Atmospheric and Climate Sciences (ACS) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/acs.2013.34064

This study evaluated the effects of sky conditions (measured by the clearness index, KT) on the estimation of solar radiation and its components. Solar radiation was calculated by a digital elevation model derived from the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM). The calculated radiation was parameterized and validated with measured solar radiation from two stations inside the urban perimeter of the city of Cuiabá, Brazil, during 2006 to 2008. The measured solar radiation varied seasonally, with the highest values in December-March and the lowest in June-September. Comparisons between calculated and measured values for two sites in Cuiabá demonstrate that the model is accurate for daily Rg estimates under clear sky conditions based on Root Mean Square Error, Mean Bias Error and Willmott’s index. However, under partially cloudy and cloudy sky conditions the model was not able to provide robust estimates. Spatially, the highest values of incident Rg occurred on strands with North, Northeast and Northwest orientations and were lowest on those oriented to the South, Southeast and Southwest.

Abstract: this study analyzed the relation between coffee yield and defoliation during the process of manual harvest in the agricultural harvests of 2005, 2006 and 2007. the experiment was conducted at the cafua farm, located in the municipality of ijaci, minas gerais, in an area of 6.5 ha of coffee crop (coffea arabica l.) catuaí vermelho iac-99 cultivar. an irregular grid was demarcated in the area with a distance of 25x25 and 50x50m, totaling 67 sampling points, which were evaluated coffee production (l plant-1) obtained through harvest in cloth as well as defoliation of plants, quantified by the weight of leaves (a) (kg plant-1) after manual harvest. pearson correlation analysis was used to verify the linear relationship between productivity and defoliation in different evaluated periods. the spatial dependence of the data was already analyzed through semivariogram adjustments and kriging interpolation. based on the analyses, it was found that manual harvest caused more defoliation in places with higher productivity and reduced the yield in the subsequent year, by the increase of defoliation on plants and reduction of the photosynthetically active radiation intercepted by the canopy of these plants, leading to the biannuality of the production.

Abstract: diversification of bacterial species and pathotypes is largely caused by lateral gene transfer (lgt) of diverse mobile dna elements such as plasmids, phages, transposons and genomic islands. thus, acquisition of new phenotypes by lgt is very important for bacterial evolution and relationship with hosts. this paper reports a 23 kb region containing fourteen cdss with similarity to the previous described integrative conjugal element of mycoplasma fermentans (icef). this element, named iceh, is present as one copy at distinct integration sites in the chromosome of 7448 and 232 pathogenic strains and is absent in the type strain j (non-pathogenic). notable differences in the nucleotide composition of the insertion sites were detected, and could be correlated to a lack of specificity of the iceh integrase. although present in strains of the same organism, the iceh elements are more divergent than the typical similarity between other chromosomal locus of mycoplasma hyopneunomiae, suggesting an accelerated evolution of these constins or an ongoing process of degeneration, while maintaining conservation of the tra genes. an extrachromosomal form of this element had been detected in the 7448 strain, suggesting a possible involvement in its mobilization and transference of cdss to new hosts.
