Dermatitis por Toxicodendron striatum ("manzanillo")
Moreno,María Victoria;
Acta Medica Colombiana , 2008,
Abstract: the case is described and discussed of a patient with contact dermatitis due to exposure to toxicodendron striatum or rhus striata, a tree known in some parts of colombia?s andean region as "manzanillo". this tree belongs to the anacardiaceae, a family of vascular plants whose sap has a large content of active principles. the noxious agent is urushiol, a mixture of alkylated ortho-benzenodioles or alkylated catechols, which can be saturated or unsaturated. urushiol is a colorless or pale yellow oil which is found in the plant?s leaves, stem and roots. the clinical picture begins with erythema, edema and formation of vesicles and papules. on occasion, extensive bullae can develop. these lesions are not confined to the contact zone, but appear on the rest of the skin, especially on skin folds. in the united states, this dermatitis is very frequent due to contact with other plants of the toxicodendron genus, such as poison ivy, poison oak and poison sumac. the mechanism of urushiol-induced injury is eminently immunological, although this condition is often referred to as dermatitis caused by poisonous plants or dermatitis venenata, as if it were caused by irritative contact. in central and south america, dermatitis caused by t. striatum is widely known and feared by farmers and people who work in the woods. recommended treatment is washing with abundant water and soap within the first four hours after contact. all contaminated objects should also be washed. pharmacologic agents do not significantly shorten the course of the illness. lesions disappear within one or two weeks. it is highly advisable for clinicians to familiarize themselves with the mechanisms of injury and to understand the importance of education for the control of this condition.
Transformaciones de la producción simbólica en el tratamiento psicopedagógico
Rego,María Victoria;
Anuario de investigaciones , 2009,
Abstract: this article presents an analysis of psychical changes during psychopedagogical treatment in children and adolescents who suffer from learning disorders. changes seen in symbolic production (talking, drawing, writing and reading modes) allow to know about some transformations in psychical processes such as the ways of solving conflicts, the relationship between afective tramitation and representation activity and the prefered ways of relation with knowledge and social objects in order to learn and apropiate new subjects. these dimensions improve the study of symbolization processes and transformations that take place in this specifical setting, through the design of theoretical contribuitions and clinical descriptors that make able to know therapeutic results in psychopedagogical treatment.

Rego,María Victoria;
Anuario de investigaciones , 2007,
Abstract: the purpose of this article is to show the way of analysing the changes of the symbolic production in children who suffer from learning disorders and attend to the assistance program which belongs to the psychopedagogical clinic department of psychology school. two categories are put forward: psychical conflict and representative activity. both are used in a particular way of theoretical and clinical analysis for the features presented in the symbolic process of these children and in their psychical changes along one year of treatment as well. one hypothesis is that the inclusion of the conflict in the representative activity displays the symbolical obstacles and restrictions, to create new dynamic ways of representation and performance. to finish, a clinical case is shown, to amplify and deepen this presentation.

Exactitud diagnóstica de cinco referencias gestacionales para predecir el peso insuficiente al nacer
Benjumea,María Victoria;
Biomédica , 2007,
Abstract: introduction. the maternal anthropometry is a potentially valuable tool in the evaluation of pregnancy status and prediction of birth weight. objectives. diagnostic accuracy of birth weight was compared for five gestational anthropometric references. materials and methods. longitudinal study was designed for 245 pregnant colombian participants. variables consisted of birth weight, gestational age, maternal height and weight. the references were as follows: gestational weight gain of fescina (uruguayan samples), % weight/height and body mass index of rosso-mardones (chilean sample), pregestational weight of the institute of medicine (united states sample), and the body mass index of atalah and colleagues (chilean sample). the insufficient birth weight (<3,000 g) was defined as the critical threshold value. the following indices, with correspondent confidence intervals (ci 95%) were obtained: diagnostic accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values, and agreement (kappa index). results. the ability to predict the weight <3,000 g was higher in the first trimester measurement with the chilean references, and in the second trimester with the usa and the uruguayan references. the best concordance was presented between the chilean references and the least with the uruguayan. after the second trimester, the chilean reference of atalah and colleagues provided the best diagnostic accuracy, specificity and positive predictive value. conclusion. the gestational anthropometric references that provided the most heterogeneous results were the us institute of medicine and the fescina. overall, the atalah reference was the most accurate diagnostic predictor of insufficient weight at birth.
El Partido Justicialista y la asignación estratégica de recursos: Un estudio comparado del nivel subnacional en Argentina
Paniagua,María Victoria;
Revista SAAP , 2012,
Abstract: this paper presents a statistical analysis with panel data of the determining factors in the provincial funds distribution to town councils in two provinces governed by the justicialist party (pj) -buenos aires and cordoba- between 2002 and 2007. in a nutshell, regression results show that in the subnational level the pj has strategically assigned resources with the purpose of building electoral support and strengthening local party machines. nevertheless, the strategy of provincial funds assignment implemented by the pj varies according to the political and institutional context of the province. while in buenos aires the core districts were privileged, in cordoba the swing districts have been the most benefited. contrary to previous findings regarding the national level, the empirical results suggest that in the provincial level the assignment of resources does not respond to the construction of legislative support. also, these results challenge the assumption that the issuer modifies his strategy of transfer distribution according to the level of discretion that the resources represent for the recipient.
Dermatitis por Toxicodendron striatum ("manzanillo") Dermatitis caused by Toxicodendron striatum ("manzanillo")
María Victoria Moreno
Acta Medica Colombiana , 2008,
