The Next Generation of Leaders in No-Profit Sector  [PDF]
Manuela Morelli
Journal of Human Resource and Sustainability Studies (JHRSS) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/jhrss.2016.41006
Abstract: Most studies define “next-generation” leaders as individuals under the age of 40 who can be held accountable to lead no-profit organizations in the decades to come. In addition to age, it is determinant to consider the diversity of future leaders. A successful strategy model developed for use with no-profit organizations focuses the attention of managers on three key issues: social value to be created, sources of legitimacy and support for the organization, as well as operational capacity to deliver the value. These principles can be translated into a relevant and innovative formula as follows: L (leadership) = D (diversity) * SC (Social Value) where social value reflects the importance of working with the aim to improve the society we live in.

Abstract: A murine colon cancer cell line stably transfected with the luciferase gene (MC38Luc1) retains tumorigenicity in immunocompetent C57BL/6 animals. Intrahepatic inoculation of MC38Luc1 causes progressive liver infiltration that can be monitored by BLI. Compared with ultrasonography (US), BLI is more sensitive, but accurate estimation of tumor mass is impaired in advanced stages. We applied BLI to evaluate the efficacy of an immunogene therapy approach based on the liver-specific expression of the proinflammatory cytokine interleukin-12 (IL-12). Individualized quantification of light emission was able to determine the extent and duration of antitumor responses and to predict long-term disease-free survival. We show that BLI is a rapid, convenient and safe technique for the individual monitorization of tumor progression in the liver. Evaluation of experimental treatments with complex mechanisms of action such as immunotherapy is possible using this technology. The liver is the most frequent site for metastases from colorectal cancer. Approximately 10–25% of colon cancer patients present one or multiple liver metastases at the time of diagnose [1]. At least in 30% of these cases the liver is the only organ affected, apart from the tumor in the gastrointestinal tract. Moreover, recurrence after surgical removal of the primary lesion occurs mainly in the liver, with a 20–25% rate of metachronous liver metastases. Potentially curative resection of hepatic tumors is not feasible in more than 75% of the cases due to large size, elevated number and/or unfavourable localization of lesions, or poor liver function. Nonsurgical approaches including systemic chemotherapy and regional treatments are the only options for these patients. Local control is often achieved and these techniques are rapidly improving [2,3], but a significant increase in long-term survival is not guaranteed. Therefore, hepatic metastases from colon cancer are frequently observed in the clinic and they are the

Abstract: this piece puts together several strands of conceptual themes that are central to the design of electricity market architectures. it starts by delineating the economic characteristics of electricity (whose wholesale markets are inherently incomplete and imperfectly competitive). the role and scope of frequent price adaptation as a welfare maximizing tool is also discussed, as well as the complementary nature of price adaptation and capacity expansion, which can be compactly expressed with the help of variational inequalities. finally, it points out some of the real-politik constraints that emerge in the process of reforming publicly-owned electricity systems and concludes with the need of using a transaction-cost approach in the reform design process.

Se discuten medidas para fortalecer la capacidad institucional y la estructuración de los contratos, usando adecuadamente la técnica de project financing./ We discuss the impact of non-competitive behaviour and incentives to renegotiate infrastructure concession contracts upon the wellbeing, the structure of the concessionary industry and investment. This piece puts together several strands of conceptual themes that are central to the design of electricity market architectures.
Margarita Benavides
Anthropologica , 2010,
Abstract: This article analyzes the evolution of the natural resources tenure inthe Peruvian Amazon, and its relation with the indigenous protest ofthe years 2008 and 2009. The authoress argue that during the indigenousprotest aroused two opposite visions of development: the visionof the government supporting the big capital interests in one side, and the vision of the indigenous peoples defending their territoriesas a source of their material and identity survival. Nevertheless, theAwajún and Wampis suffered the disproportional repression of thegovernment in Bagua, with bloody results, the main four decreesthat were in the origin of the protest, because they threatened thejuridical security of indigenous peoples territories were derogated, and the indigenous peoples right to be consulted, established by theConvention 169 of the International Law Organization, was placed inthe center of the national debate. Nevertheless, the government hasresisted its application, because these consultations would imply aseries of socio environmental conditionings to the extractive industriesand the big scale infrastructure constructions. The authoresssustains that the conflict will continue if public policies in favor ofindigenous peoples would not be developed. For the establishmentof these public policies another vision of development is requiredfrom the State and government.
The logic of sheaves, sheaf forcing and the independence of the Continuum Hypothesis
J. Benavides
Mathematics , 2011,
Abstract: An introduction is given to the logic of sheaves of structures and to set theoretic forcing constructions based on this logic. Using these tools, it is presented an alternative proof of the independence of the Continuum Hypothesis; which simplifies and unifies the classical boolean and intuitionistic approaches, avoiding the difficulties linked to the categorical machinery of the topoi based approach.
