ABSTRACT This study aimed to investigate whether the organizational actions that offer resources for diversity (women in general, black people and people with disabilities) are perceived as fair. The theoretical framework used was based on the theory Multiprincípio Miller (1976). This theory holds that the distribution of resources can be considered fair not only based on the principle of equity / meritocracy, but also on the principles of equality which aims at a common destination for individuals and the principle of necessity which sees the distribution of resources as fair for one who has difficulties in satisfying your needs for yourself. To this end, it was conducted an exploratory study on the quantitative method. Data were obtained from a scale developed for this study. The sample consisted of 253 persons (52% women, 84% Caucasian and 94% without disabilities). Data analysis was based on the descriptive statistics and inferential. The results indicated that the actions under study are predominantly perceived as fair when based on the principle of equity, but there are differences of perception, considering the gender, race and whether or not peop
The relationship with learning of nurses and nursing students

Online Brazilian Journal of Nursing , 2007,
Abstract: Nursing has historically prioritized the use of practical activities as the way to teach and learn. As we try to understand the formation, and its impact in the professional performance, it is important to question what and how we have been teaching. The idea of relationship with knowledge, taken in its broad sense of relationship with learning, presented by Bernard Charlot allows for a different approach to the teaching-learning process and its product. Therefore, this study had as its goal the analysis of the relationship with learning established by students and nurses that attended the same undergraduate course in nursing. The results pointed to a dependence of students in the first semesters with the figure of the professor while the students from the last semesters showed more independence. On the other hand, graduated nurses signaled the practice as a fundamental factor in the learning process.

Revista de Psiquiatria Clínica , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-60832005000700008
Abstract: the treatment of bipolar depression has been an area of debate. the use of antidepressants, particularly the triciclics, has been associated with worse clinical outcomes. evidence points to a limited efficacy of traditional mood stabilizers such as lithium, valproate and carbamazepine in the treatment of bipolar depression. in cases where depression is more severe, there is evidence that antidepressants may be useful. the use of antidepressants should be in association with a mood stabilizer. new agents such as lamotrigine have been put forward as effective in the treatment of bipolar depression. recent studies using lamotrigine suggest its efficacy and safety in the treatment of bipolar depression.
Latitudinal disparity in the reproductive cycle of sharpnose shark, Rhizoprionodon lalandii (Elasmobranchii: Carcharhinidae), in Atlantic waters off South America

Zoologia (Curitiba) , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/s1984-46702012000500004
Abstract: Geographical variation in biophysical conditions may strongly influence the life history characteristics of widely distributed species, such as the Brazilian sharpnose shark, Rhizoprionodon lalandii (Müller & Henle, 1839). Here, we use original and secondary data of reproductive traits of R. lalandii to identify population differences among northern/northeastern and southern Atlantic waters of South America. In the southeast region, birth occurs between December and March, and the young become frequent along the coast between April and September. Mating occurs mainly between March and June, when females with bite marks are common. Females in early pregnancy occur between March and September. The reproductive cycle of R. lalandii in the northern/northeastern region was approximately six months ahead of the cycle described for the southeastern region. These results support the hypothesis that environmental conditions in the North-Northeast and Southeast generate differences in life history traits, resulting in at least two distinct populations along the Brazilian coast.

Abstract: introduction: mechanical ventilation in postoperative cardiac surgery can bring some respiratory complications for the patient. to minimize this risk is necessary for proper and rapid mechanical ventilator. the difficult for that is the large number of variables for adjusting the mechanical ventilator and getting all these variables. as the period of mechanical ventilation, usually not exceed 12 hours, this time must be optimized so that the patient may be in spontaneous ventilation as soon as possible. objectives: this paper proposes the use of bayesian networks to assist the professional in the making decision, speeding up the patients care. materials and methods: the development of the rb used a database composed of 137 clinical cases. the evaluation was performed by the instruments operational validity measurement, contingency tables and roc curves. results: rb presented an adequate performance for the election of the ventilatory modes and parameters. conclusion: the results applying rb were similar to those suggested by the literature, showing consistency between computational and human reasoning.
Electroconvulsive therapy in treatment-resistant mania: case reports
Soares, Marcia Britto de Macedo;Moreno, Ricardo Alberto;Moreno, Doris Hupfeld;
Revista do Hospital das Clínicas , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S0041-87812002000100006
Abstract: electroconvulsive therapy is known to be effective in the treatment of mood disorders, more specifically for depression and mania. although a large body of evidence confirms the efficacy of electroconvulsive therapy in the treatment of mania, few prospective studies have been done to assess its effectiveness in treatment-resistant manic episodes. these case reports describe the initial results of a study that is being conducted to evaluate the efficacy of electroconvulsive therapy among treatment-resistant bipolar patients. methods: three manic patients (according to dsm-iv criteria) who were considered treatment-resistant underwent a series of 12 bilateral electroconvulsive therapy sessions. before the treatment and then weekly, they were evaluated with the following rating scales: young mania rating scale, hamilton rating scale for depression, brief psychiatric rating scale, and clinical global impressions-bipolar version. results: the 3 patients showed a satisfactory response to electroconvulsive therapy, although some differences in the course of response were observed. conclusion: these case reports suggest that electroconvulsive therapy needs further evaluation for the treatment of resistant bipolar patients.
