A situa??o brasileira do atendimento pedagógico-educacional hospitalar
Fonseca, Eneida Simes da;
Educa??o e Pesquisa , 1999, DOI: 10.1590/S1517-97021999000100009
Abstract: the brazilian legislation recognizes the right of children and youngsters to pedagogical-educational service during their stay in a hospital (cndca, 1995). this type of service is called hospital class according to mec/seesp (1994) terminology. the absence of theories or studies about this service in brazil contributes to making this form of teaching and broad health care little known both to the educational and to the health sectors. taking this fact into account, the present study carried out a nationwide survey of states that actually offer hospital classes and how they are given. there are 39 hospital classes functioning in brazil distributed among 12 states and the federal district. this type of service is usually offered through agreements celebrated between the corresponding education and health state secretariats, although there are cases of hospital classes maintained by philanthropic groups and universities. ninety-five teachers work in these services assisting more than 2000 children per month from 0 to 15 years of age. let us raise with this study the need to make proposals and expand theoretical and methodological knowledge with a view to positively reach the goal of continuing with the psychic and cognitive development of children and youngsters in hospitals. it is necessary to define policies that fulfill the pedagogical-educational needs as well as the right to education and health of this clientele that find themselves at a special moment of their physical and emotional development.
A situa o brasileira do atendimento pedagógico-educacional hospitalar
Fonseca Eneida Simes da
Educa??o e Pesquisa , 1999,
Individual factors related to chronic condition in Portuguese adolescents: Highlights from the HBSC/WHO study  [PDF]
Teresa Santos, Margarida Gaspar de Matos, Maria Celeste Simes, Helena Fonseca, Maria do Céu Machado
Health (Health) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/health.2013.511A2005
Abstract:

Background: Adolescence includes a period (10 to 19 years) of profound biopsychosocial changes, constituting potentially difficult challenges, which may become more pronounced in the presence of a chronic condition and its limitations. Responses are not homogeneous and can be quite variable, depending on various specific individual factors. Research comparing adolescents with or without chronic illness, or comparing across different conditions, has been contradictory, not confirming a direct relationship between the degree of suffering and the chronic condition. Objective: To characterize and assess the impact of 1) having a chronic condition (CC) and 2) how CC affects school participation; and its association with life satisfaction and perception of wellness, controlling for demographic factors: age, gender and family socioeconomic status (SES). Methods: 5050 Portuguese adolescents with an average age of 14 years participated in the Health Behaviour in School-aged Children/WHO (HBSC). Results: The majority of the adolescents with CC reported that their conditions did not affect school participation. Adolescents with CC who indicated that CC affected school participation felt more frequently unwell and presented lower life satisfaction. Being a boy, younger and having high family socio economic status (SES) were identified as predictors of higher life satisfaction; on the other hand, being a girl, older, having lower SES, living with CC and feeling that CC affects school participation are predictors for feeling more frequently unwell. Conclusions: These

Abstract: implementation of curricular guidelines for undergraduate dentistry courses has made it possible to restructure the curriculum in this field in brazil. however, changing the legislation is not enough to modify the training. the aims of this paper were to analyze and rethink the role of the dentistry curriculum, through focusing on its dynamics, knowledge and practices. the study involved document analysis and interviews with the players concerned with the educational scenario of the dentistry school in question. integrated clinical practice was chosen as the central object of this study, because this discipline is considered to be the backbone of the curriculum. four guiding strands of logic were revealed within the curriculum dynamics: integration, fragmentation, professionalization and market logic. these were interlinked, thereby producing a hidden curriculum marked by various contradictions to the official one.
A escolariza o e as práticas sociais de leitura e escrita: a análise dos educandos adultos da Escola Básica

Revista Portuguesa de Educa??o , 2011,
Abstract: This article brings about reflections of a research carried out in the Project for the Youth and Adults in Elementary School from Federal University of Minas Gerais (Brazil). These reflections are on how adults, in the process of basic schooling, analyze their practices of reading and writing, understand their literacy experiences in school and evaluate the potential impacts on those practices. The analysis of four semi-structured interviews with students from Youth and Adults Education suggests that they consider the diversity of their reading and writing practice and recognize, although in a relativistic way, the role of schools in the promotion of literate practices of social use. The interviewees identify the expansion and the refining of their practices in reading and writing, triggered by demands and opportunities of the school experience. They point, however, to a certain independence from their everyday practices of literacy in relation to the school practices, independence which is a result of school experience or which is, in spite of it, preserved.
Concep??es de meio ambiente dos educadores ambientais do Zoológico de Goiania: implica??es nas atividades e contribui??es para a forma??o do sujeito ecológico?

