Acta Universitaria , 2012,
Virology is an important science because viral diseases affect direct or indirectly to human kind. There are several families of plant viruses infecting important crops. Among those, the family Geminiviridae has become an important problem since cause serious damages around the world. In Mexico, the presence of geminiviruses was reported in the late 70’s. Because their importance, the members of the Plant Virology Laboratory at Cinvestav Irapuato have been interested in generating useful information to propose strategies for geminivirus control. Here, we summarized 20 years of research in geminivirology in our laboratory. Another intention was to show how the advances in other research areas such as microbiology, physics, biochemistry, molecular biology and more recently bioinformatics could contribute to our knowledge and understanding of geminivirus.

Retos : Nuevas Perspectivas de Educación Física, Deporte y Recreación , 2011,
Abstract: The aim of this paper is to describe the reasons that have given origin to the amotivation of Monterrey adult citizens that have not done any physical activity according to gender, age and the level of studies. The sample was estimated in 1,118 subjects to obtain result validity with an error range of ±3% and a reliability level of 95.5%. The sample procedure used has been multistage with a proportional affixation, resorting to two types of stratificated random sampling by conglomerates. Results reveal that the values beliefs were the ones generating the amotivation to never have practiced any physical activity on leisure time of the subjects from 30 to 44 years old with high school finished

Abstract: Different kind of feed can result in development of new meat odors, aroma and texture. The aim of the study was to use flash profile method to determine differences; if any, in sensory traits of Creole turkey meat with different alimentation programs. Treatments were kitchen leftovers + fresh forage, commercial feed, kitchen leftovers, commercial feed + fresh forage, and broken maize + fresh forage. Cooked thighs, drumstick and breast were used. For the meat evaluation two different groups of people were recruited. In order to perform the sensory profile of breast six persons were recruited, in a second group nine persons; in both cases they did not know what kind of meat they were evaluating. Each sensory profile had three replicas, previously three training sessions and establishment of sensory attributes criteria were held. Attribute discrimination was evaluated one-way ANOVA. To obtain consensus and treatment mean position, attributes of the subjects a Generalized Procrustes Analysis was used and comparison of treatments through an ascendant hierarchy classification. Thirty five different sensory descriptive were generated. There were differences in meat sensory profile, it can be said that different treatments influenced in different ways the muscle development of Creole turkey, creating new sensory attributes.

Abstract: background: the purpose of this study is to outline the postoperative complications, lethality rates and associated risk factors (trauma mechanism, anatomic site injury, location of surgical intervention, associated injuries, transfusion need and anatomic trauma scores) in patients with cardiac wounds presenting vital signs at admission in the operation room. methods: this is a retrospective and analytic study using charts of 52 patients, who underwent thoracotomy for treatment of cardiac injuries in a trauma center in northeastern brazil between july/91 and march/97. results: the most frequent injury was caused by stab wound, in 28 patients (53.85%), followed by gunshot wounds in 24 patients (46.15%) isolate right ventricle wounds occurred in 25 cases (48.08%). the median for anatomic trauma scores were: injury severity score (iss)=26; penetrating trauma index (pti)=23; penetrating thoracic trauma index (ptti)=20; and penetrating cardiac trauma index (pcti)=15. postoperative complication rate was 36.54% and the lethality rate was 13.45%. postoperative bleeding, reoperation and use of more than three packaged red blood cells increased de relative risk to lethality. the anatomic trauma scores were not associated with the relative risk to lethality. conclusion: the majority of patients treated for cardiac injuries presented good predictors for survival, justifying our low mortality rates.

Abstract: in a retrospective study the authors analyzed the clinical records of 199 children ages one month to 16 years hospitalized, with the diagnosis of intestinal ascariasis, in the instituto nacional de pediatria of mexico from 1984 to 1999. the purpose of the study was to evaluate the use of anthelmintics drugs as a risk factor of intestinal obstruction by a. lumbricoides. two groups were made for the study: group a (n=66) of children who presented intestinal obstruction, group b (n=133) children with no complications. a comparative analysis of clinical data of both groups was made by means of chi square with yates correction and a stratified analysis by means of chi square. possible confusing elements were overcrowding, age and the use of antiparasitic drugs. the calculus of risk factors for intestinal obstruction by a. lumbricoides was done by means of contingency tables of 2 x 2 and odds ratio with an ic of 95%. the significant risk factors were included in a model of logistics regression with an impact variable consting in the presence or absence of intestinal obstruction in order to establish a multivariate model of predictive risk a level of significance of p < 0.05. twenty seven patients (40.90%) in group a (n=66) were given anthelmintics medications prior to the intestinal obstruction: mebendazol, 14 (51-85%); two, albedazol (7.40%); eigth, a non-specifed anthelmintic (29-62%). in addition, an anthelmintic medication without a specified time of ingestion: two with mebendazol and one with piperazine (11.3%). in the case of mebendazol, the drug most frequently associated with intestinal obstruction, seven patients received it on the same day of the obstruction; five patients received it between one and seven days prior to the obstruction; two received it seven days prior to the complication. in the control group, only 7% had taken the anthelmintic one to seven days before the diagnosis of uncomplicated intestinal ascariasis diagnosis was made. with the step by ste

Nacameh , 2010,
Abstract: characterization and correlation degree of the results generated with a trained panel employing the Qualitative Descriptive Analysis (QDA). Flash Profile technique (FO) was also employed but with none trained panel. Results were analyzed by Principal Components Analysis (PCA) and Generalized Procrustes Analysis (GPA). Correlation was evaluated by a multiple factorial analysis (MFA). Results of PCA and GPA were 85.95 and 83.23 for QDA and FP, respectively, demonstrating a similar classification of the treatments between both techniques. Sensory space of MFA was 0.80 by both panelist groups, indicating a correlation with the characterization technique. Both classification techniques were similar, with a strong correlation in the sensory information structure, indicating that the combination of both sensory techniques improved the product description for the better understanding of the product acceptance or reject, previous to market study.
