This paper reports a case of a white female patient aged 65 years who had a history of diabetes mellitus I which brought about terminal chronic renal failure that was treated with intermittent peritoneal dialysis. Three weeks after the application of this method, the patient began suffering diffuse abdominal pain, nausea and peritoneal irritation signs. Peritoneal fluid was cultured, showing eosinophilia over 30%. The diagnosis was eosinophilic peritonitis and she was treated with intraperitoneal hydrocortisone at dose of 5mg/kg of weight for 2 weeks. Clinical improvement and negative results in the peritoneal fluid study were observed

Revista Habanera de Ciencias M??dicas , 2008,
Abstract: bronchoscopy is one of the most significant advances in management of respiratory diseases, in its commencement, several laryngoscopic techniques were involved, endotracheal intubations, digestive endoscopies and other similar disciplines, the discovery of incandescent light and the insatiable human thirst for knowledge. its beginnings are from very long ago and although many have tiled the floor for its development, names such as gustav killian, chevalier jackson and shigeto ikeda marked a significance in the evolution and perfection of this procedure, which has allowed its diagnostic , prognostic and therapeutic use for neumologic development; even when we are just facing a preliminary of a promissory future offered by this centenary endoscopic technique.

Abstract: This paper aims to contribute to the prevention of natural disasters and generate a complement to other similar studies. The Popocatépetl volcano has showed significant and constant activity since 1994. The Colorada and Quimichule canyons are located within its geologic structure; due to their topographic features, ejected volcanic material and torrential rains in the past recent years, they put nearby communities at risk. This work presents a geostatistical analysis to obtain the gravity acceleration, slope by the distance-elevation relation, height-gravity and the fluid force on the canyons. The conversion of UTM to geographical coordinates was made with the use of the program Traninv applying the ITRF2008 epoch 2010.0 Datum and the 14 Zone; the local gravity was calculated with the use of International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML) and the statistical analysis was obtained with the use of the Geostatistical Environmental Assessment. The structural modeling was performed usingSurfer, and the spending and force were calculated using hydrological models. The correlation analysis concluded that Quimichule has the greatest gravity and that it would transport lahars faster. Mapping, geomorphological and statistical techniques and models were applied in accordance with the study to obtain the results presented here.

Abstract: the modifications of early postnatal somatometry were proved in offsprings of rats with intrauterine growth retardation, comparing them with a control group. the intrauterine growth retardation was induced by ligation of the uterine artery in both horns on the 16th day of gestation in sprague dawley rats. the offsprings of both groups were divided into 4 subgroups. the weight, height and cranial diameters were measured at birth, 7, 14 and 21 days. the results showed a severe reduction of weight, height and cranial diameters at birth in the fetuses of the experimental group. the weight was recovered 14 days later, but the height and cranial diameters were not. it was observed that the decrease of blood flow in the last week of gestation caused somatosometric alterations in the studied offsprings that are maintained until weaning.

Abstract: The majority of children with perinatally acquired human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) do not survive beyond childhood but this is changing due to the benefit of antiretroviral therapy for the perinatally infected cohort, so affected children are now approaching the age to be mothers. The aim of this article is to evaluate the outcomes of pregnant women with HIV acquired by vertical transmission in our centre and encourage the results obtained in “Thirty Years Later: Pregnancies in Female Perinatally Infected with Human Immunodeficiency Virus-1”, a review article published in this journal in 2012 [2]. We report 6 patients with eight pregnancies with HIV acquired by vertical transmission. They delivered a total of nine newborns between 2004 and 2013. In any case, mother-to-child transmission was reported. The management of pregnant women with HIV acquired by vertical transmission is complicated, since the patients are the most of the cases young and the compliance to the treatment may be poor. The prematurity was the more frequent complication and the cesarean section was the more frequent form of ending. In our case series, mother-to-child transmission was absent.

Abstract: it has been suggested that anhedonia is a core symptom of the disorder that precedes and possibly plays a causal role during the subsequent development of schizophrenia. several works confirmed high levels of anhedonia and lower levels of intrinsic motivation and positive affect in schizophrenic patients when compared to control subjects. on this paper we are dealing with the term gaudiebility, which is defined as a construct that includes all the set of modulators which regulate the enjoyment. the aim of this study was to evaluate if people suffering from schizophrenia show levels of gaudiebility significantly lower when compared to the average population. data were obtained from two different adult samples. one sample (n = 30) made up by schizophrenic patients of hospital del mar de barcelona (spain), the other one (n = 37) made up by the general population was obtained by the use of snowball technique. all participants agreed to reply in writing to the gaudiebility scale (padrós and fernández, 2008). the results show that people diagnosed with schizophrenia (mean = 48.27 and sd = 11.22) showed lower scores in the level of gaudiebility [f (3) = 4.303, p = .008] than control group (mean = 56.73 and sd = 9.80). the results came out as expected and were also consistent with the high levels of anhedonia, as well as with the low positive affective and intrinsic motivation levels found in different research. further studies controlling the schizophrenia subtypes and the sociodemographic variables are required. our pilot study suggests that the low gaudiebility levels found in schizophrenic patients should motivate the design of specific intervention programs to raise gaudiebility levels.
