Revista Cubana de Medicina General Integral , 1999,
Abstract: the immunotherapy in the rheumatoid arthritis includes the use of molecules produced by cells of the immune system or that take part in inflammatory reactions as well as recombinant forms of such molecules. the development of monoclonal antibodies led to the trial of anti t cell therapies without encouraging results. the treatment with anti-tumor necrosis factor alpha monoclonal antibodies is promising at present, as well as the use of recombinant citokines that condition the predominance of type ii helper-t-cells. however, in the future the use of gene therapy could be the most powerful weapon to treat rheumatoid arthritis

Abstract: it is reported that rheumatoid arthritis is a systemic autoinmune inflammatory disease whose causes are yet unelear but several factors are supposed to be important in its pathogenesis such as environmental factors and genetic factors (linked to the main histocompatibility complex and to coding genes for the synthesis of inmunoglobulin, t-cell receptors, cytokines and adhesive molecules). when these factors interact, they mediate the articular damage inherent to the disease where inmune response events also participate. additionally, other mechanisms of articular damage by oncogene priming are presented. they regulate both apoptosis and proteolytic enzime priming contributing to pannus formation

Sin embargo, en el futuro el uso de la terapia génica podría ser el arma más poderosa para el tratamiento de la artritis reumatoidea The immunotherapy in the rheumatoid arthritis includes the use of molecules produced by cells of the immune system or that take part in inflammatory reactions as well as recombinant forms of such molecules. It is reported that rheumatoid arthritis is a systemic autoinmune inflammatory disease whose causes are yet unelear but several factors are supposed to be important in its pathogenesis such as environmental factors and genetic factors (linked to the main histocompatibility complex and to coding genes for the synthesis of inmunoglobulin, T-cell receptors, cytokines and adhesive molecules). Revista Científica , 2009,
Abstract: data from 1097 lambs? birth weights (bw), 543 lambs? weaning weights (ww) and 543 preweaning daily gain weight (dgw) were analyzed in order to compare preweaning performance of three breeds pelibuey (p), dorper (d), katahdin (k) and two crosses (pxd, pxk). the variables studied were from a sheep farm at huimanguillo, tabasco, méxico and were collected from january 2001 until april 2005. the traits included lambs? birth weights, lambs? weaning weights and preweaning daily gain weight. the final model which describes bw included the fixed effects of birth year (by) (five classifications, 2001 to 2005), breed group (p, d, k, pxd and pxk) within the birth year bg(by), birth type (bt) (single and twin), interaction byxbt, lambs sex (female and male) (sx), birth season (s) (dry, rainfall and rainfall and winds). weaning age (wa) and bw were as considered as a continuous independent variable. with the exception of s, all the main effects affected (p<0.01) bw, ww and dgw. the interaction byxbt affected only bw (p<0.01). lambs pxd showed higher ww (p<0.01) than pelibuey bred in years 2001 and 2002. dgw was higher in this group than p group in year 2001. the rainfall season was the worst in ww, with 15.4 kg. single lambs and male lambs had better performance than twin lambs and female lambs. weaning age and birth weight affecting ww. regression coefficients were 0.023 ± 0.005 and 1.023 ± 0.315, respectively. in conclusión that under the present conditions, in the preweaning period, the hybrid breed group seems to be less important than others factors (for example: the weaning age, birth season and birth weight) as determinants of the weight at weaning. the dorper and katahdin breeds offer a viable alternative, considering the weight of the lambs at weaning in order to include them in systems of production in a humid, hot climate, such as pure breds or a dorper x pelibuey crossbreed.

Revista Cubana de Plantas Medicinales , 2005,
Abstract: phytochemical and antibacterial action analyses of the alcoholic extract from the wood of diphysa minitifolia rose (leguminaceae), collected in tierra caliente region, guerrero state in mexico, were carried out. the qualitative chemical study of the extract suggested the presence of reducing compounds, flavonoids, phenols and tanins. with the objective of determining the possible antibacterial effect, the extract was used in 33 bacterial strains from atcc collection and from other origins by radial one-layer diffusion in agar, with round microwells. the maximum extract concentration was 100 mg/ml. it was determined that the evaluated alcoholic extract has inhibitory action against 84.3 % of the tested bacterial strains, including gram positive and gram negative, and also bacteriostatic and bactericidal effect. for minimal inhibitory concentration values equal to 100 mg/ml, the extract showed low inhibitory activity upon 37 % of the tested strains; with concentration values from 25 to 50 mg/ml, it showed medium activity on 29.6 % of strains whereas for minimal inhibitory concentration values under 12.5 mg/ml, its action was high on 33.3 % of the strains. the extract exhibited bactericidal effect on 66.6 % of inhibited bacterial strains (54.4 % of total tested strains). further studies are required to clarify the nature of the active principles of this plant wood, which are responsible for the antibacterial properties of the evaluated extract.

Abstract: the centrofacial angiocentric lymphoma is a rare lymphoid neoplasm, with an often-difficult diagnosis due to the non-specific clinical picture. on many occasions it is necessary to perform various biopsies to reach the correct diagnosis. this lymphoma is an aggressive non-hodgkin?s (nhl) type, which is normally found in the upper respiratory tract (predominantly in the nasal cavity), and has an ominous prognosis, as the average survival rate is between 12 and 18 months (1). it is predominantly found in subjects of oriental and south american extraction, who are between the ages of 50 and 60 years and with a slight tendency towards males (2:1). this is the case study of a female ecuadorian patient who was referred to our department with a hemifacial edema, chocolate-like rhinorrhea and nasal respiratory obstruction, which had been treated with antibiotics and anti-inflammatories for a month without success. after performing a number of diagnostic tests, it was found histologically that the patient had an extranodal t-cell lymphoma of the nasal type (also known as t-cell angiocentric lymphoma).key words: centrofacial angiocentric lymphoma, t-cell nasal lymphoma, lethal midline granuloma.
