Abstract:
Introduced species in the Pantanal: implications for conservation
Alho, CJR.;Mamede, S.;Bitencourt, K.;Benites, M.;
Brazilian Journal of Biology , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S1519-69842011000200011
Abstract: land use and human occupation within the natural habitats of the pantanal have facilitated introduction of invasive species of plants and animals, including domestic species. exotic species threaten regional biodiversity because they modify ecological community structure, alter natural habitats and affect local biodiversity. an international organisation, the international union for conservation of nature (iucn), and the brazilian government, identify invasive species as the third most important threat to biodiversity, following habitat loss and direct effect on species. in addition, exotic species carry pathogens or may function as vectors or reservoirs for diseases that affect regional biota.

Journal of Cancer Therapy (JCT) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/jct.2017.84034
Abstract: The presence of metastases in the oral cavity is considered quietly rare in the literature. Considering metastasis of hepatocellular carcinoma, the occurrence occurs in approximately 1% of cases. The objective of this study was to report a case of metastasis of hepatocellular carcinoma in gingiva, in a patient with a previous diagnosis of cancer presenting a poor prognosis. Furthermore, a review of reported cases has already been performed and found only 20 reports. This case report emphasizes the importance of including metastases in soft tissue of the mouth, in the differential diagnosis of lesions with benign aspect.

From a perspective that proposes a number of criticisms of the dichotomous typology of demographic classification of living space, rural and urban, has inquired about the forms that everyday spatial mobility in relation to employment in the Valle Inferior del Río Chubut - Patagonia-Argentina, following a special situation of everyday spatial mobility as that concerning the production of cherries in the Valley.

Soils associated with rock outcrops in the Brazilian mountain ranges Mantiqueira and Espinha?o

Brazilian Journal of Botany , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-84042007000400003
Abstract: espinha?o and mantiqueira are two mountain ranges of great importance in brazil. in the uppermost parts of these areas, unique ecosystems occur, generally associated with rock outcrops, they are collectively called high altitude rocky complexes. these environments show distinct soil and biota characteristics in relation to the surrounding biome. the soils are generally shallow, coarse textured, with high al3+ and varying amounts of organic matter. entisols, inceptsols and histosols are dominant, directly associated with the rock outcrops, and forming a complex mosaic of soils. some of these soils are endemic, based on peculiar conditions of parent materials, topography and vegetation, and this pedodiversity is important for detecting unique and endangered soils. in these soils, organic matter is highly humified, with a great amount of soluble forms and conspicuous presence of charcoal. spodic horizons and dark water rivers are typically associated with quartzite and quartzite outcrops, formed by illuviation of organic compounds, being less common in granitic rocks. the very low nutrient content of these soils and other environmental limitations required the development of specific physiological and morphological plant adaptations. most high altitude environments are unstable under current climatic conditions, and anthropic interventions may be accelerating this process. detailed soil surveys are necessary for a better understanding of the role of these soils in ecological processes and for the development of adequate conservation policies.

Journal of Animal and Veterinary Advances , 2012,
Abstract: The objective of this study was to evaluate 3 different doses of clonidine as a premedicant in dogs prior to etomidate-halothane anaesthesia. Six healthy dogs were anesthetized. Each dog received intravenously (i.v.) three different preanaesthetic protocols: CL6 (clonidine, 6 g kg 1 i.v.), CL8 (clonidine, 8 g kg 1 i.v.) or CL10 (clonidine, 10 g kg 1 i.v.). Anesthesia was induced with etomidate (4 0.8 mg kg 1) and maintained with halothane. The following variables were studied: Heart Rate (HR), Systolic Arterial Pressure (SAP), Diastolic Arterial Pressure (DAP), Mean Arterial Pressure (MAP), Respiratory Rate (RR), arterial oxygen saturation and end tidal CO2. Arterial blood pH and arterial blood gas tension (PaO2, PaCO2) were measured during anaesthesia. Time to extubation, time to sternal recumbency and time to standing were also recorded. HR and RR decreased significantly during sedation in all treatments. CL6 and CL8 decreased significantly the arterial pressures after sedation but remained stable during the anaesthetic period. Respiratory variables during anaesthesia were statistically similar in all treatments. Halothane requirements were similar for CL6, CL8 and CL10. The combination of clonidine, etomidate and halothane appears to be effective for induction and maintenance of general anaesthesia in healthy dogs.

Abstract: In this work we present a new parametrization in molecular mechanics for studying iron complexes. This force field was implemented in the FORCES 2000 program, developed in our group for studying in coordination compounds of interest in bioinorganic chemistry. Mononuclear and dinuclear iron complexes were studied using this program with good success.
