Análise Social , 2006,
Abstract: this article seeks to explain the success of the nationalist republican party in the final years of the first republic in the évora region on the basis of an analysis of ideology, regional politics, internal organization and the elites. it also seeks to put forward some ideas to explain its decline and demise during the military dictatorship and the estado novo.
The Political History of Twentieth-Century Portugal
Manuel Baia,Paulo Jorge Fernandes,Filipe Ribeiro de Menezes
E-Journal of Portuguese History , 2003,
Abstract: The political history of twentieth-century Portugal has recently become the focus of intense research by historians of that country. This article attempts both to summarise the political developments of the period and to provide an English-language readership with an introduction to the on-going debate. This debate is driven to a great extent by the attempt to explain the reasons for the longevity of Salazar's New State and by the attempt to place it within a broader European context. As a result, the regime immediately preceding the New State, the First Republic, has been somewhat neglected by Portuguese historians.

Equilibrium Dynamics in the Neoclassical Growth Model with Habit Formation and Elastic Labor Supply  [PDF]
Manuel A. Gómez
Theoretical Economics Letters (TEL) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/tel.2012.25087
Abstract: This note analyzes the equilibrium dynamics in the neoclassical growth model with habit-forming preferences and elastic labor supply. Habits enter into utility in a multiplicative way. The specification of the habit formation process comprises the particular cases of internal and external habits. Existence, uniqueness and saddle-path stability of the steady state are proved analytically.
Keynes’ Analytical System as an Econometric Tool: Examining Macroeconomic Trends in the U.S. from 1950s to 1980s  [PDF]
Manuel A. R. Da Fonseca
Theoretical Economics Letters (TEL) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/tel.2018.810112
Abstract: The initial goal of this paper is to develop the standard Keynes’ analytical system into a dynamic macro-econometric model, which is then applied to the analysis of macroeconomic indicators for the U.S. from 1950s to 1980s—a period marked by strong volatility of inflation, exchange rates and commodity prices. Based on the results obtained and, in particular, on the model’s structure and exogenous variables, it is possible to single out the main factors that explain the macro-trends observed in the American economy. Further, a second and more important goal is to evaluate if a simple macro-dynamic model can be a relevant tool in empirical analysis of macroeconomic developments. The results obtained indicate that, although the elements of the Keynesian system are most often used in a purely theoretical perspective, a macro-econometric model based on those elements can be successfully used in reproducing overall macroeconomic variables in a certain period—and the determinants of those macro-trends can be traced to the model’s exogenous variables.
Televis o e forma o académica dos adolescentes: um estudo de caso num bairro de luanda
A Manuel
A Novel Application of Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs) as Vehicular Technologies for Drowsy Driving Detection via Steering Wheel Movement  [PDF]
Samuel A. Lawoyin, Ding-Yu Fei, Ou Bai
Open Journal of Safety Science and Technology (OJSST) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ojsst.2014.44018
Abstract: Introduction: Vehicular technologies intended for the improvement of driver safety are especially critical today in the view of the thousands of deaths that occur annually due to drowsy driving. Current technologies include physiological methods like electroencephalography (EEG), behavioral methods including driver video monitoring, and vehicle measures which include lane and steering wheel tracking. These current technologies are impractical in their current implementations as they cannot readily be used outside of laboratory settings due to their requirements for intrusive electrodes, expensive cameras, and complex equipment. An earlier article demonstrated an effective method for wheel tracking using only an accelerometer; however the introduction of integrated gyroscopes and accelerometers has afforded further opportunities. Objective: This paper introduces a novel, low-cost, and easy to implement an approach to address this unmet problem. Method: Through the use of an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) combining a gyroscope and an accelerometer, measurements of steering wheel behavior were recorded in both simulator and real world driving while compared against a standard potentiometer. Results: The excellent agreement between potentiometer recorded angles and IMU estimated angles (R2 = 0.98, P < 0.001) suggests that the complicated installation of potentiometers in vehicle steering columns is no longer a necessary step for steering wheel monitoring. Conclusion: This paper presents an IMU based method for drowsy steering-wheel behavioral tracking which is cost-effective, easy to implement, and accurately estimates steering behaviors. The results suggest that this novel vehicle technology offers hope for improving road safety.
A Survey of Methods to Interpolate, Distribute and Extra- polate Time Series  [PDF]
Jose Manuel Pavía-Miralles
Journal of Service Science and Management (JSSM) , 2010, DOI: 10.4236/jssm.2010.34051
Abstract: This survey provides an overview with a broad coverage of the literature on methods for temporal disaggregation and benchmarking. Dozens of methods, procedures and algorithms have been proposed in the statistical and economic literature to solve the problem of transforming a low-frequency series into a high-frequency one. This paper classifies and reviews the procedures, provides interesting discussion on the history of the methodological development in this literature and permits to identify the assets and drawbacks of each method, to comprehend the current state of art on the subject and to identify the topics in need of further development. It would be useful for readers who are interested in the techniques but are not yet familiar with the literature and also for researchers who would like to keep up with the recent developments in this area. After reading the article the reader should have a good understanding of the most important approaches, their shortcomings and advantages, and be able to make an informed judgment on which methods are most suitable for his or her purpose. Interested readers, however, will not find much detail of the methods reviewed. Due to the broadness of the subjects and the large number of studies being referenced, it is provided some general assessments on the methods revised without great detailed analysis. This review article could serve as a brief introduction to the literature on temporal disaggregation.
Evaluation Indexes of Degree of Closeness between Strategy and Project Portfolio Allocation  [PDF]
Libiao Bai, Sijun Bai
American Journal of Operations Research (AJOR) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/ajor.2015.51004
Abstract: The main activities in project portfolio allocation management are selecting the right project components given a strategy. It is crucial to establish a scientific system of evaluation indexes to guarantee the closeness between strategy and project portfolio allocation optimally. With organizations growing in sizes, the functions and objectives of project components are becoming more and more different. It is necessary to set evaluation indexes of the degree of closeness from the perspectives of financial, market share, social effects, and so on according to the strategy-oriented process of project portfolio allocation. This paper proposes a project portfolio allocation process under strategic orientation and evaluation indexes of the degree of closeness between strategy and project portfolio allocation. This will help projects managers make portfolio allocation decisions.
