Revista Cubana de Medicina , 2009,
Abstract: helicobacter pylori (hp) is a bacterium causing colonization and infection of gastric epithelium of man. infection allows appearance of a gastritis that may to evolve to a peptic ulcer, a gastric adenocarcinoma, or a type malt lymphoma. in other cases, infection has a silent presentation. authors studied presence of hp in patients with gastritis and in others with a healthy mucosa, seen in endoscopy consultation of "hermanos ameijeiras" surgical clinical hospital by others disorders in high digestive tract pathways. fifty patients were investigated, 30 of them had an erosive gastritis, and 20 had a healthy mucosa histology confirmed. hc was detected by amplification of a fragment of ure a gen, by means of polymerase chain reaction (pcr), in 90% of cases with erosive gastritis, and in 75 % of subjects with a healthy mucosa. the reason of odds ratio (or) was of 3 with a confidence interval (ic) of 0.52-18.9. we conclude that hp infection is so high in patients with gastritis than in those with a healthy gastric mucosa.

Objectives To identify obesity, hypertension and smoking that are atherosclerotic signals in adolescents; to set the association of these variables, and to group the population according to the number of detected signals. Methods Weight, size, waist and hip circumference were estimated, and then the nutritional status was determined according to the body mass index percentiles. Systolic and diastolic blood pressure were taken and classified according to blood pressure percentiles. The adolescents gave information on smoking. The statistical analysis comprised summary statistics for frequency distribution and simple contingency table analysis. Abstract: burn disease in war or peace time is a challenge to recover life. a necropsy study of the patients who died of burn diseases registered in the database of "luis díaz soto" higher military medicine institute was conducted to determine their main morphological alterations. the following variables were studied: age, sex, hospital stay, causes of death, presence of infection and multiple organ damage. more than the three fourth parts of the cases were aged 15-54, with a discrete predominance of females. hospital stay fluctuates between 0 and 60 days with a mean value of 10.61 days. the dermohypodermic burns according to the extent of the burned body surface behaves frequently above 60 % in more than half of the studied cases. the direct causes of death manifested in a characteristic way. the lung was affected as a target organ in more than half of the dead. sepsis stood out among the death causes. in the studied deceased, infection and multiple organ damage were present in 69.9 and 67.3 %, respectively. among the most diagnosed diseases are those related to multiple organ damage. the experience gained by the group as regards preclinic studies, supports the need of carrying out an early therapeutical work to prevent the triggering of a systemic inflammatory response morphologically caused by multiple organ damage.

Abstract: in the period between 1991 and 1996, 26 352 serum samples from different risk groups and blood donors, were studied to know the seroprevalence of antibodies against the human t-lymphotropic virus type i (htlv-i), and also as a continuation of researches carried out between 1989 and 1990. the elisa davih-htlv-i system was used for the antibodies investigation, and as a certifying test, the western blot davih-blot htlv-i was used too, both from the cuban davih laboratories. the presence of anti htlv-i antibodies was confirmed in 10 persons, and in most of them the epidemiologic study could elucidate the probable way of contagion. the seropositivity index observed was of 0,037 %, and is low if compared with the seroprevalence rates reported for the caribbean area.
