An Integrated AI and RFID System for People Detection and Orientation

Journal of Systemics, Cybernetics and Informatics , 2009,
Abstract: A common problem that visitors have to face in big buildings, with several floors, corridors and departments, is their accurate location and orientation. The problem gets even worst when there are a big number of users and they have time constraints. A typical example is a medical centre where the patients have got scheduled doctor's appointments and, in some cases, severe movement difficulties. A possibility for solving this problem is to provide the building with an intelligent system for user detection and orientation. In addition, this strategy would allow to find and locate all the people inside the building and to carry out an individual search if it were necessary. This is the framework we have chosen in this article. We have developed a complete hardware and software system for people detection, location and orientation in this scenario. The hardware part of the system is based on the RFID technology and it has been successfully implemented in a fully operational prototype. The software uses artificial intelligence techniques, specifically planning and scheduling.

Abstract: Since the late nineties, Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) manages library catalogs, loans, returns and security. RFID, with a moderate investment, improve the capabilities of both, librarian and user. This paper presents a new use for RFID to determine where a book is located and the shortest route to it in libraries with multiple levels and rooms. An application named SIGUEME (Sistema Inteligente de GUiado para Entornos Multiusuario Extensos; Intelligent System to Guide for Multiuser Extensive Environments) was implemented experimentally in the Meco’s public library (Madrid). The system allows people detection and customized guiding in the building thanks to different screen placed in strategic points. We have developed a wireless communications system based on Zigbee technology that eliminates the need of wires.

Applied and Environmental Soil Science , 2013, DOI: 10.1155/2013/283468
Abstract: Around 30% of the world’s population suffers from either a lack of one or more essential micronutrients, or the overconsumption of these minerals, which causes toxicity. Selenium (Se) is a particularly important micronutrient component of the diet with a well-documented and wide-ranging role in maintaining health. However, this important micronutrient can be lacking because soil and crop management are focused on high yields to the detriment of the quality of crops required to ensure a healthy human diet. Currently around 15% of the global population has selenium deficiency. This paper focuses on Se availability in semiarid soils and how micronutrients can be effectively managed through the recycling of organic matter. Because many mineral reserves are being exploited unsustainably, we review the advantages of using organic by-products for the management of the biofortification of Se in crops. This type of practice is particularly useful in arid and semiarid environments because organic matter acts as a reservoir for Se, preventing bioaccumulation and leaching. There are also potential local economic benefits from using organic by-products, such as manures and sewage sludge. 1. Introduction At least 60% of the world’s population either lacks one or more essential mineral elements or consumes food containing high amounts of toxic mineral elements [1]. Mineral malnutrition is a widespread problem in both developing and developed countries. This situation is particularly serious for some micronutrients, such as Fe, Zn, I, Se, Ca, Mg, and Cu [2, 3]. In the specific case of Se, 15% of the world’s population is already Se deficient [2]. Gupta et al. [4] stated that, in addition to the lack of studies on the ability of plants to uptake minerals, there are insufficient analyses of soil that determine the total nutrient contents. Similarly, there are no studies of the impact of different soil management practices on the concentration and distribution of micronutrient concentrations in the different edible parts of crop plants. The micronutrient status of a plant can be measured from the leaves because leaves contain the highest amounts of micronutrients. Micronutrient deficiency is easily detected in younger leaves, whereas toxicity can be detected in later stages of development in older leaves [5]. Several factors control the lack of Se content in plants including the genetic variety, soil management, soil type, and climate. The lack of micronutrient content in plants is common in humid temperate and tropical regions due to intense soil leaching caused by the
PATRONES DE DIVERSIDAD DE EPíFITAS EN BOSQUES DE TIERRAS BAJAS Y SUBANDINOS

Abstract: tropical rainforests are the most diverse ecosystems on the planet. although many theories have been proposed to explain their richness we currently know little about their relative importance. this diversity is threatened by anthropogenic disturbances such as fragmentation and forest degradation. in this study we compared epiphytic plant diversity patterns in lowland and subandean forests. more epiphytic diversity was found in subandean (pnn cueva de los guácharos) compared to lowland forest (palmarí reserve). in addition a higher abundance of epiphytes was found in conserved forest. tree host diversity was higher in lowland forests than in subandean forests, so we can reject the possibility that differences between the patterns of epiphytic diversity are caused by regional effects of plant diversity. our results suggest that humidity seems to be the most important environmental filter explaining epiphyte diversity.

Abstract: an epidemiological descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out among 22 hiv seropositive patients admitted at the provincial sanatorium of villa clara aimed at determining the prevalence and severity of the periodontal disease, its relationship with the clinical stages of the hiv infection, the lymphocitary population, the oral hygiene and the acute infections of the studied group. most of the patients were between 20 and 29 years old; whereas males were the most affected. there was a prevalence of the periodontal disease of 100 %. the advanced destruction was the most serious lesion (13.6 %) in patients from the group ii of the disease caused by hiv and the gingivitis with pocket was the most common (86.45 %). oral hygiene was deficient in all individuals that were examined. the aphthous stomatitis was the most frequent acute infection. there were no forms of periodontal diseases associated with hiv. the figure of immunocompetent individuals reached 68.2 % (a mild immunodepression).
