The aim of this study was to investigate the presence of Helicobacter pylori and interleukin 1-β genotyping (IL-1B -31), to determine the relationship between one polymorphism in the -31 region of interleukin 1-β gene and the severity of the clinical manifestations. Gastric biopsies from 71 patients were submitted to histopathological examination and genotyped by molecular methods (PCR y PCR-RFLP). The results indicated that 97.2% of the patients have alterations in the gastric mucosa, the presence of H. pylori was demonstrated in 44 patients and TT, CT and CC genotypes were detected in 12.7%, 60.6% and 26.8%, respectively. IL-1B genotypes were not associated with the severity of gastric mucosal damage in the studied population.

Abstract: This study seeks to evaluate the effectiveness that variables like firm size and book-to-market ratio—present in the model of Fama and French—have to capture the average expected return on assets, ascompared to macroeconomic fundamentals or the market index. For this purpose, we used an artificial neural network model (ANN), which departs from a structure of non-linear estimation to capture some irregularities that characterize financial markets. We found that the Fama and French model accounts for the conditions of the Colombian stock market better, which suggests the importance of microeconomic risk factors to explain asset returns.

Introduction: the essential oil extracted from Eucalyptus species, including Eucalyptus tereticornis, offers significant potential for control of fungal pathogens and insect pests and medical importance. Objectives: to evaluate the anti-insect activity (acute, chronic and repellent) of an oil/water emulsion of Eucalyptus tereticornis essential oil in terms of their chemical composition. Methods: oil/water emulsion was prepared with essential oil previously extracted, separated and characterized, and two of its fractions (A and B). Their anti-insect activity was evaluated through bioassays on Drosophila melanogaster. Foliar phytotoxicity was evaluated on seedlings of Phaseolus vulgaris. Results: the complete oil showed considerable acute repellent and insecticide activity related to its chemical composition. The acute insecticidal activity of the fractions decreased significantly if compare with that of the whole oil , but neither significant effects on the repellent activity nor phytotoxicity on the bean leaves were observed. Conclusions: the essential oil of this eucalyptus species has considerable anti-insect properties and could be formulated as an insecticide for the control of insects of agricultural and medical signif

Abstract: Introducción. Introduction. The human interleukin-1β gen (IL-1 β) polymorphisms such as -511, -31 and +3954 have been associated with the presence of gastric cancer, due to the inhibitor effect that this protein has on acid secretion in the stomach.
