumors classified as active were the most prevalent, comprising 73.2% of the lesions. tumor recurrence was significantly higher (p<0.001) for the aggressive stage. the study also suggested that wide surgical margins could be more efficient in reducing the recurrence of aggressive lesions (p>0.001). all the patients staged as latent were healed. bone cement (pmma) was an effective adjuvant when associated with marginal surgery. for latent and active lesions, the study demonstrated the efficacy of treatments with observation only, or with excision, with or without autogenous bone graft. conclusion: the results confirm that the enneking staging system was very efficient in determining prognosis, assisting surgical planning and indicating adjuvant therapy in the treatment of bbt and tbl.
Tumores ósseos benignos e les?es ósseas Pseudotumorais: tratamento atual e novas tendências
Drumond, José Marcos Nogueira;
Revista Brasileira de Ortopedia , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-36162009000500003
Abstract: the treatment of benign bone tumors (bbt) and tumor-like bone lesions (tbl) has observed the introduction of new drugs, such as intravenous bisphosphonates, which have ossified bone lesions caused by fibrous dysplasia. aneurismal bone cyst has been treated with sclerosing agents by percutaneous injection, yielding good results. adjuvants allow joint salvage, maintenance of movements and function, with low rates of recurrence. among them, the most used ones are bone cement (pmma), phenol, nitrogen-based cryotherapy, hydrogen peroxide, ethanol and radiotherapy. new methods of treatment include thermal ablation with radiofrequency and laser, mainly utilized for treating osteoid osteoma. arthroscopy allows resection of benign intra-joint lesions and assists the surgery of subchondral tumors. a great advance is the utilization of synthetic bone substitutes, which are a mixture of osteoinductive growth factors and osteoconductive ceramics, and have presented comparable results to autogenous bone grafts. there is a recent trend for closed treatments, with percutaneous injection of demineralized bone matrix (dbm) and calcium sulfate. autogenous cancellous bone graft remains as the gold standard. vascularized fibula graft, on the other hand, incorporates faster in the treatment of large destructive lesions. also, allogenic cortical support allows structural augmentation for aggressive tumors. freeze-dried allografts are used to fill contained defects and as expanders of autografts. joint endoprosthesis may be used in large destructive lesions of the distal femur, hip and shoulder.