Abstract: the concept of environment has a direct relationship to the pedagogical practices that are developed and applied and the current environmental setting which is imperative, as it requires solutions that must be consistent with reality. thus, the ecological subject has its foundation based on the critical current of ee (environmental education), which regards the environment as a whole, considering the complex and conflicting interfaces that permeate the relationship between humans and nature. thereby, we propose in this study to investigate what is the concept of environment held by the environmental educators at the zoo in goiania. we intend to verify how this is translated into pedagogical activities and, finally, analyze the contributions of this informal education setting to the formation of the ecological subject. it was noticed that didactic activities at the zoo in goiania are based on a naturalist and conservationist perspective, which regards the environment as nature and resource. moreover, we found simplistic practices that, although reinforcing the need of the subject to acquire behaviors considered in agreement with environmentally friendly practices, as well as the need to rebuild a connection with nature, they do not contribute to the critical formation of the ecological subject. this way, the zoo, as an informal educational setting, does not fulfill its educative role, nor its commitment to aid the development of critical-thinking citizens, aware of his or her rights and social duties, and capable to intervene on environmental issues, in pursuit of a juster and environmentally sustainable society.

Brazilian Archives of Biology and Technology , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-89132012000100020
Abstract: the toxicity of cadmium and chromium to pseudokirchneriella subcapitata and microcystis aeruginosa was evaluated through algal growth rate during 96h exposure bioassays. free metal ion concentrations were obtained using mineql+ 4.61 and used for ic50 determination. metal accumulations by the microorganisms were determined and they were found to be dependent on the concentration of cd2+ and cr6+. ic50 for p. subcapitata were 0.60 μmol l-1 free cd2+ and 20 μmol l-1 free cr6+, while the ic50 values for m. aeruginosa were 0.01 μmol l-1 cd2+ and 11.07 μmol l-1 cr6+ . p. subcapitata accumulated higher metal concentrations (0.001 -0.05 μmol cd mg-1 dry wt. and 0.001 -0.04 μmol cr mg-1 dry wt) than the cyanobacteria (0.001 -0.01 μmol cd mg-1 dry wt and 0.001 -0.02 μmol cr mg-1 dry wt). cadmium was more toxic than chromium to both the microorganisms.
Partial vaginal expulsion of a leiomyosarcoma

Autopsy and Case Reports , 2013,
Abstract: Uterine sarcomas are an uncommon and heterogeneous group of tumors that account for 3-7% of the malignant neoplasms of the uterus and approximately 1% of all malignant tumors of the female genital system. The main clinical manifestations are abnormal uterine bleeding in pre- or postmenopausal women. Pelvic pain, abdominal distension, urinary urgency, and profuse and fetid leukorrhea are other frequent complaints. The authors present a case of a 48-year-old patient that was in amenorrhea for 2 years, who sought treatment for vaginal bleeding. On physical examination, the abdomen was distended, painful in the hypogastrium and upon examination of the external genitalia, it was observed the exteriorization of an amorphous “mass”. The patient was submitted to uterine curettage. The results of the histological examination revealed leiomyosarcoma. Staging workup showed an enlarged uterus with endometrial lesion, and non-calcified pulmonary nodules. The patient underwent a pan-hysterectomy and chemotherapy, and is under oncologic treatment. The authors call attention for the unusual form of presentation of this entity.
Metodologia de identifica??o de aglomera??es produtivas locais

Abstract: the literature on industrial and regional economics is full of cases studies of local productive agglomerations. a significant part of the empirical studies on this subject have concentrated on the analysis of existing productive agglomerations. in contrast, there are few studies that attempt (or are able) to identify the startup of these agglomerations. from the perspective of development policies, this gap is relevant, as it leads to favoring established agglomerations to the detriment of those that are in the early stages. therefore, it is necessary to develop methodologies that enable us to overcome this deficiency. this is the aim of this paper. the authors propose a methodology for the identification of potential local productive agglomerations based on secondary data. through the use of the principal component analysis technique, a concentration index is elaborated, which is an indication of the potential of an industrial sector, in a specific region, to become a local productive agglomeration.
